Chapter 274: Curse Item Collector

Chapter 274: Chapter 274: Curse Item Collector

"What do you want to do?!" The veterinarian had no strength left to struggle. The man before him was even more cunning and evil than a ghost, and he wouldn’t be surprised by anything the man might do, "Please, let me go. I can stay and help you..."

"I really want to know where these animal corpses came from?"

"It was the Monster’s doing. I rarely torture..."

"Then who is responsible for the countless wounds and suture marks on the Monster’s body?" Han Fei asked, leaving the veterinarian speechless, "I’m a very kind person who never kills the innocent without reason. Whatever is between you and it, you can settle it yourselves."

Han Fei tried stuffing the veterinarian, whose soul was on the verge of scattering, into the Ghost Pattern. After attracting the attention and anger of the Nine-life, he began training the Nine-life with the veterinarian as a bargaining chip.

The most basic rule was - as long as the Nine-life didn’t harm Han Fei, Han Fei would be willing to help it seek revenge.

The cycle of cause and effect, the veterinarian had never imagined that he would one day become a cat toy.

With the veterinarian’s life-risking help, the Nine-life finally learned to obey simple commands, but its Loyalty remained at zero.

Watching the increasingly obedient Nine-life, Han Fei picked up the veterinarian’s Residual Soul, feeling a sense of achievement, "Is this why everyone likes to keep pets? It really is quite stress-relieving."

Another ten minutes passed and seeing that the Loyalty didn’t change, Han Fei eventually sent the veterinarian into the Ghost Pattern.

After the veterinarian was completely killed by the Nine-life, its Loyalty finally turned to one.

It was also at that moment that Han Fei received another system notification.

"Player number 0000, please note! You have successfully explored ten buildings and illuminated Yimin Street on the map, earning a random exploration reward chest. Please open the map page to make a selection!"

Han Fei had received a system notification before heading to Beast Alley, and now he had finally completed this exploration task.

"Just for exploring this street, I almost lost my life."

In other games, players would have probably left Newbie Village by now, while Han Fei had been playing for so long, he was still wandering around the streets just outside his starting point, with his Level still a pitiful eleven. He had no idea whether his progress was considered fast or slow.

Opening the map, a few faint lights shone in the engulfing darkness. If you didn’t look closely, you might not even notice them.

Zooming in the map to the maximum, Han Fei finally found his location. All the buildings he had explored were connected by a line of light as thin as a fingernail.

"How big is this Deep World? I feel like I’ll never finish exploring it in my lifetime."

Just looking at that dark map could make one feel hopeless, Han Fei sighed softly and gathered his spirits again. He reached out and clicked on the exploration treasure chest on the map.

"Reward random selection in progress..."

"Congratulations player number 0000, you have obtained a Level G Auxiliary Exploration Ability — Directed Item Collection!"

"Please select a type of item, such as money, food, weapon, etc. After making a selection, during your map exploration, if that type of item is nearby, you will have a certain probability of receiving a prompt."

Han Fei had never seen such an exploratory ability, which seemed quite helpful for exploring and pushing through the map.

"Money is like scrap paper in the Deep World, food of unknown origin is no different from poison, weapons are somewhat useful, but I’m heading to the Death Building next. What I need most are not weapons or Grudges, but Curse Items."

Grudges would be randomly sent to a room in the Death Building. No matter how many Grudges Han Fei took, they would be separated, but Curse Items seemed not to be affected by this rule.

After some thought, Han Fei chose the slightly rarer type of Curse Items.

"You have successfully obtained the Level G Auxiliary Exploration Ability — Curse Item Collector Enthusiast!"

"This Ability is a Passive Ability. When there are Curse Items in the buildings around you, there is a probability of receiving a system prompt!"

"Player number 0000, please note! There is an undiscovered Curse Item in the pet store! Please proceed with the recovery in a timely manner!"

No sooner had Han Fei acquired this Passive Ability when the system provided a prompt.

"There are still Curse Items hidden in this pet store?"

With the help of his neighbors searching together, they finally turned their attention to the medium-sized Grudge imprisoned in the cage.

The blood-colored chains that bound the Grudge, it seems, were the Curse Item in the pet store.

"Open the cage, the person doesn’t matter, just don’t damage the chains."

Several of Han Fei’s neighbors opened the cage to control the medium-sized Grudge, then waited for Han Fei to make his move.

The Rebirth Saber easily sliced through the Grudge’s body. Perhaps because it had committed too many killings, the blade split it open straight from the chest.

The Residual Soul screamed hysterically as its scars and Butterfly Patterns melted together, and dark red blood flowed from the split in its chest, followed by a broken Insect Pupal falling to the ground.

"Human Pupae?"

Han Fei had not seen one of these in a long time, but he remembered clearly that many of the Outsiders controlled by the Butterfly had Insect Pupae embedded in their bodies.

It seemed that the Butterfly used them to control the Outsiders, and also used the Outsiders as a breeding ground for the Human Pupae.

Inside the cracked Human Pupae was sticky blood, and the undeveloped insect struggled on the ground, looking as if it was about to perish.

Han Fei wasn’t particularly interested in it, but the next scene caught him by surprise. The Dead Souls accumulated in the pet shop seemed to be attracted to the deformed insect, all wanting to burrow into its body, as if this would give them a new lease on life.

The prematurely emerged insect from the Human Pupae had no beautiful Butterfly Patterns, only black scars. It couldn’t withstand too many animal Residual Souls and stopped moving after just a few seconds.

"Human Pupae are specifically used by Butterflies to control Grudges," Han Fei said as he took out a Human Pupae he had obtained before from his Item Bar. "They feed on flesh and humanity; the more complex the humanity, the more beautiful the resulting Butterfly Pattern seems to be."

The small Human Pupae, having absorbed enough traces of blood, was nearly transparent, with something inside that seemed about to emerge from its cocoon.

"What would happen if it were not allowed to feed on humanity, but fed with Beastly Nature instead?"

Han Fei had no use for the Human Pupae, and after a moment’s hesitation, he dug out a Blood Pool beneath the pile of corpses in the pet shop and placed the mature Human Pupae into it.

At first, there was nothing unusual, but gradually Blood Silk appeared on the surface of the Human Pupae, and it began to absorb blood from the surrounding animals.

Han Fei tossed one stitched animal corpse after another into the Blood Pool. The animal Residual Souls clinging to them, not wanting to simply scatter their souls, began to scream and roar.

As the surface of the Human Pupae grew thinner, those Residual Souls seemed to smell a chance for life and started to rush towards the Human Pupae frantically!

The Blood Pool at the bottom of the Corpse Pit quickly filled with various animal Residual Souls, and all of the Residual Souls accumulated in the pet shop made their way toward the Human Pupae.

"Why is this happening?"

The Human Pupae that should have been fed with humanity was instead stuffed with countless pet Residual Souls by Han Fei, and the insect within the Human Pupae began to mutate.

The Human Figurine, originally only the size of a thumb, was bloated. Layers of blood smeared away the beautiful patterns until only bloodlust and frenzy remained.

After all the animal blood in the Corpse Pit had been drained, cracks finally appeared on the surface of the Human Pupae.

Han Fei and his neighbors were on high alert, staring intently into the depths of the Corpse Pit.

With a slight sound, the Human Pupae was torn open, but what crawled out was not a Butterfly but a Monster with two horns on its head and a body full of spikes, radiating viciousness.

The neighbors looked at each other in confusion and then all turned to Han Fei, who also wore a look of bewilderment. Why would a Butterfly’s Human Pupae birth such a creature?

The system could only identify items Han Fei had touched, but seeing the spikes on the Monster, he didn’t dare to touch it randomly.

"Shop Manager, I’ve worked in the convenience store for so long and have never seen this thing before." Yinglong tried to approach the Monster, but as soon as he got close, the Monster attacked Yinglong with astonishing speed.

After a standoff, Han Fei slowly realized that the Monster bore no deep malice toward him alone.

"Could this be related to the time I fed the Human Pupae with my own blood?"

Gaining courage, Han Fei tried to approach the Monster, and seeing that it didn’t resist, he gently touched the insect.

"Player number 0000! You have successfully discovered a Level G Curse Poison—Big Evil."

"Big Evil (Level G Larva): An extremely rare insect in the Deep World, covered in spikes that contain Soul Poison. It only appears during great calamities and is a sinister omen."

Han Fei didn’t pay close attention to the system’s prompt; he just looked at his finger: "Spikes containing Soul Poison?"
