Chapter 261: Chapter 261: Collective Friendliness Increased by Three
Han Fei’s professional resume had reached a point that even he could not bear to gaze at directly. He tried his best to shove that title to the bottom of all titles, but it always popped back up, as if reminding Han Fei that true gold always shines.
Looking around, the Midnight Butcher’s job transition point, the Butcher’s Home, had been razed to the ground, the Beast Alley was no longer bustling as before, and all filth and sin had been washed away by the final tide of blood.
This hidden profession became a swan song when it came to Han Fei, and his professional characteristics were still specifically targeted against various other types of butchers—the more he faced enemies steeped in slaughter, the sharper Han Fei’s Slaughter Saber became.
From this perspective, it was only a matter of time before Han Fei turned this profession into an intangible cultural heritage.
Actually, he really wanted to get along with his colleagues, but his colleagues simply wanted him dead.
"If you’re ever chased by a Butterfly to a dead end, come find me here; at least in Beast Alley, I can ensure your safety," Spider said, which not only promised to protect Han Fei but also subtly told him not to always come around when it wasn’t necessary.
After issuing a few more warnings to Han Fei, Spider removed all curses from everyone and entered the depths of Beast Alley alone, intending to rebuild the place with a completely new approach.
Actually, Han Fei had many doubts about Spider, but unfortunately, Spider’s current condition was too poor, and he needed to recover his abilities as soon as possible.
Not wishing to disturb Spider any further, Han Fei, carrying Xu Qin, led the others along the path Spider had shown them.
Although this trip to Beast Alley was extremely dangerous and nearly cost them their lives several times, the payoff was proportionate to the risks taken.
Not only did Han Fei successfully complete his most important goal of career transition, he also managed to obtain an F-level Slaughter Saber, which at this stage was already very precious to him.
Besides that, he also gained Spider’s friendship, and found a backup plan for the residents of Happiness Residential Community.
The neighbors who followed Han Fei into Beast Alley had greatly improved their strength; Cry had undergone the most significant change.
Having been forced to confront the memories he had always avoided through tempering in the Blood Pool, his Soul Body was now far more formidable than any equivalent Grudge, and his cries could easily affect all Ghosts and Monsters within seventeen meters.
Cry was like a mini Gesheng, and now Han Fei had high hopes for him.
Walking through the foul-smelling alley, Han Fei felt at home in Beast Alley ever since he acquired the title of the Midnight Butcher, not finding it unpleasant but rather comfortable, as if a predator patrolling its hunting grounds.
They did not hurry to leave but instead cooperated to hunt down those pig-faced monsters.
Compared to when they first entered Beast Alley, the roles of prey and predator had completely reversed; the horrific and fierce pig-faced monsters were now, in Han Fei’s eyes, merely experience packs that could enhance his neighbors’ strength. Their Dark Energy and Grudge Energy could help everyone recover from injuries, while their carried murderous intent and hatred could temper bodies and sabers. The remaining flesh could also feed Black Snake, allowing it to absorb and transform, growing larger again.
Adhering to the principle of "leave no one behind, give up on no one," Han Fei scoured the area thoroughly, turning all the partners he could find into nutrients.
During this period, he also collected many Slaughter Sabers, releasing the Residual Souls imprisoned within them.
While most of the Residual Souls escaped, a few voluntarily entered the Rebirth Saber, accompanying Han Fei.
Having killed many butchers, Han Fei discovered one thing: the Rebirth Saber, appearing not even to have a hilt, hardly looked like a saber at all.
But in reality, this saber’s murderous intent was extremely heavy, although its blade only gleamed at times.
"The Residual Souls of the Deep World were once living people. With this Rebirth Saber, more people will join me in the days to come."
For Han Fei, Beast Alley was a turning point—being able to grasp the saber, for the first time, gave him the initiative.
When there wasn’t a "beast" left in Beast Alley, Han Fei reluctantly left.
Following Spider’s guidance, he successfully led everyone out of the alley.
The foul smell in the air had dissipated considerably, and there were no longer any bloodstains on the walls. Han Fei looked at the stone lion at the mouth of the alley, whose head had been chopped off, feeling a twinge of regret.
"The Outsiders lured in by the Doctor moved too quickly, their inherent dark energy and the buildings they owned were a great fortune, what a pity."
Though he spoke of it as a pity, Han Fei had committed to memory the physical characteristics and abilities of each of those Outsiders, his extraordinary memory granting him an opportunity to settle scores after the fall season.
Stepping out of the alley, when Han Fei looked towards the roadside, the lights inside the dumpling restaurant had all gone out and the door was tightly shut.
"A thriving business, just abandoned like that? Did they flee overnight?"
Pushing open the restaurant door, the faint aroma of meat still lingered inside the dumpling house.
The bowls and chopsticks on the tables were not tidied up, and every big red lantern hanging on the wall now wore a mournful look.
Looking through the contents of the counter, a thick ledger recorded names that were both customers and ingredients.
Lifting the curtain to enter the kitchen, Han Fei saw ample meat sourced from Beast Alley; the dumpling fillings in the restaurant were made from that meat.
The cursed meat fillings would drive people insane, making them feel hungrier the more they ate, until their stomachs eventually burst.
"This place is simply a den of horror."
Han Fei looked around for a long time, then found a special warehouse for storing ingredients.
Pushing the door open, the room contained not only various bizarre corpses, but also many items tainted with grudge energy and induced phenomena.
The most valuable parts seemed to have been taken by the store owner, but even just the leftovers were enough to make Han Fei’s eyes gleam.
"Is running a restaurant this profitable?" Turning to Xu Qin, Han Fei whispered, "We’re close to Beast Alley here, and it’s relatively safe. How about we open our own restaurant here after we deal with Butterfly? With your culinary skills, it’s sure to be a hit."
A faint light flickered in Xu Qin’s crimson eyes as she seemed to imagine that scene for a moment, then she gently nodded her head.
The neighbors absorbed the leftover dark energy, while the rest of the miscellaneous items were all swallowed by Black Snake, leaving the restaurant completely empty.
Having consumed so much, the small Black Snake once again transformed into a large python, and its body grew even larger than before.
"There are still some secrets hidden in Beast Alley, and some Pig-faced Monsters took the chaos to escape, but they’re not a major concern. My next focus will be the Death Building where Butterfly resides."
Recalling the map left by the previous Building Chief in his mind, Happiness Residental Community was located right between Death Building and Beast Alley, and it would still be a long way to reach Death Building.
"I still have a week to prepare. If I can advance to Level 15 during this week, I should be more confident at that time."
Han Fei didn’t know what the previous Building Chief was up to at Level 15, but he planned to use his Level 15 status to challenge the most difficult and hopeless building in the area.
Since Xu Qin was in poor condition, Han Fei wasn’t in the mood to continue forming good relationships with others in surrounding buildings.
Following the path he had explored on the way here, he spent over an hour and finally returned to Happiness Residental Community.
As they entered the community, including those in Building Two, many neighbors saw Han Fei carrying Xu Qin on his back.
To rescue the residents inside the building, Han Fei led those willing to follow him, venturing into peril without fear of death, risking soul scattering to ultimately save them.
Sometimes, saying ten thousand words is not as good as actually doing one thing.
At least Han Fei was now proving through his actions that he, the Building Chief, was genuinely working for everyone’s benefit.
"Attention, player number 0000! Due to your actions gaining approval from all residents of Happiness Residental Community, the friendliness levels of all residents increased by three. Keep up the good work, and continue striving to create a harmonious Happiness Residental Community!"
