Chapter 260: Chapter 260: I Am the Last Hope of This Industry

Han Fei shifted his steps and noticed Xu Qin hadn’t followed. When he turned back, Xu Qin’s body was leaning sideways.

Having opened the Gate of Curse, Xu Qin was in an extremely weakened state where she couldn’t even manage simple movements, a consequence of the stab wound from a dinner knife.

Instinctively, he reached out to support Xu Qin, and to Han Fei’s surprise, he touched her body without employing his skill to delve into the secrets deep within her soul, feeling as if Xu Qin had completely let down her guard.

"I’ll carry you."

Unable to resist, Xu Qin possessed a unique charm. Carrying her on his back, her cold arms lay on his shoulders, embracing his neck.

Xu Qin had a fine physique, but felt incredibly light on his back, almost as if she weighed no more than her clothes.

Han Fei gazed at Xu Qin’s hands clasped in front of him, pale, slender, flawless.

Such an image of Xu Qin gave Han Fei an unreal feeling; he used his ability to touch the soul’s deepest secrets.

Han Fei meant well, wanting to understand the real Xu Qin.

But the moment he used his ability, an unimaginable pressure surged from his back!

"Boom!"

His knees smashed directly onto the ground, and if not for the cushion of blood, Han Fei’s knees would probably have shattered by now.

His spine creaked, his bones nearly dislocating as if he were not carrying a person, but an ocean formed of curses!

Hurriedly ceasing the use of his deep soul-touching skill, the pale-faced Han Fei tried to stand up.

"Need help..." Cry came over, but before he could finish, Yinglong dragged him away.

Gazing at the neighbors standing at a distance, Han Fei shook his head and laboriously picked Xu Qin up again.

Having learned the secrets of Xu Qin’s deep soul and felt her true inner pain, Han Fei gained a more direct understanding of this elder sister-like neighbor.

Wading through the blood, Han Fei approached the Spider: "Thank you for helping her in the end."

Hearing Han Fei’s gratitude, the Spider slowly turned around, looking much older: "I haven’t heard anyone say that to me in a long time, but the real person you should be thanking is me. If it weren’t for you and your friends, I might have been controlled by the Butterfly by now."

"Don’t say that; I can feel that you have other cards up your sleeve, just untapped," Han Fei stared at the two crushed hearts in Spider’s hand, feeling slightly embarrassed: "Without a heart, how will you control Beast Alley from now on? If it really doesn’t work out, why don’t you come with me?"

Spider sized up Han Fei, a tired, aged face suddenly breaking into a smile: "Were they all picked up by you like this and brought home?"

Han Fei wanted to argue, but in that moment, a hideous scar suddenly appeared on Spider’s chest, making his complexion even grimmer.

"Is there anything I can help you with?"

"It’s okay."

"Your chest is split open..."

"It’s all right." The Spider mixed the remnants of good and evil hearts and then scooped up a handful of blood, placing the shattered heart back into his chest: "Good and evil are reciprocal; there’s no need to separate them so distinctly; I was just too extreme in the past."

He walked atop the ruins of the Butcher’s house, emitting an aura as natural as though the apocalypse had already arrived and he was the last person alive in its wake.

"Found it." Spider discovered an amulet resembling a Lucky Bag amid the ruins, an item Han Fei had also seen in the Writer’s room, hanging next to a hidden compartment, "This has protected me for a long time, and now I will give it to you as a reward for saving me. Remember, only open it when you face immediate, irreversible mortal danger."

Seeing Spider so serious, Han Fei didn’t refuse. When he touched the amulet, the system’s notification sound also entered his mind.

"Attention player 0000! You have successfully discovered a Grade F one-time item—Spider’s Amulet. What this amulet hides, can probably only be known by truly opening it."

This amulet was Han Fei’s second piece of Grade F equipment, extremely precious.

"I can’t leave Beast Alley for now. Butterfly will definitely come looking for you. You must be very careful." Spider watched Han Fei with a consistent smile, his demeanor entirely different from what Han Fei had imagined.

"In truth, I’ve been cursed by the Death Building Curse. Whether it’s a week or a month, the curse will activate, so even if it doesn’t come for me, I’ll go looking for it." Han Fei had long been in a do-or-die feud with Butterfly.

"With your current ability, you’re probably not its match yet," Spider definitively said.

"Can you tell me what exactly Butterfly is? I’ve encountered it many times, but even now, I’m not sure if it’s a person or a ghost?" Han Fei asked the question he had always wanted to.

"Butterfly is a consciousness that can freely travel between dreams and reality. One thing is certain—the original Butterfly was definitely a person! Although it attaches itself to different people to carry out its plans, each person retains a shadow of itself," Spider said slowly, looking out at the shattered world. "Gloomy, full of hatred, arrogant, and mad, deep down filled with a desire for destruction, yet it likes to masquerade as a savior. It has no friends, but many followers who have been beguiled by it, among them are some very terrifying individuals."

"Then do you know Butterfly’s weakness?"

"Butterfly will do everything to make you believe in something, and once you do believe it, your doom is sealed. Therefore, when dealing with Butterfly, you must maintain absolute rationality and not be deceived by it, not even once," Spider said after a long pause, continuing, "Butterfly has no weaknesses, though I do know a method to temporarily trap it."

"Trap it?"

"Once Butterfly’s main consciousness dives into someone’s mind, all of its sub-consciences stop functioning, and those beguiled by it also briefly regain lucidity. This is the conclusion I’ve drawn from experiments with different personalities," Spider gently shook his head. "However, with Butterfly’s cunning and deceit, it will absolutely not act on its own, and you might even die from various accidents before you ever see its main consciousness."

Han Fei digested the information Spider had revealed and then began to plan his next move against his mortal enemy, Butterfly. Now, only two of them remained alive, him and Huang Ying.

"If you really intend to go to the Death Building to find Butterfly, I can give you one more clue." Spider called Ameng over, took paper and a pen from their backpack, and drew a masculine-looking man, "The reader personality I initially split from looked like this. It’s very likely to be Butterfly."

Han Fei committed the person in the drawing to memory, planning to go immediately to the police after leaving the game to report this information.

Compared to deciding the battle in the Death Building, he preferred to kill Butterfly in reality.

The two sat in the ruin for a long time, talking until the blood faded and Beast Alley returned to normal.

"Attention player 0000! You have successfully completed the Grade F hidden mission—Destiny Spider!"

"At the crossroads of destiny, you chose to help Spider regain control of Beast Alley. Spider’s friendliness increased by twenty! Free Skill Points increased by two!"

"With a completion rate exceeding ninety percent, congratulations on earning a Grade F unique exclusive title—The Last Midnight Butcher."

"The Last Midnight Butcher: you are the last Midnight Butcher to emerge from the Butcher’s house. With this title, you can freely enter and leave Beast Alley and gain partial access to Flesh Factory privileges. Flesh-type Curse Resistance and Blade-type Curse Resistance will increase by five percent over the existing basis."

"Attention player 0000! Your personal record has been updated! On your first day on the job, you successfully ruined the industry, turning a Hidden Profession into a unique exclusive Profession!"

"Warning! Each time you kill a Butcher in the future, the Workplace Killer title will gain some Experience! Upon upgrading this title, new abilities will be unlocked!"

"Having a perfect profession is an important step toward a Perfect Life, and clearly, you’ve done quite well."
