My ‘Healing’ Game -
Chapter 250: Xu Qin in the Painting
Chapter 250: Chapter 250: Xu Qin in the Painting
"I’ve always been curious, what exactly is your relationship with that terrifying woman? The first time I saw you coming out of Happiness Residential Community, you were with her."
Li Zai still remembered the scene, "She dropped you off at the street entrance of the community. The whole scene seemed like a mother taking her son to school for the first time? In a way, both of you seemed quite nervous then."
Seeing the veins popping on Han Fei’s face, Li Zai realized his words might be inappropriate and quickly corrected himself, "I just meant to say that you two seem very close. Are you really siblings?"
"We’re neighbors; she saved my life once."
"Is that all?" Li Zai looked visibly disappointed. He was still not convinced, "You ventured into such a dangerous place for her, and she went all the way deep into the alley to find us for you. She might look terrifying, but she seems to have a good heart. Most importantly, she is strong, can cook, and even looks quite dignified."
"What are you trying to say?"
"If I could meet such a wonderful woman in this despair-filled world, I would definitely try to stay with her, cling to her tightly for the rest of my life."
"Are you cursed because you ate too many pig-faced monsters?" Han Fei felt that Li Zai was just joking. The two brothers had completely different personalities. The elder brother, Li Zai, was a bit of a chatterbox, plagued with bad luck, and had once wanted to become brothers with Huang Ying; his younger brother, Li Nan, whom Han Fei had less contact with, left the impression of being taciturn—facing any enemy head-on, either the enemy dies or I die."
"I am looking out for you, this method might help both of you feel less desperate..."
"You should focus on healing your wounds first." Han Fei didn’t wait for Li Zai to finish. He suddenly looked around, "Isn’t Xu Qin in the room?"
"Would I dare say such things if she was here?" Li Zai got up from the ground, "After Xu Qin brought us back here, a kid with a backpack and stuttering speech called her away. He didn’t look like a good person."
"Ameng?" Han Fei didn’t know why Spider’s alter ego was looking for Xu Qin. He always felt that something was about to happen.
"That kid also drew a picture, and Xu Qin left after looking at it." Unlike Li Zai, Yinglong was very steady and reliable.
He took out a drawing from his clothes and handed it to Han Fei.
On the drawing paper, many small figures were illustrated, among which one red-dressed person held two dinner knives, and another in red wore a chef’s hat. The black figures around seemed to be trying to pull the woman with the chef’s hat out of the other red-dressed woman’s body.
"Xu Qin killed Spider’s chef persona, inherited the chef’s mask and curse. Is Ameng trying to say someone wants to extract the chef’s curse embodied inside Xu Qin?"
The specific meaning depicted in the drawing wasn’t important to Han Fei; all he knew was that there were people in the building who meant harm to Xu Qin,
"We can’t stay here, we have to find Ameng." Having seen Spider’s "family photo" in real life, he could tell from the photo found hidden that, aside from the reader, the doctor, and the teacher personas, the other personas were likely innocent.
His task now was to rally the other personas around him to prevent the past tragedies from recurring.
"Are you sure about going out? Xu Qin expressly told us before she left to never leave this room no matter what, especially emphasizing that you shouldn’t leave," Li Zai shifted towards the wall, then looked towards Cry and Yinglong.
"She did say that."
"Xu Qin had also gone out with Ameng before, but that time wasn’t emphasized so strongly. She must have encountered something," Han Fei walked towards the living room door without much thought.
Seeing Han Fei behave this way, Li Zai sighed and slowly stood up, "Let me clarify, I’m not trying to stop you, but I do hope you think this through. Going out might not necessarily help her."
"I understand the monsters inside the building better than any of you. That’s why I must go out," Han Fei’s hand rested on the living room door. "Don’t worry, I can keep my senses at any time and won’t let good intentions lead to bad outcomes."
He forcefully pushed open the door, and the moment the door swung open, the outside world seemed to undergo a transformation, eerily silent.
"Something’s not right!" Han Fei looked around at the walls. The bloodstains and bone fragments in the corridor had disappeared, and the complex pathways had also changed. Places that should have been walls turned into corridors, and what should have been a corridor had become a residential door.
"All the passages inside the building have changed. Even if we go out, it’s going to be hard to find her. Let’s be optimistic," Li Zai, still wounded, suggested.
"The Butcher’s House is the heart of the Spider. Only a Manager should be able to control everything freely. With the changes in the passages, there are two possibilities," Han Fei’s gaze grew fearsome. "First, the Manager might have awakened, and second, someone may have stolen part of the Manager’s ability. We need to act quickly. If we don’t stop them, allowing a malevolent Personality to become the Manager of Beast Alley, the consequences are unimaginable."
"Personality? Stealing Manager abilities?" Li Zai and Yinglong didn’t understand what Han Fei was talking about.
"The sixth auxiliary Personality mentioned before his death that collecting all the masks could turn someone into a Manager. The people inside the building must be targeting Xu Qin for the masks, which is why they started targeting her," Han Fei analyzed calmly. "Xu Qin clearly knew this, which is why she followed Ameng to leave. She knew staying here would only make us all targets."
Looking at the mottled marks on the walls, Han Fei connected all the information, "In the Butcher’s House of the Deep World, the Writer playing the Slaughterer disappeared. It seems a new ’Writer’ is needed."
"The Hidden Profession of the Midnight Butcher can only be completed in the Butcher’s House. It’s a profession unique to Beast Alley, but the Midnight Butcher isn’t the profession the Spider truly desires. What he needs is a Butcher who can butcher other butchers."
Since entering Beast Alley, Han Fei felt as if a pair of eyes had been watching him.
The tasks of changing Profession, all the choices, each slaying and redemption seemed to have been seen by those eyes.
Before Han Fei, almost no one could give the Midnight Butcher Profession a whole new meaning, nor could anyone forge a blade from the finest aspects of human nature.
For the Spider, Han Fei had done what even he himself had not achieved.
Now facing the same despair, perhaps Han Fei could create a brand new miracle.
"I’ll give it my all, if I can become the Manager of Beast Alley in the end, that would be perfect."
As Han Fei was pondering, sudden footsteps echoed in the quiet corridor. Everyone looked towards the direction of the sound, and a frail little boy, carrying a backpack, ran towards them.
His expression was horrified, his face uneasy, swinging a crudely drawn crayon picture in his hand.
In the drawing, was a woman out of control, her body pierced by thirteen slender dinner knives.
