Chapter 233 The Weight of the Soul

Chapter 233: Chapter 233 The Weight of the Soul

The little boy lying deep in the ditch was soaked through his clothes, which were full of stains and filth; his little face still unsettled, his eyes brimming with terror.

This child was very scared. He didn’t know what to do and could only hide in the ditch.

"Those monsters have already left," Han Fei found that humans are a very special life form. He himself was also very afraid, but in front of the child, he did not want to show any unease.

Perhaps it was Han Fei’s demeanor that gave the boy a trace of safety. The child clutched Han Fei’s clothes, his expression somewhat relaxed.

He didn’t cry or make a fuss, as if he had been tortured by fear until he lost the ability to cry. However, looking at the child’s quiet demeanor, Han Fei felt even more distressed.

The child had no idea what hope was. Living in such a world, even though he hadn’t done anything wrong, it seemed as if he was being punished.

Occasionally, flesh and organs would flow past him. In the filthiest, bloodiest, most foul-smelling place, Han Fei looked on tenderly, gently clearing away the filth around them.

"Are you scared?"

Upon hearing Han Fei’s voice, the boy first nodded, then shook his head.

"You are the strongest kid I’ve ever seen; we will definitely escape."

Han Fei whispered soothingly. It took a long time, but the other slowly understood what Han Fei meant and finally was willing to communicate with Han Fei.

This child was more frail than others his age. He couldn’t speak complete sentences yet, only using gestures to stutter out a few individual words.

In about ten seconds, Han Fei roughly figured out what the boy wanted to express.

After being saved by Han Fei, the child had been running deep into the alley, but he was really unlucky, having entered the blood mist only to be caught by another Pig-faced Monster.

However, the creature didn’t kill him. After breaking one of his legs, it took him to the Meat Factory.

He thought he was surely dead, but what he didn’t expect was that deep inside the factory, there were other adults who had been captured.

Those adults tried everything, and during a collective move, they used their bodies to shield him, hiding the child in the ditch.

"Are there other adults there?"

Han Fei always felt that his power was too weak compared to those monsters. So when he heard that there were other adults in the factory, he almost immediately made a decision; he wanted to try and save those people.

After ensuring there were no footsteps nearby, Han Fei dismantled the iron net and quietly crawled out.

The boy’s leg was broken, which made it inconvenient for him to move, so Han Fei told him to continue to stay in the ditch.

After restoring the iron net to its original state, Han Fei and the Black Giant Python hid behind machine after machine of unknown name, heading towards the depths of the factory.

The entire Meat Factory was divided into different areas, just like in the real world.

For the sake of filming, Han Fei had looked over every location several times, memorizing the position of each machine. His serious and professional attitude was now a great help to him.

The closer he got to the depths of the factory, the thicker the blood mist became. Amidst the rumbling noise of machinery, there were screams and moans. At a glance, it was truly a mortal purgatory.

Always ready to let the Black Giant Python enter the Ghost Pattern, after passing a wall completely covered in bloodstains, Han Fei saw a scene he would never be able to forget in his lifetime.

Deep in the Meat Factory, there was a bottomless Blood Pool.

On the upper left side of that Blood Pool, thick Blood Silk connected one Pig-faced Mask to another; and on the upper right side, rusty black hooks hung the Souls of living people.

The Pig-faced Masks, symbols of beasts, and the Souls representing living people, hung on both sides of the Blood Pool, like a giant black scale.

"What is this?"

Those Pig-faced Masks bore various expressions: treacherous, sneering, angry, malevolent. Each one seemed to stare at the living next to them, as if wanting to devour them in one bite.

The people pierced by the hooks next to them were wounded, weakly struggling without hope. But they still maintained the shape of humans, their faces though in pain, their eyes still holding onto something; whether it be goodness, longing, kinship, or the dignity of being human.

Staring at the black scale, Han Fei was contemplating how to rescue those people when footsteps approached from behind.

He quickly hid behind one of the machines and held his breath.

Cries and pleas for mercy rose in the Meat Factory as a tall, scarred Pig-faced Monster, dragging two men, came to the side of the Blood Pool.

The Pig-faced Mask on its face displayed an excited grin, the more the prey cried and pleaded, the happier it became.

Roaring, the Monster threw the two men, who looked almost identical, next to the Blood Pool.

The two men seemed to be twin brothers, only their characters were completely different.

The younger brother kept crying and begging for mercy, clutching his broken arm, covering the knife wound on his chest, and lying on the ground.

The elder brother had far more severe injuries than the younger one, his face was twisted in pain, his forehead bulging with veins, but he didn’t say a word, only occasionally glancing at the Monster, as if he was looking for a chance to counterattack.

Raising the Slaughter Saber in its hand, the Pig-faced Monster seemed to enjoy the feeling of controlling life and death, it let the younger brother cry and beg for mercy until a glimmer of hope ignited, thinking this might save his life, then the Monster fiercely kicked him, breaking his ribs, and threw him into the Blood Pool.

As soon as the younger brother’s Soul touched the bloody water, he let out a piercing scream, his skin melted by the blood, his body slowly sinking.

All struggles were in vain, and after the younger brother was completely engulfed by the blood, the Blood Mist in the room thickened, followed by the appearance of a Pig-faced Mask where the younger brother had just vanished.

The features of the Pig-faced Mask bore some resemblance to the younger brother, and it wore an expression of selfishness and discontent.

"Are Pig-faced Masks made from humans?" Han Fei, hiding in the shadows, ended up witnessing all this, and could not calm his heart for a long time.

Originally, he thought that all creatures in Beast Alley were beasts, but now he realized, that all the beasts in this alley were human.

In other words, while some retained the shape of humans, others were indeed beasts.

This alley was simply stripping away the beautiful exterior to gruesomely reveal reality.

The younger brother’s mask was lifted by strands of Blood Silk, hanging on the left side of the black scale.

The Pig-faced Monster laughed ferociously and then turned to the elder brother, wielding the Slaughter Saber and forcing the elder brother to the edge of the Blood Pool.

As it was about to kick the elder brother into the Blood Pool, the severely wounded elder brother suddenly dodged to one side, then grabbed the Monster’s leg, attempting to pull the Pig-faced Monster into the Blood Pool as well!

The elder brother never gave up from the start to the end, but unfortunately, he was too weak compared to the Pig-faced Monster; they were not even in the same league.

With a broken body tracing an arc, the elder brother too fell into the Blood Pool.

The blood burned his skin, poured into each of his wounds, but no matter how the blood washed over him, it could not change the appearance of the elder brother’s Soul.

While he appeared very similar to the younger brother on the outside, the resilience of his Soul was utterly different.

The elder brother endured the pain, undeterred by the surging blood, he repeatedly tried to climb to the edge of the pool, and time after time he was kicked back into the Blood Pool by the Pig-faced Monster.

Clenching his teeth, the elder brother swam with all his might in the Blood Pool, finally reaching the central pillar.

He wanted to climb up the pillar and destroy the Pig-faced Masks on the left side of the scale!

Battered and injured, the elder brother climbed little by little upward.

The Pig-faced Monster watched him with interest, and when the elder brother was about to touch those Pig-faced Masks, a large iron hook pierced his shoulder, dragging him up to the right side of the Blood Pool.

Blood dripped from his body, and although the elder brother was covered in wounds, he still maintained his human form.

His face etched with fearlessness, he grasped the iron hook and struggled, but he couldn’t break free.

Han Fei, watching from a distance, saw this scene. Those souls who entered the Blood Pool and still kept their human form all carried a certain Character that is peculiar to humans.

It was that perseverance and Character that allowed them to maintain their human shape, to keep their human sanity, even under the torment of the blood, they did not become controlled beasts.
