Chapter 222: Chapter 222 Meat! Meat! Meat! (Third update, asking for monthly passes)

The knife scraped against the wall, and the chains clanged loudly. Before the pig-faced monster could get close, Han Fei had already run several meters away.

The shock the monster brought to Han Fei couldn’t be expressed in words. He had never encountered such an enemy in the scariest murderer games on the market.

It was too real, that suffocating oppression, that pungent smell of blood and stink, the sudden appearance of the monster simply left one without the thought to resist.

"Meat! Meat! Meat!"

Muttering syllables resembling the word "meat," Han Fei now didn’t even know whether that thing was a living person turned into a beast, or a beast wearing human skin.

Having run from Happiness Residential Community to Beast Alley and fought with the barber after dark energy entered his body, Han Fei was extremely exhausted, but no matter how tired he was, he dared not stop.

"There might be more than one monster in Beast Alley. Before I attract more of them, I need to find a place to hide."

Exhaustion made Han Fei’s steps heavier and heavier, but his brain remained clear: "The only good news now is that I can exit the game at any time. This is a lifesaving trump card."

Being able to exit the game freely, at least Han Fei was confident he could survive the night.

Unable to widen the distance from the monster behind and vastly outclassed in brute strength, Han Fei could only consider other angles to find a way out.

"The task doesn’t specify a time or method of completion. Do I only succeed if I manage to live and escape from Beast Alley? Or does this survival have some other meaning? Is it trying to make me understand life and death? Existence and disappearance?"

The book "Beast Alley," written by Spider, came to mind. Han Fei had read several of Spider’s books to experience the roles and roughly knew the contents.

"Spider’s view of the world is different from ordinary people, it’s almost completely detached from reality. Where every person’s deepest desires and thoughts are revealed, and when the desires become strong enough, they’re no longer people but monsters wearing human skin."

"Every time they encounter such monsters, bad things happen, so Spider chose to isolate. He trapped all personalities inside the Butcher’s house."

"If I think about it this way, there should be at least one place in Beast Alley without monsters, which is the Butcher’s house where Spider is. Maybe I can even meet the real Spider there!"

To evade monster pursuit, Han Fei could either leave Beast Alley or search for the Butcher’s house—these were the only strategies he could think of now.

"Bang!"

The whooshing wind carrying the stench came from behind, and Han Fei, distracted by his thoughts, didn’t look back as his body subconsciously dodged to the side.

The Bone Chopper in the pig-faced man’s hand grazed past his left shoulder and slammed into the wall, leaving a deep gash in the bloody, mossy wall plaster. Han Fei dared not imagine what would happen if the knife hit him.

The footsteps were still several meters away when the pig-faced man had just thrown the knife at Han Fei.

The heavy Bone Chopper fell on the wall and landed in front of Han Fei. Seeing this, he immediately wanted to pick up the knife, put it into his Item Bar, or take it with him—at any rate, he couldn’t leave it for the opponent.

But just as his hand touched the hilt, a scream suddenly exploded in his brain!

Then, like a tide, the screams kept surging, leaving Han Fei no chance to catch his breath.

"Player number 0000, please note! You have discovered a G-level Curse Item—a knife!"

"Knife (G-level Curse Item): Beast Alley hides all kinds of knives, and each one bears curses and grudges!"

"Player number 0000, please note! Every Midnight Butcher has their own knife, maybe you can find one that belongs to you here!"

The system’s cold warning tone brought back a trace of sanity to Han Fei. The Item Bar would only accept Curse Items recognized as his own. If he couldn’t put the knife in the Item Bar to take it away, just holding it in his hand would only slow him down and subject him to the curse within.

Han Fei understood instantly. The opponent had dared to throw the knife because he knew Han Fei couldn’t use his weapon!

"Looking so much like a beast, yet his brain is still so sharp."

After failing to take the knife, the distance between Han Fei and the monster had been narrowed even more.

"I can’t log off yet! If I leave the game now, I’ll still appear in the alley next time and continue to be chased. I must take this chance to create as safe an environment as possible for myself."

With teeth biting into blood, Han Fei ran for his life, but his speed was getting slower and slower. And this was after he had added a few points to his Physical Strength, otherwise, he would have been caught when he tried to take the knife.

"Meat! Meat! Meat!"

The pig-faced monster too was driven mad by the scent of its prey, the eyes beneath the mask bloodshot, and it wildly swung the Bone Chopper as if ready to throw it again at any moment.

"Why do such monsters exist!"

Running for his life through the complex and confusing alleys, Han Fei had long lost track of the direction. He could not remember how many intersections he had passed nor could he determine his location.

All he knew was that the stench in the alley was getting stronger, the corpses on the ground more numerous, and it was easy to trip if he wasn’t careful.

"I can’t run anymore..."

His lungs burning with pain, Han Fei was struggling to breathe, feeling as if his body was about to fall apart.

"I must find a place to log off."

Han Fei fixed his gaze on a corner ahead of him as he opened the Attribute Panel, ready to run around the corner and log off immediately.

But before he reached the corner, he saw a shocking scene: in the corner of the small alley, amid the pile of garbage, was a five or six-year-old child hiding under corpses!

The child also saw Han Fei, his bright, large eyes filled with terror.

"There are children in Beast Alley too?"

In this place, it seemed as if the roles of humans and beasts had been switched. The child in the heap of trash was like a stray cat’s kitten, hiding beneath its mother’s corpse, too terrified to move, afraid and cowering before everything in the outside world.

In such a perilous place, having lost the protection of his mother, his death was certain.

Han Fei dared not show any abnormal behavior, fearing that the monster behind him would discover the child in the trash heap, so he continued to sprint forward as before.

But fate seemed to play a joke on him, for as he sped up, the footsteps pursuing him from behind began to fade!

Han Fei turned his head to look, and saw the horrific pig-faced monster slowly stop its steps. It was holding the Bone Chopper, looking towards the corner trash heap in the alley.

The corpse covering the trash heap trembled slightly, the child hidden underneath his mother was trembling all over due to overwhelming fear.

A large palm grabbed the corpse’s arm, and the pig-faced monster flung the child’s mother’s body to the side, then its bloodshot eyes fixed on the child beneath the corpse.

Drool slipped from the corner of its mouth, the cracked mask failing to hide its hideously ugly face.

"Meat! Meat! Meat!"

Hearing the noise behind him, Han Fei also stopped in his tracks, torn with incredible inner conflict.

The pig-faced monster was lured by the child, presenting a rare chance to escape, but if he left, the child hiding in the trash heap was bound to die a grisly death.

His fingers turned white as he gripped them tight. Han Fei was no match for the pig-faced monster, and he was not even sure if the child could be a trap set by someone else. Even if it wasn’t a trap, the child was likely nothing more than a Wandering Soul or remnant grudge.

Surviving in the Deep World, Han Fei had grown accustomed to considering the worst possible scenarios. After all, this was the most desperate, darkest corner of Deep World, a place devoid of any light.

His blood-stained fingers gripped the Bone Chopper, the foul-smelling drool sliding down the atrocious pig-face as the monster, abandoning the troublesome Han Fei, was now consumed by hunger, its mind focused solely on the child.

Crouched in the trash heap, the child trembled, his pallid face distorted with terror as he curled further into the garbage, his small hands clenching tightly onto his mother’s corpse.

There was no escaping now, nowhere left to hide. The end seemed foreordained and a cruel, bloody scene was about to unfold.

The Bone Chopper was raised high, and just as it was about to come down, urgent footsteps echoed in the alley!

Han Fei, who had already fled, now charged fearlessly towards the pig-faced man!

"Over here!"

Grasping the Black Giant Python, the fierce Ghost Face kuangxiaoed, and Han Fei full of Dark Energy crashed hard into the monster!

The child clutching his mother’s corpse saw Han Fei, his face still marked with terror.

His arm was seized by the pig-faced monster. Bones misaligned, a blood-covered Han Fei glared at the child: "Run!"

Crawling out of the trash heap, the child scrambled away down the other end of the alley.

By now, Han Fei’s arm was completely dislocated, the immense pain assaulting his nerves.

The pig-faced monster, already dominated by hunger, bit into Han Fei’s shoulder.

Blood flowed freely. Han Fei knew he couldn’t dodge; he let his shoulder be bitten, hearing the sound of teeth colliding with bone.

The pain was nearly driving Han Fei mad, but with bloodshot eyes, he refused to quit the game, his gaze fixed on the fleeing child as he strove to buy the child enough time.

Blood soaked his outerwear; Han Fei, with his only remaining arm, struck at the monster’s neck, then reached out to stab at the monster’s eyeball.

Under the most unfavorable circumstances, Han Fei blinded one of the monster’s eyes. The enraged creature brutally slammed Han Fei against the nearby wall.

His bones nearly shattered, Han Fei rolled upon hitting the ground, narrowly avoiding the monster’s blade.

His vision grew blurrier, blood seeping into his eyes, but Han Fei still did not retreat.

Clutching his numb arm, he stood in the middle of the alley.

The two were not even in the same league in terms of physical strength; one could see from their builds that this was a completely one-sided, doomed fight.

The pig-faced man’s mask was also wet with blood as it silently stared at Han Fei, seemingly puzzled as to why the man who had just desperately fled now stubbornly stood in its way.

The monster couldn’t understand that question, its hunger-maddened brain told it to immediately devour the person before it.

"Meat! Meat!"

The pig-faced monster roared as it charged at Han Fei, and Han Fei met it head-on once again!

The impact from just before had hurt his shin. He knew he couldn’t run anymore.

Knocked down time and again, yet each time he stood back up.

Han Fei himself lost count, his arm broken, a shoulder bitten to the bone, his consciousness growing dim.

As the monster bit him for the last time, Han Fei strained to open his blood-filled eyes. On the other side of the alley, the child was no longer visible.

"I must be crazy to have made this choice."

Coughing up a mouthful of blood, Han Fei let the Black Giant Python discreetly hide away before he quit the game in his last moment of consciousness fading away.
