Chapter 184: Principal’s Office
Chapter 184: Chapter 184: Principal’s Office
The female teacher appearing in the corridor looked to be nearing fifty, dressed in light gray and slightly hunched.
Han Fei realized it was too late to hide; the other party made no sound while walking and silently reached his side.
"Cough cough..."
Covering her chest, the teacher coughed violently as she passed by Han Fei.
As she opened her mouth, Han Fei noticed something was amiss.
This aged female teacher’s lips and eyelids were stitched with fine gold thread, while her ears were stuffed with dark, blood-stained clots.
She was aware of Han Fei’s presence but did nothing to him, just kept coughing, as if considering Han Fei a bad omen and silently moved aside.
"Li Jingmei?"
This woman, who appeared to be almost fifty, was Li Xun’s sister and the most senior teacher at Yimin Private Academy.
"She neither harmed nor helped me, acting as if she saw nothing."
Information about Li Jingmei surfaced in his mind; the teacher was recruited from a public school by the principal for a high price, and she was already close to retirement.
"Eyes and mouth sewn shut with gold thread, did she take Ma Manjiang’s money and get silenced?"
Everything within the Manager’s task was formed from Jin Sheng’s memories; a child’s impression of the world is different from an adult’s—bizarre and eerie, yet chillingly real.
Li Jingmei must know part of the truth but chose neither to assist Ma Manjiang nor to have the courage to save Jin Sheng. She, like the silent majority in this school, kept to herself until the black fire burnt her own body.
The female teacher, stooped, passed by Han Fei.
After she was gone, Han Fei finally reached the fourth floor of the administrative building.
The temperature in the hallway plummeted; in Jin Sheng’s memory, this place seemed to be very ominous.
"Is there nobody here?"
Compared to the noisy teaching building, the administrative building was extremely quiet, amplifying any sound made within.
Using the information in his memory, Han Fei found the office for the junior high teachers.
Turning the doorknob, the door was locked. Han Fei tried knocking softly; he didn’t use much force, but the sound echoed far down the hall.
Almost at the same time as he knocked, boisterous footsteps came from the staircase, as though a behemoth beast was galloping on all fours wildly towards this place.
"Ma Manjiang? Was it Li Jingmei who ratted me out?"
There was no time to hesitate; Han Fei ran toward the end of the corridor, planning to leave via the staircase on the other side of the office building.
When he reached the end of the hallway, he suddenly heard footsteps from the opposite staircase. The person deliberately muffled their steps, but Han Fei, being cautious, still detected them.
"Are there people in both stairways?"
Han Fei once again experienced Ma Manjiang’s cunning and malevolence. Knowing Han Fei’s location, he didn’t act rashly but instead directed other monsters to come, intending to block Han Fei’s retreat.
"The real Ma Manjiang shouldn’t be this clever; it’s the Butterfly controlling him!"
The footsteps drew nearer, and Han Fei was about to be trapped on the fourth floor.
He stepped backward, inadvertently brushing against the door of the principal’s office.
The room at the end of the hall wasn’t locked, and faint voices could be heard from inside.
Without hesitation, Han Fei pushed the door and entered the principal’s office.
A stench of decay permeated the air. As Han Fei looked inside, his eyelids twitched slightly.
Behind the principal’s desk sat an old man, grotesquely deformed with morbid obesity, his body wedged in the chair. His putrid fat spread across the floor and covered the desk, creating a ghastly and horrifying scene.
"Is this the principal? Why is the principal like this in Jin Sheng’s memories?"
He seemed unable to move freely; just opening his eyes to look around seemed to drain all his energy.
In front of this immobile overweight elderly man stood a plainly dressed young female teacher.
A blood-stained necklace hung around her neck, but strangely enough, despite being smeared with blood, it emitted a sweet scent.
Enveloped by the fragrance released from the necklace, the slightly inexperienced face of the female teacher was tinged with a hint of sweetness.
"I’ve found it!"
This female teacher, standing in front of the principal’s desk, was Jin Sheng’s homeroom teacher!
"Teacher!"
Han Fei ran straight over. The female teacher, who was reporting her work to the principal, paused for a moment. Turning her head towards Han Fei, she asked, "Student, do you need something?"
Her gentle voice sounded in Han Fei’s ears, marking the first time since taking on the Manager’s task that someone had spoken to him.
In the despairing campus enveloped by grey fog, after being despised and hunted by countless people, finally, there was someone willing to listen to his voice.
The sound of footsteps outside was drawing near, and Han Fei knew he didn’t have much time.
Since the monster principal was also in the room, it wasn’t opportune to speak plainly. Only when he reached the female teacher’s side did he whisper in her ear, "Ma Manjiang has deceived you; that beast in human skin has even laid hands on his own students! All of his actions are just a facade! If you don’t believe me, you can check the surveillance in the security room."
Han Fei told the female teacher where the surveillance footage was hidden.
"Student, this kind of joke isn’t funny at all." As the female teacher began to doubt Ma Manjiang, the blood-stained necklace around her neck would drip with something similar to syrup, emanating a rich fragrance, "Teacher Ma is the most popular teacher among the students and the one most worth my learning from. He was once my school senior and also my role model."
The blood-soiled necklace around the female teacher’s neck seemed to be a gift from Ma Manjiang, a token of commitment representing his once sweet nothings and solemn vows.
It was precisely because of this object’s presence that every time the female teacher tried to think independently, she would be influenced by that sweet scent.
"Teacher, the fragrance on your necklace is refined from Corpse Oil, you’ve been deceived by Ma Manjiang’s lies!"
Han Fei knew he didn’t have much time. He reached for the necklace, but his fingers just couldn’t penetrate the invisible fragrance.
At this point, the female teacher still believed in Ma Manjiang. Han Fei painstakingly reflected on the actions the female teacher had taken in reality; it was only after Old Li’s death that she started investigating.
Which meant that it was after seeing blood and death that her stance began to change, finally believing Jin Sheng.
Without any hesitation, Han Fei immediately took out a shard of a teacup and sliced open his hand.
His bloodied hand successfully pierced through the fragrance, and Han Fei grabbed the necklace and yanked it fiercely off the female teacher’s neck!
Instantly, the sweet aroma dissipated, and the female teacher saw the darkened bloodstains on the necklace.
"Remember my words!"
Han Fei stuffed the necklace into his own pocket to prevent it from falling back into Ma Manjiang’s hands.
By this time, the footsteps in the corridor had also approached.
The door to the principal’s office was forcefully pushed open, and Ma Manjiang, with his righteous and benevolent face masking a monster underneath, appeared at the doorway.
After losing the necklace, the female teacher’s gaze towards Ma Manjiang carried a trace of fear.
In fact, she had long felt that Ma Manjiang wasn’t as perfect as he seemed, but she had been so constantly charmed by sweet talk that she had never doubted him.
"Cough cough..."
The sound of coughing arose, and Li Jingmei appeared at the doorway, with several additional stitches in the golden thread sewing her eyes shut.
"So it was you who told Ma Manjiang."
In this school, aside from those who were victims, not a single other person could be trusted.
Clenching the teacup shard in his hand, Han Fei had finally made it here; he wanted to struggle a bit more.
Stepping backward, Han Fei’s peripheral vision caught sight of a chair beside the desk.
As Ma Manjiang entered the room, Han Fei whirled around to grab the chair and smashed the principal’s office window with force.
Dropping the chair, Han Fei clambered onto the windowsill and looked intently at the external air conditioning unit on the third floor. After taking a deep breath, he decisively jumped down!
