Chapter 175 Old Li is a Good Person
Chapter 175: Chapter 175 Old Li is a Good Person
"Not at all, I feel perfectly normal!" Old Li was somewhat puzzled.
"You haven’t felt any discomfort?" Han Fei was also shocked; he looked at Old Li, who was practically a walking Ghost Mountain.
"Nope, but you look a bit pale. Are you overworking?" Old Li, covered in filth and followed by a grudge, actually started expressing concern for Han Fei.
"As long as you’re not feeling unwell, that’s fine." Han Fei tried to regulate his breathing. As a professional actor, tonight was a tremendous test of his acting skills.
He had to ignore the stench emanating from Old Li, and the ghosts and grudges clinging to him; he had to be a "normal person" just like Old Li.
"You still haven’t explained why you are here? And what exactly happened in the school?" Old Li was very responsible; he didn’t fully trust Han Fei just because of his teacher’s work permit.
Han Fei had wanted Old Li to read Shu Mengting’s diary, which contained information related to Old Li among the relics of the deceased.
Based on his speculation, the reward item from the previous hidden task might likely aid the next mission; he felt that the diary could awaken Old Li’s memory.
A good idea, but as soon as Han Fei took Shu Mengting’s diary out of the item bar, the ghosts on Old Li began to go crazy.
The ghosts on Old Li seemed unwilling to let him recover his memory. If Han Fei forced the diary out, it could backfire.
"A delinquent has broken into the school. He used to be a student here." Han Fei avoided mentioning ghosts and the like; he even returned the diary to the item bar, and after he did so, the filth quieted down.
"What’s he doing in the school at this late hour? Stealing? Or looking to cause some damage?" Old Li sat on the single bed in the security room as usual, right next to Han Fei, with the grudge energy emanating from the ghosts nearly enveloping Han Fei’s head.
An overwhelmed Han Fei politely moved back a bit: "The kid’s name is Zhang Guanxing, he’s a hard-luck case too. His father often drinks and beats him when he’s drunk."
"Zhang Guanxing?" Old Li vaguely felt the name was familiar.
"Did you see him in the school?"
"No, I patrol the school every night and you’re the first person I’ve seen." Old Li scratched his head, allowing his hand to pass through the Ghost Face perched on his head.
"Aside from me, you haven’t seen anyone in the school?" Han Fei moved back again, finding it strange. It seemed Old Li’s world was completely different from what he saw. He was like an extremely unusual type of Ghost and Monster: "When do you usually go out on patrol?"
"I’m getting on in years, and I don’t have a place to stay, so the school lets me live in the security room to work as the night security guard. I guess I go out on patrol three times every night." Old Li’s voice was very sincere.
"Three times every night?" Han Fei was internally shocked; patrolling this haunted place three times every night, and he was still alive thus far was remarkable: "Can your body handle it?"
Looking at the old man covered in filth and the persistent grudge, Han Fei asked with trepidation.
"Three times is no big deal; the principal used to be a fellow villager, so he took special care of me. If they trust me, I definitely can’t let them down." Old Li obviously misunderstood Han Fei: "I think I remember Zhang Guanxing, let’s go, I’ll help you look for him."
Old Li’s situation was complicated; he wasn’t just missing key memories, he seemed to have awakened some "special" abilities.
The ghosts covering his entire body might be a manifestation of this ability.
His current state was akin to "Ghost Covering Eyes," where everything he saw was shrouded by countless ghosts and monsters.
However, unlike the normal "Ghost Covering Eyes," the ghosts obscuring Old Li’s vision didn’t want to harm him, instead, they just wanted him to go on living a simple life.
Since Old Li was a kind person in the past, following him Han Fei felt it could be to his own benefit.
"I appreciate the trouble."
The surveillance footage was the simplest hidden mission Han Fei had ever completed, and it was all thanks to Old Li.
Looking at the security guard before him, Han Fei felt like his luck was finally turning.
Ever since he entered Yimin Private Academy, his luck had been really bad. After logging into the game today and being separated from Zhang Guanxing and the shadowy figure, he felt like he was being targeted by the system, which hardly seemed fair considering his initial Luck Value of nine.
He got up and pushed open the door of the security room, not wanting to stay there a moment longer.
As he left the security room, Han Fei casually checked the mission panel.
"Player number 0000 has successfully completed G-level hidden mission—Surveillance Footage."
"Received base mission reward: +1 Skill Point, +10 friendliness with Li Jingye."
"As the mission completion did not exceed 50%, no additional bonus rewards were given."
"Having successfully challenged four school Kaidan, player has reached four-sevenths completion of the F-level hidden mission Jin Sheng’s Academy Kaidan."
The F-level mission Han Fei had been most looking forward to was more than halfway done. Next, he planned to take Old Li straight to the fourth floor of the teaching building to find Jin Sheng.
The monster that resembled Ma Manjiang was also on campus, and Han Fei had to meet Jin Sheng before the other found him, to fully understand what was really happening at the school.
"Old Li, are you scared when you patrol the campus alone at night?"
"Of course, I’m a little scared," Old Li said, trudging along with his load of "stuff" alongside Han Fei in the corridor, "but I’m not superstitious."
"What a coincidence, neither am I," Han Fei replied, casually glancing behind the old man, where the two-meter-tall woman was still tiptoeing behind Old Li.
Her disfigured face was right behind Old Li; a twist of his head and he would see her.
All the ghosts and monsters were deceiving Old Li. Han Fei wondered if he accidentally gave himself away, would those ghosts and monsters go out of their way to make him disappear?
Old Li was a "ghost" who couldn’t see "ghosts," and in Old Li’s world, Han Fei had become the only real person.
With Old Li, the "Ghost Nest," providing protection, Han Fei was in pain but enjoying it.
Enduring the stench that permeated to his very marrow, he made his way smoothly to the fourth floor of the teaching building.
The first to third floors were regular classrooms, while the fourth floor was used for laboratories and hobby clubs.
"Do you think the student you mentioned would hide here?"
Old Li leaned on the window to peer into the classroom, and the ghost faces on his body also pressed uniformly against the glass.
Seeing this scene, Han Fei couldn’t help but laugh and cry. He guessed that if Zhang Guanxing and the others were really hiding there, they’d probably be too scared to make a sound after seeing Old Li.
"What exactly is this security guard’s special ability?"
Han Fei had never seen a fierce ghost like Old Li. He shook his head softly, deciding not to dwell on it any longer, and headed straight for the classroom at the far end of the fourth floor.
