Chapter 174: Chapter 174: Don’t You Feel a Bit Heavy?
The woman passed through the surveillance footage on the fourth floor of the office building in a flash, apparently leaving her original position to move toward somewhere.
The faint cold light from the computer screen illuminated Han Fei, giving his face a pale look.
"That woman first appeared on the fourth floor of the office building, and the surveillance footage captured from the video tape is also from the fourth floor."
"Why is she lingering there? Was she a teacher at the school? Or is she trying to find a teacher on the fourth floor?"
Countless doubts sprouted in his mind as Han Fei stared intently at the screen.
The black-and-white surveillance footage seemed to represent another world, capturing the horror within the midnight campus.
After about fifteen seconds, the woman appeared again in the live surveillance video.
This time she had reached the third floor of the office building!
Head hung low and drenched in blood, she moved through the surveillance as if wandering unconsciously through the building.
"The woman had a lot of blood on her, but there were no obvious wounds; however, her hair was heavily matted with blood scabs, suggesting a fatal wound to the head."
"Her attire was quite mature; she must have been a teacher at Yimin Private Academy," Han Fei thought hard about the disfigured face, a terrifying image that others would rather forget, yet he repeatedly recalled, "Her face was almost completely covered with blood, features twisted and scarred, making it impossible to discern her identity from her appearance. It was certain that she had suffered something terribly horrifying before her death."
As he watched that "death" video, Han Fei tried to gather as much information as possible.
"The stair railing in the school is about 1.2 meters high, and by comparing it to the railing, her height should be around two meters..."
While Han Fei pondered, the woman had already passed through the corridor and entered the teaching building.
The surveillance camera captured the shadow of the woman moving forward. As she passed by the camera, her head tilted slightly, and between gaps in her black hair, a pair of blood-red eyeballs were hidden.
"She is watching me!"
Seated in the narrow security room, a chill surged into Han Fei’s brain.
The woman was following the cameras and finding her way here!
Though he couldn’t see the figure directly, the surveillance allowed him to feel that the entity was getting closer and closer.
Being unable to see it only added to the panic inside him.
"She has entered the teaching building. She should be here soon."
The chilling sensation emitted by the landlord’s ring didn’t lessen, and it seemed like there was another entity lurking outside the security room.
"Leaving the security room would mean immediate mission failure, and I might have to face two unknown entities at once. It’s better to stay here and complete the hidden mission first."
Dancing on a knife’s edge, Han Fei knew he had no escape and decided to stay and take a chance.
Taking a deep breath, Han Fei once again distanced himself from the computer screen and quietly fixated on the first-floor surveillance footage of the teaching building.
Time seemed to slow down, each second was stretched, making it the most excruciating moment for Han Fei.
Forcing himself to watch the surveillance video, at the twenty-fifth minute, the woman appeared on the first floor of the teaching building!
She walked out of the corridor, head hung low, moving toward the end of the corridor where the security room was located.
The blood-stained hair fell behind her, and she left behind black-red shoe prints where she walked. The window glass didn’t reflect her figure but only left some blood stains.
Han Fei’s gaze was completely drawn to the surveillance footage, knowing that the woman was now only about a dozen meters away from him.
Without looking away, when the figure of the woman completely vanished from the last camera, the door of the security room was suddenly knocked on!
With no time to react, the sudden sound made all of Han Fei’s muscles tense.
He dared not make a sound, yet his eyes remained fixed on the video tape.
The mission was almost complete!
A strange smell began to permeate the air, a peculiar stench as if a refrigerator filled with fresh meat had suddenly stopped cooling, and then a month later, its door was opened.
The entire room was filled with that indescribable odor, making one feel tight in the chest and somewhat sick to their stomach.
"Where is it coming from?"
Cold sweat slipped down unnoticed as Han Fei leaned on his extraordinary willpower to keep himself going. He didn’t get distracted, his eyes fixed solely on the surveillance footage that was still playing.
The stench had become even more pungent, and the knocking had already stopped, but something worse happened.
Outside the door, the sound of keys clinking rang out, followed by Han Fei hearing the bolt spring snap inside the lock. The locked door of the security room was opened just like that!
The old door hinge emitted a chilling noise, like an elderly man with a severe illness crying out in pain.
The stench poured into the room, the coolness from the landlord’s ring nearly freezing Han Fei’s fingers.
He clenched his teeth, hid his hands behind his back, quietly opened the Item Bar, and prepared to take out the Blood-colored Paperman at any moment.
"Who are you? How did you get into the security room? And you even locked the door!"
An old man’s voice came from the doorway; the fact that the person did not act immediately was the best news for Han Fei.
His mind started to operate at full speed, piecing together the known information in a fraction of a second.
The person outside had the keys to the security room and was likely the school security guard.
The way he spoke carried a timeworn tone, probably around sixty years old. The only school security guard fitting this age profile was the first victim in the Kaidan case at the school—Old Li.
This guard with the surname Li had helped Shu Mengting before and had also appeared in Shu Mengting’s diary.
No matter what he had become now, he was at least a good person while he lived.
From just one sentence, Han Fei had deduced quite a bit, even while carrying out a hidden task and facing a life-or-death crisis.
"I’m talking to you here! I don’t seem to have seen you around the school before!"
As the security guard entered the room, the stench became unbearably pungent, almost suffocating Han Fei, but his eyes remained fixed on the tape.
"I’m a new teacher at the school, here’s my work ID."
Without taking his eyes off, Han Fei didn’t take out the Blood-colored Paperman from the Item Bar but instead threw his teacher’s work ID onto the table.
A pale arm reached over, and the man picked up the work ID to inspect it for a while, "You really are a teacher. How did you end up here? Was there some kind of problem?"
Staring at the video, Han Fei’s Acting had reached a level where he could completely immerse himself in the role without deliberately pretending, and he naturally asked, "Do you remember the name Shu Mengting?"
"I don’t know. I’m hearing it for the first time."
"You don’t remember?" Han Fei had intended to extract Shu Mengting’s secrets and enhance her friendliness, but he didn’t expect the security guard to not even know her name.
"What are you really here for? Are you actually a school teacher?" The security guard’s tone filled with suspicion, and as he slowly approached, the putrid stench directly invaded Han Fei’s body, and the temperature inside the security room dropped to freezing.
"Some bad things have been happening at the school recently, I’m just here protecting my students." Han Fei entered into his role as a teacher. He was multitasking, responding to the security guard while keeping his eyes on the tape and his mind aware of the task panel at all times.
The task countdown had begun, and the ghost didn’t appear in the surveillance footage at the last moment.
"Could it be that the difficulty of this task is to confront the fear within one’s heart? Is the ghost actually hidden within? Am I scaring myself?"
Han Fei had already received the task completion prompt; compared to other G-level hidden tasks, this one didn’t seem too difficult.
"Hey! Don’t stop talking halfway! What bad things have happened at this school?" The security guard’s voice came again. He moved his steps and walked next to Han Fei.
The task was completed, and Han Fei shifted his gaze, subconsciously looking toward the security guard.
Just one glance made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.
The security guard in the security room was indeed Old Li, whom Han Fei had seen in the photos when researching Yimin Private Academy.
Old Li himself looked no different from reality, but the problem was that his body was covered in various filthy things!
Behind him followed a woman with blood all over her body and a disfigured face!
The woman was standing on tiptoe right behind him, yet Old Li was completely unaware.
Even though Han Fei had experienced many things, his face still turned pale at this moment, and he moved his body backward, trying to distance himself from Old Li.
"Why don’t you speak? What bad things have happened at this school?" Old Li looked puzzled, standing facing Han Fei.
"It’s hard to say, it’s not anything too serious..." Han Fei opened his mouth, his back against the wall, and finally asked very cautiously, "Do you feel like you’ve been a bit heavy lately?"
