Chapter 909: Chapter 881: Fortunately, He is a Friend

"Essence is the spirit of man, Qi is the divine aspect of man. Without breaking the spirit, the Qi remains unbroken... where the spirit lies, Yuan Qi sweeps through all obstacles..."

Li Chen held the small booklet in his hand, scratching his head as he read.

Although he had grown up with several grandfathers and had read numerous ancient books, the texts on True Qi movement were simply too ancient and abstruse. The simpler parts were manageable.

But when it came to the more esoteric passages, even he found them exceedingly difficult to comprehend.

"Like this?"

Li Chen extended a hand, and True Qi flared up like flames, rising from his palm.

"And then, like this?"

As he read, Li Chen’s hand subconsciously moved.

With a sudden motion, he slapped the ground with True Qi.

"Oh no!"

By the time he realized it, it was too late.

"Boom!!"

The ground caved in, leaving a massive pit. The grass had disappeared entirely, exposing the soil beneath, and the dirt was still scattering through the air, covering Li Chen from head to toe.

"I... overdid it again." Li Chen glanced around awkwardly.

It had been three days since he entered the second layer of the relic.

During this time, by the first night, Li Chen’s body had fully recovered.

After that, Yao Chou’s sparring partners became the primordial beasts of the forest.

As for Li Chen... well, he wouldn’t count himself in.

On the second night, Li Chen’s strength once again advanced, officially stepping into the Profound Level Peak.

It was the same realm that Zhao Xing, whom Li Chen encountered before, currently resided in.

Just one step away, and he would become an Earth-level expert.

Although he had not yet broken through to Earth Level, Li Chen wasn’t too disappointed. Instead, he turned his focus to studying the methods of applying True Qi.

To him now, his offensive techniques sometimes still seemed rather lacking.

Of course, that was just his own opinion.

Li Chen thought that, since he knew some martial techniques, he should be able to integrate True Qi into them.

But so far, with the exception of a few techniques, he had been unable to successfully merge True Qi with the majority of moves.

Li Chen had tried adding True Qi to ordinary martial techniques, and discovered that their power would grow and transform in ways he hadn’t expected.

Still, up until now, he was unsure of which techniques required what kinds of True Qi operation methods.

Everything would have to be researched and figured out by him slowly.

"Dinner’s ready!"

In the distance, Yao Chou dragged over a wild boar, weighing roughly one to two hundred pounds.

He approached Li Chen, threw the wild boar to the side, and said, "You’ve found quite the spot here. Lately, whether in cultivation or in battle, I’ve clearly felt my strength increasing. I feel like I’m about to break through to Mysterious Level Advanced Stage."

Li Chen glanced at Yao Chou but didn’t say anything.

"Ah... haha! So, uh, shall we eat?" Yao Chou pointed at the wild boar beside him and laughed.

"Whether we eat or not is up to me." Li Chen turned his head back to his reading.

"Come on, Master Li, look at the trouble I went through to hunt this. Let’s eat first, shall we?" Yao Chou pleaded bitterly, looking at Li Chen.

Though he knew how to roast meat, his attempts couldn’t hold a candle to those of Li Chen, who was experienced in wilderness survival.

After eating Li Chen’s cooking once, he flatly refused to cook for himself anymore.

"Alright, it should be time." Li Chen suddenly stood up and tucked the small booklet into his pocket.

"Hey, what are you doing? Are you planning revenge? Wait, I already apologized last time!" Yao Chou eyed him warily and took two steps back.

Right now, he was no match for Li Chen.

"What am I doing? Eating, of course!" Li Chen said irritably. "It’s been three days since we came in. It’s about time we head out."

"What? Leave already?" Yao Chou said reluctantly. "I was hoping to break through before leaving."

"Fill your stomach first!" Li Chen said, pointing at the wild boar discarded to the side. "Later, I’ll help you break through!"

"Hey, hey, hey, don’t act like breaking through is as easy as buying cabbages. You think breakthroughs happen just because you want them to?" Yao Chou waved his hand dismissively.

"It’s hard for me to break through, sure, but helping you? That shouldn’t be too difficult." Li Chen replied casually.

Yao Chou was already at the peak of the Middle Stage of Mysterious Level. All he needed was a little push. With that stimulus, Li Chen was confident Yao Chou would quickly break through to Mysterious Level Advanced Stage.

The appetite of martial artists was substantial, especially while cultivating.

This hundred-pound-plus wild boar ended up half-consumed by the two of them.

Of course, the remaining half didn’t go to waste—it all ended up in Little Crocodile Jia’s stomach.

"Take some time to digest, then get ready; I’ll help you break through later," Li Chen said.

Yao Chou shot Li Chen a skeptical look. He wasn’t entirely convinced by Li Chen’s words.

After all, his family had Earth-level experts.

Even so, none of them could directly help someone break through, could they?

So why did Li Chen claim he could do it?

An hour later...

"Big brother, I was wrong! Stop hitting me, or I’ll really die here!" Yao Chou lay on the ground, begging for mercy.

He was now certain that Li Chen was taking private revenge.

This wasn’t about helping him break through—it was clearly just an excuse to beat him up!

Unfortunately, the saddest part was that he was no match for Li Chen, beaten like a punching bag with no ability to counterattack.

Li Chen smiled as he walked over to the collapsed Yao Chou and lifted him onto his shoulder.

"Come on, we’re heading back now."

"Heading back?" Yao Chou’s expression turned bitter. "Boss, you’re letting me go back like this? If Bing Yu sees me, I’ll be the laughingstock!"

"What’s there to laugh about? Enduring hardship for a breakthrough is normal." Li Chen said indifferently.

"For a breakthrough?" Yao Chou flared his nostrils and widened his eyes. "You beat me so hard and then told me it was for a breakthrough? I—huh?"

"You’ve felt it, right?" Li Chen chuckled. "This is a breakthrough technique I figured out myself."

"The barrier of Mysterious Level Advanced Stage... it really loosened?" Yao Chou lay on Li Chen’s shoulder, his face full of disbelief.

He hadn’t thought Li Chen would actually pull it off.

"Humans are strange creatures. When faced with danger, they often unleash unimaginable strength." Li Chen smiled and said, "To be honest, my own cultivation achievements might as well be thanks to all those crises."

Yao Chou’s expression turned complicated.

He understood the principle.

But he had rarely used real danger to spur himself into action.

The last time, he had almost died, but in the end, surviving had directly pushed him up a level.

Now, he was beginning to understand why Li Chen’s cultivation speed was so fast. But after this realization, his feelings turned even more complicated.

"Thank goodness this man is my friend."
