Chapter 106: Chapter 88 Hollywood-style Heroism
Both of them sat in the back of the car with the driver at the wheel.
"By the way, hon, didn’t you say you needed to go on a business trip last time?" Li Chen asked.
"Yeah." Lin Yi nodded, "There’s a project that requires me to discuss in person."
"When is it?"
"It’s scheduled for tomorrow." Lin Yi said while looking at the data in her notebook.
Li Chen, seeing how intently Lin Yi was working, couldn’t help but hold her tender wrist with some concern, "Don’t push yourself too hard, your health is important."
Lin Yi lifted her head to see the concerned look in Li Chen’s eyes and couldn’t help but feel a warmth in her heart, nodding in response.
At this moment, however, their car suddenly came to a stop.
"What’s going on?" Li Chen asked.
"It seems like there’s a traffic jam up ahead." The driver looked at the situation in front of them.
Li Chen looked and sure enough, there was a long line of cars ahead, clearly jammed solid.
A traffic jam?
Lin Yi frowned slightly, she had a pile of work to do at the company today; traffic jams were unusual at this hour, the roads were usually clear.
Li Chen also felt helpless, but at that moment, there was the sound of gunfire from up ahead.
What was going on?
Li Chen was startled, and following the sound of the gunfire, there were also screams from people ahead.
"Beautiful wife, just stay in the car, I’ll go have a look," Li Chen said before opening the car door and leaping toward the front.
Not far ahead, several masked men holding firearms stood around a cash transport vehicle stopped in the middle of the road, its driver’s door open, and one of the policemen inside clutched his thigh, from where blood was gushing.
The other three policemen were lying on the ground, shot in various places, and although not yet dead, they too would be in danger of losing their lives if they weren’t promptly rushed to a hospital.
The robbers were quickly throwing the cases from inside the cash transport vehicle into a nearby van; on the road, there were three cars arranged side by side, blocking the road entirely.
This was a planned heist!
Initially, six individuals had parked three vehicles across the road that the cash transport vehicle was due to take, blocking it completely and forcing it to stop.
The drivers of the blocked vehicles, already irritable, were about to get out and confront the blockers when suddenly the people in the cars in front donned masks and armed themselves before stepping out and shooting directly at the cash transport vehicle!
The "pop pop pop" of gunfire erupted, and in an instant, the policeman driving the cash vehicle was shot in the thigh, while the other officers were swiftly taken down.
The terrified drivers witnessed this and scrambled to open their doors, running back the way they came!
"Ah!"
"There’s a robbery!"
The robbers, evidently well-trained, quickly packed all the cash from the transport vehicle into their van and then jumped into the vehicle, driving rapidly away.
But at that moment, a police car sped toward the scene from afar.
"Damn! How could the cops show up?" one of the robbers’ faces turned pale as they exclaimed, not expecting the police response to be this fast!
"It must be a patrol car, let’s deal with it quickly!" another robber picked up a firearm and leaned out of the vehicle, taking aim at the approaching police car.
"Be careful!" the police officer driving shouted as he violently turned the steering wheel, while the others in the car ducked down.
"Alert the headquarters!"
One of them yelled, then kicked open the door, drew his service firearm, and fired at the tires of the van ahead.
"Bang bang bang"
Several shots in succession and the van suddenly veered out of control.
"The tires have been blown out, damn filthy cops!" one of the robbers cried out in alarm.
The driver of the van slammed on the brakes, and in an instant, the van came to a stop.
"What do we do now, Brother Kun?" the robbers began to panic, while the policemen used their vehicle for cover, their guns aimed in this direction.
"Headquarters, there’s a robbery on New Grid Road, requesting immediate backup," a policeman reported over the radio, knowing if they could just hold the robbers off, a large number of police would soon arrive.
"Take the money and get out of the van," Brother Kun thought for a moment, his eyes flashing with ruthlessness, "We’re running that way!"
Brother Kun pointed in the direction that was clogged with the long line of traffic.
The robbers heard the command and complied, each carrying a case and holding a gun as they exited the van, instantly opening fire on the police car as they got out.
The robbers were armed with submachine guns, far superior to the policemen’s pistols, forcing the officers to shrink back, head down, not daring to peek out.
"Brother Kun, we don’t have enough people; there are still three boxes left!"
"Leave the extras, let’s move!" Brother Kun commanded loudly.
The robbers jumped into the midst of the cars and ran forward frantically!
The drivers who had been there before had already run far away, but those stuck midway didn’t know what was happening. Seeing other drivers running past, although confused, they stayed in their cars waiting for the traffic to clear, oblivious to the gunshots earlier, drowned out by the music playing inside their vehicles.
Some drivers remained in their cars, and at that moment, the robbers also entered amidst the vehicles. The abundance of cars provided the best cover, making it difficult for the few policemen to open fire.
After reporting the situation, several policemen also gave chase.
Lin Yi sat in his car when suddenly a commotion outside caught his attention. He looked and saw a large group of policemen moving forward from his position.
What’s going on? Lin Yi was startled but it wasn’t long before he saw many drivers running towards him, their faces etched with panic.
"Move it!" Brother Kun glanced back at the policemen who had entered the line of vehicles and felt a surge of nervousness. If they didn’t escape promptly, they would be caught in the police’s inescapable net!
The robbery had been meticulously planned; without that surprise patrol vehicle, they would have easily escaped!
But damn it, it was all because of that patrol vehicle that their plan was thrown into chaos. Now, they could only hope to outrun the police’s surveillance quickly.
However, at that moment, someone noticed an individual dressed in a police uniform charging towards them.
"How did the police get here so fast?" A grave look spread over Brother Kun’s face.
"What do we do now, Brother Kun?" The others looked to Brother Kun, the acknowledged leader. In such a situation, they naturally turned to him for direction.
"Take hostages!" A glint flashed in Brother Kun’s eyes. The only option now was to take hostages and negotiate with the police.
As long as they had the hostages, the police wouldn’t dare to make a rash move.
Hearing Brother Kun’s words, the men quickly searched for drivers still in their cars. Meanwhile, the policemen charging in saw the robbers’ intentions. One of the robust policewomen glanced at them and instantly assessed their plan: "Hurry everyone! They’re trying to take hostages!"
In one car, a robber spotted someone inside and gleefully knocked on the window.
The driver, still puzzled, was about to roll down his window to ask the reason when he suddenly saw the other party pull out a gun and smash it against the glass with force!
"Bang!"
The violent strike terrified the driver.
After several more blows, the window shattered, and the menacing robber pointed his gun at the driver: "Get out, now!"
Terrified, the driver hurriedly opened the door, intent on getting out.
Just then, the robber felt someone tap his shoulder.
Turning around, he was greeted by a massive fist!
A punch landed, skewing the robber’s nose, blood flowing freely, his head spinning. He shook his head violently only to find someone standing right in front of him.
Almost instinctively, the robber raised his gun, but before he could fire, the man in front had already snatched his submachine gun and struck his head with it, knocking him to the ground!
Li Chen looked down at the unconscious robber on the ground and then turned to the driver: "Get back in."
The driver quickly returned to his car, while Li Chen walked towards the remaining five robbers.
As one robber was searching for a driver, he spotted Li Chen approaching head-on and immediately raised his gun.
"Put your hands up!"
However, Li Chen flicked his firearm expertly. Before the robber could aim properly, Li Chen’s tool struck the robber’s gun, and his entire figure charged forth like a tiger descending the mountain!
His Left Fist smashed down, pinning the robber to the ground, and then he knocked the assailant unconscious with a strike.
Hearing noises up ahead, another robber looking for hostages lifted his head but didn’t see anything. Suddenly, as he turned around, he found someone standing beside him.
Startled, but Li Chen’s right hand shot out, snatching the robber’s gun and grabbing his neck, silencing any sound he might have made.
With a squeeze, the robber passed out.
In just a short time, Li Chen had dealt with several of the robbers’ underlings, and Brother Kun was still searching for hostages when a calm voice suddenly rose: "Is there anything else worth searching for?"
Brother Kun was startled, lifting his hand, and fired wildly at Li Chen who was sitting atop a nearby car, but all shots missed.
Li Chen’s speed was too fast; he had already left the top of the car by the time Brother Kun pulled the trigger.
Brother Kun felt a sharp pain in his wrist as the gun was knocked out of his hand. When he turned, another punch came, slamming him against the window of a Volkswagen.
Before he could retaliate, he was grabbed by the collar by Li Chen and knocked out with a punch.
Having dealt with the robbers, Li Chen was ready to leave when the four policemen who first arrived stood gaping at the scene. How could such formidable robbers be subdued in less than a minute by this man?
The driver who had been in the car was also agape, as if he could fit a duck egg in his mouth, but then excitement overtook him. He planned to post about the incident online; a scene that one would only expect in an American blockbuster had unfolded before his eyes. He was eager to brag about it.
As Li Chen was about to leave, a cold voice called out: "Li Chen."
