Chapter 468: Chapter 468: Coming to See One’s Own Friend

"Did Beibei tell you?"

Bo Yan gave a hum of acknowledgment. To this day, when he thought about it, he still couldn’t understand why Zhizhi would like Xi Nian—it didn’t seem logical. "I’ve asked Beibei about it, and he seems to think it’s a natural development."

Yuran, feeling somewhat helpless, also wanted to laugh. "Should we really trust our son’s sixth sense? You and I have been on guard against Xi Nian, afraid he would find some loophole to exploit, and here our Beibei is handing the loophole over to him on a platter."

Bo Yan blinked. "It’s okay."

Yuran gave a hum and looked at him dubiously, "What is?"

Bo Yan said, "My reach may not be the longest but, when strictly measured, it isn’t short either. There’s too little we can offer Zhizhi; he must learn to grow on his own. If he truly falls into a pit, then that too can be a lesson.

It’s okay, trust me, will you?"

Yuran nodded. "Of course, I trust you."

Zhizhi was their child, after all. Why would Bo Yan ever want to make things difficult for Zhizhi?

...

In Xi Nian’s room, someone had been waiting for a long time—the visitor was Xi Yan, whom they hadn’t seen for many years. The men of the Xi Family had a very consistent appearance, all with a rather gentle and attractive look, but Xi Yan’s attractiveness was even more exceptional than Xi Nian’s.

His hair was slightly long and dyed white, which gave him the appearance of a troublemaker. When Xi Nian opened the door, Xi Yan had just taken off his beanie, smiling lightly, "Big brother."

"You’ve come?"

Seeing Xi Yan, Xi Nian also revealed a rare smile on his face. He closed the door, went to the kitchen to pour a cup of coffee for Xi Yan, and the two sat down facing each other. "What made you think to come here?"

Xi Yan stretched his arms, held a cup of coffee, crossed his legs, and said in a casual manner, "Regarding the showdown with Xi Yang, there are bound to be some follow-ups. I’m here to go along with the old man’s conjecture. Given his suspicious nature, if he didn’t come to find you, we would be busier later on."

Xi Nian laughed, his eyes devoid of warmth, "You seem to understand him quite well now."

Xi Yan smiled wryly, "Having died once, I should have learned something."

The scars crisscrossing his chest under his clothes were several fatal wounds. His relationship with Xi Yang wasn’t as good at the start as it was with Xi Nian. Who in the Xi Family really believes in brotherly respect?

Yet Xi Nian truly dispelled his and Xi Yang’s wariness with actions.

They called Xi Nian "big brother" for good reason, they were children of the Xi Family too, but they held no affection for the General’s Family.

His self-mockery met Xi Nian’s eyes. Xi Nian drank a sip of coffee, eyelashes lowered. "To feel sad proves you haven’t let go. Xi Yan, if you can’t bring yourself to act, you can tell me."

Xi Yan was taken aback but then shook his head, his eyes clear, not appearing as someone who couldn’t act. "I’m just missing Xi Bei a little. Back when I was locked in the dark room, she sneaked an egg to me, but she ended up getting a harsh beating from the old man.

Big brother, about Beibei and Beibei..."

Xi Nian’s eyes darkened. "The trail has gone cold, and the information I can find now is limited. When we were not yet fully fledged, someone was pulling the strings from the shadows. The favorite people around the old man were only a few.

Xi Gu lacked brotherly affection, but he had a bit of infatuation toward his mother. Back when I was isolated on the Xi Family’s solitary island, and you all were locked in the dark room;

the old man traveled afar for the merchants association, with no time to attend to the inner house. The only one who could have tampered with things was the much-favored mother of Xi Gu."

Xi Nian spoke more, his fists clenched tighter, a storm of bloodlust in the depths of his eyes, a darkness that eroded the bones, like maggots gnawing at his very marrow, unwilling to rest until his enemies were broken and destroyed.

Seeing his emotional loss of control, Xi Yan, disregarding everything else, placed a hand on Xi Nian’s, "Big brother..."

The outburst from Xi Nian seemed to retreat somewhat, his bloodshot eyes resting on the figure before him, his fingers moved slightly, Xi Yan withdrew his hand, determination in his eyes, "Big brother, if there’s anything you find inconvenient to handle, you can leave it to me, I’ll do it for you.

As for yourself, you still have much you can do, don’t break yourself in this cycle, as long as the Xi Family stands tall, my conscience will never be at ease."

Xi Nian suddenly laughed, a smile deep and inscrutable, with a hint of malice, "You’re right, as long as the Xi Family stands, our conscience will never be at ease. Have you found out where Xi Gu’s mother is staying?"

Xi Yan shook his head, "The old man really dotes on her, has shielded her thoroughly. Knowing that your wings are fully grown and fearing the Xi Family can no longer control you, he moved her to a hidden location.

Xi Gu has been making calls, but she hangs up before we can track her location. She’s actually not our most urgent enemy to deal with now;

once the old man is laid to rest, our plan, with one link after the other, will become much simpler."

The primary opponent is only Xi Zhen.

Xi Nian hummed in agreement, then fell silent, the two sat quietly in the living room, Xi Nian looking at Xi Yan, his gaze softening slightly, "You’ve worked hard.

But, don’t take risks. We have been patient up to this point, waiting a little longer won’t hurt."

Xi Yan’s rigid face also softened a bit, "Yes, big brother."

The two had a meal together in the room, and at dusk, the sunset climbed halfway into the sky, ablaze with fiery red passionate hues.

Xi Nian’s door was knocked on, and Xi Yan instinctively became guarded, staring at the door.

Xi Nian pointed towards the room, "You go in first, I’ll see who it is."

Xi Yan nodded, his figure disappearing from the living room like lightning.

Xi Nian stood up, straightened his clothes, and approached the door to see who was in the monitor. He couldn’t help but laugh, opened the door to find Zhizhi with a baseball cap on his head and a little kitten mask on his face, looking quite out of place.

He looked down at the child in front of him and crouched down, "The treasure of the Yuran family?"

Zhizhi nodded with a smile, handing over the gift in his hands, "Uncle, my name is Bo Zhi, you can call me Zhizhi, I’ve come to share some cake with you. Dad said the cake from this hotel is really delicious. I remembered your invitation this afternoon, so here I am."

As he spoke, he blinked at Xi Nian, clearly hoping to be invited in but not imposing, standing politely outside while Xi Nian stepped aside, "Come on in."

Zhizhi’s eyes squinted happily, and Xi Nian took the little cake from him and led him into the house.

Zhizhi looked around the room and laughed, "Uncle Xi, do you have guests?"

Xi Nian followed Zhizhi’s gaze to the table with the uncollected tableware and chuckled, "You have quite the observational skills, Zhizhi."

Zhizhi laughed, sat cross-legged on the carpet next to the low table, and changed the subject, "Uncle Xi, let’s eat the cake together."

Xi Nian asked with a smile, "Did you come by yourself?"

Zhizhi nodded, "Dad said our relationship hasn’t reached the level of drinking and chatting together, so Zhizhi came alone. Zhizhi feels a bond with uncle at first sight, I came on my own to see my friend."
