Chapter 336: Yuran’s Despondency
Chapter 336: Chapter 336: Yuran’s Despondency
After closing the door behind him, Xie Cheng felt an unprecedented sense of relief.
Back at the set, Bo Yan turned his head and looked at him. Xie Cheng immediately understood what he meant and hurried over to him, "Don’t worry, she’s in your rest room."
Bo Yan frowned, seemingly in a bad mood. He shifted restlessly in his seat, and after a short while, he stood up and walked over to Lin Zhan. Xie Cheng didn’t know what he intended to do, but he had a bad feeling it wasn’t going to be something good.
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before Lin Zhan’s forceful voice could be heard booming, "You’re really becoming more devoted to your work, aren’t you? If it’s not taking leave, then it’s clashing schedules. How come I never noticed just how excellent you, Bo Yan, really are?"
The moment Lin Zhan heard Bo Yan requested leave, he blew his top, although he acknowledged that Bo Yan’s filming pace was very fast. He didn’t hold up the shooting, which made him extremely efficient.
With his solid acting skills and rare occurrences of NGs, it was extremely difficult to find fault with him.
A person like Bo Yan, in another production team, could take an afternoon off, even half a month, and they would approve it, but Lin Zhan wouldn’t. No matter how high-profile you are, asking for leave would touch his bottom line.
So, it wasn’t out of Xie Cheng’s expectations that Bo Yan would be scolded for requesting leave. Yet, surprising everyone, Lin Zhan quickly granted his leave on the application after Bo Yan whispered a few words in his ear.
Bo Yan walked back leisurely, to Xie Cheng’s amazement.
Reaching his spot, Bo Yan picked up his coat, "Try not to look so miserable, as if you’ve lost your parents. I’m going to rest now. No one is allowed to disturb me. I’ll handle other matters."
Xie Cheng touched his nose, "I understand. She didn’t seem in a very good mood."
"Hmm!"
Bo Yan didn’t say much more, and with hurried steps, walked away. Xie Cheng called out after him, "Bo Yan, I don’t say this to gain your favor, and I truly apologize for my rashness.
I’ve just sincerely apologized to Yuran. She said she never really took me for someone serious, so she’s wasn’t angry about my previous attitude. After apologizing, I actually felt like I wronged her."
Speaking to this point, Xie Cheng was still perplexed, and finally added with resignation, "Regardless, I will pay attention to whatever happens to her from now on."
Bo Yan didn’t expect Xie Cheng to come to this realization on his own and continued walking without turning back.
Xie Cheng wasn’t sure what to make of that, so he stopped thinking about it, sat back down, and pretended to doze off.
Lin Zhan had approached him at some point, "Your master has left, so what are you doing here?"
This remark...
How could he respond?
No matter how he replied, it didn’t seem quite right.
Xie Cheng looked at Lin Zhan awkwardly. The old man scrutinized him from head to toe with a judging gaze, "Director Lin, I know you’re harboring deep grievances, and this is the anger stirred up by Bo Yan.
But I’m not the one who angered you, so why turn your fire on me?
That’s not fair."
Lin Zhan snorted, "You’re an accomplice, don’t think I don’t know about you going to meet Yuran. No more excuses, you young people these days, you’re really becoming outrageous."
Xie Cheng: "..."
I really didn’t come here to talk about life ambitions.
Lin Zhan certainly wasn’t planning to let him off the hook. Although his gaze was fixed forward, he always seemed to sense a bit of scheming, "Xie Cheng, is the great movie star Bo Yan here to bully the little girl?"
Xie Cheng, looking at the gossip-hungry Director Lin Zhan, really was at a loss for words, "Director Lin, could you be mindful of our surroundings, please? Blurting it out so bluntly, I’m not afraid of dying, you know!"
Lin Zhan, "Afraid of what? My team, rest assured, if even a single word of what you say leaks out, it’ll be my fault.
What you really need to tell me is, does Yuran really plan on spending a lifetime with Bo Yan?
I think Bo Yan, this man, is too outstanding in appearance, not really a good marriage prospect. Won’t you try to persuade her?"
Xie Cheng couldn’t help but smile wryly, getting tangled up in Director Lin’s illogical speech, "Director Lin, I truly admire you. Your imagination is so vast you could be a scriptwriter yourself. Isn’t it a waste of talent otherwise?"
Lin Zhan puffed up with indignant, wide eyes, "What are you joking about, you jerk, is this how you talk to an elder?"
Xie Cheng, "... Director Lin, can we please stop using old age to our advantage?"
Lin Zhan: "..."
...
Bo Yan had thought he’d come back quickly enough that Yuran wouldn’t have fallen asleep yet, but to his surprise, when he arrived at the room, he saw the young girl hugging the quilt, sleeping with her little face flushed red, bewitchingly adorable.
He shed his costume, washed his face, and after lifting the quilt climbed into bed, taking her into his arms, and then fell into a deep sleep alongside her.
They slept straight through until past five in the afternoon, when Yuran slowly woke up within Bo Yan’s embrace. Bo Yan had already awoken, but his arm was trapped in her hug. He couldn’t pull it away without causing the young girl to sob, which kept him from daring to move.
Yuran met the eyes of the person she was hugging. His eyes were deep, his thoughts unreadable, but she could feel his concern and care for her.
Yuran snuggled closer in his arms, "Big Brother Qi, when did you wake up?"
She was supposed to be the one visiting the set, but ended up getting in the way of his work. So when she asked the question, Yuran felt a little embarrassed, though the emotion was fleeting and quickly disappeared.
She had asked for his opinion before coming, after all.
Then, she looked at him righteously, "Big Brother Qi, I’m really sorry for interrupting your work."
Although her words sounded gracious, Bo Yan could tell she didn’t feel the slightest bit sorry, so he gave up, taking her into his arms and holding her tight, "In front of me, you don’t need to pretend to be strong. Just be happy, that’s all."
Yuran hummed in agreement.
"I’m really feeling down today, Big Brother Qi, can we talk for a bit?"
"Sure," without hesitation.
Yuran began a long story. Ever since she heard from Bo Yan that Fu Bairan wasn’t her biological sister, she had felt a lot more at ease. If her own sister whom she had raised ended up stabbing her in the back, that would have been really heartbreaking. But... since they had no blood relation, it was possible that she hadn’t nurtured her well enough, hadn’t raised her properly.
Sometimes, she would be bothered by things she couldn’t let go of, things that troubled her. But after ranting to Bo Yan, she always managed to stabilize her emotions quickly.
"Big Brother Qi, is there any news about my sister?"
Bo Yan comforted her by stroking her head and chuckled softly, "Not yet, but it should be soon. My people have tracked down a lead. Following up on this lead, we should get results quickly."
Yuran let out a sigh of relief, "Sometimes I’m scared to think about what my sister might have gone through. She was so young at that time. How could I have mistaken someone else for her?"
