Chapter 318: Chapter 227: Is This the End for Him and Her?
Ziyan didn’t want to listen to Liu Yuyuan’s harsh words anymore, so she let Su Yan hold Dudu while she went to the kitchen.
Since the late stages of her pregnancy until now, Su Yuecheng had never let her into the kitchen, and worried about the cleanliness of outside food, he made time to come home to cook every day.
Su Yuecheng turned his head to look at her: “Help me wash the vegetables, use hot water to wash them.”
Ziyan nodded, rolled up her sleeves; she often cooked when alone at home, so she was skilled at it.
Liu Yuyuan stood in the distance watching and still held resentment towards Ziyan.
Blaming her for not only taking over her son’s home, but now her son had to serve her–even she, as a mother, hadn’t enjoyed such treatment!
Su Yuecheng glanced indifferently at Ziyan, who was engrossed in washing vegetables, knowing she must have heard something unpleasant just now.
“How about we go to the sea tomorrow? The weather has been nice these past couple of days.”
Ziyan turned her head to look at him, and then smiled and shook her head, continuing to wash the vegetables.
“Why not go?”
Ziyan scooped up the vegetables and dried her hands to gesture: it’s troublesome to bring a child, going out means bringing a lot of things.
Su Yuecheng blurted out without thinking: “Don’t we have me?”
Your Mom just got here, you should spend more time with her… I want to go out for a walk after dinner, to see if there’s a suitable storefront.
“I’ll go with you.”
After dinner, Su Yan went to school. When Liu Yuyuan went to take her afternoon nap, Su Yuecheng, carrying Dudu, took Ziyan out the door.
The streets of the United Kingdom, lined with retro European architecture, brimming with artistic vibe, made one’s pace unconsciously slow down.
“If you’re tired holding him, let me carry him for a while.” Ziyan looked at Dudu in his arms and felt a bit guilty.
Su Yuecheng turned his head to smiled at her, “Do you think I don’t even have the strength for this?”
Ziyan returned the smile, then walked beside him.
Ever since they got married, she had never taken a walk with Tang Shaosheng or even had a proper meal together.
Though husband and wife, they were more like indifferent strangers to each other, cold and distant.
“Ziyan, let’s check out this place; it’s closer to home so I can pick you up on my way back from work.”
Ziyan came back to her senses, nodded, and followed him.
He was very thoughtful in his actions, even when asked to do things that were not of his concern, he would do his best.
Just like now, he was helping her look for a storefront, he was the one mostly discussing with the landlords, taking many details into consideration.
Whether it faced the sun, was it convenient to set things up, how to plan the layout–he thought about it all very carefully.
Worried that Ziyan would get tired, they strolled leisurely until past three in the afternoon and decided on a store, even paying the deposit upfront.
“I’ll find someone to decorate tomorrow. Tell me any ideas you have, should be able to open by next week.”
Ziyan nodded and then told him, “The money, I might not be able to pay you back so soon.”
Su Yuecheng stared into the distance, his smile carrying a trace of bitterness: “No worries, there’s no hurry.”
He didn’t like her drawing clear distinctions in their dealings; more lamentably, he couldn’t find a justifiable reason for being kind to her.
He feared stepping over the line, worrying things might turn sour, and as for Dudu’s secret, he didn’t know how to broach the topic.
That evening, Su Yuecheng planned to take Ziyan for a walk at the square, but suddenly received a call from the hospital, saying there was surgery to perform.
“Ziyan, don’t go out alone, just watch some TV and rest early, I’ll probably come back late.”
Ziyan nodded and saw him to the door: “Go on, don’t worry.”
Su Yuecheng left the house with concern, fearing nothing but his mother being harsh to Ziyan.
Liu Yuyuan sat on the sofa, looking at the reluctant couple with even more disgust towards Ziyan.
After Su Yuecheng left, Ziyan turned around only to meet Liu Yuyuan’s hostile gaze.
Then, as if she saw nothing, she held Dudu and started walking upstairs.
“Stop right there!”
Ziyan halted, puzzled, looking at her as she put down the remote control and strode over to Ziyan with a haughty pose: “Are you dating my son?”
Ziyan shook her head, looking at her calmly and openly.
“Then how long do you plan to stay here? You, a single mother, clinging to my son’s side, and my son isn’t young anymore, how can he find a wife with you living here?”
Ziyan was silent, what she said was indeed reasonable.
Liu Yuyuan looked her up and down and continued: “Also, don’t use any petty schemes to deceive my son, and don’t expect to gain any benefits from him. Living in the home of a strange man with someone else’s child, where do you get the nerve! And yet you seem so at peace.”
