Chapter 498: Chapter 363: Relaxed and Natural_3

Owen Bertram raised his hand, a hidden force soothing the insect. Its luminescent tendrils fell slack, giving up the attack. Owen opened up his earthenware jar, collecting the bug inside.

"This place is eerie," the Fourth Great Realm shivered, stamping its feet uncontrollably. "Stronger than any Tire-3 Demon Beings in other parts of the Extinction Domain!"

Owen turned to the other two from The Third Great Boundary and asked, "Would either of you like to try?" Both shook their heads. Even the Fourth Great Realm almost got injured; they had no intention to act tough.

Owen shrugged, "Then just follow me." The Spirit Insects on this layer were relatively weak. Still, those Tire-3 ones able to remain on this layer must be more formidable - at least, more cunning than those below - otherwise, they would have been caught by Insect Hunters long ago.

Without wasting any more time, Owen acted quickly, capturing the other two Tire-3 insects on this layer, then led the group along a winding tunnel to the next layer.

Through it all, Glenn Mitchell merely watched with an indifferent eye, his thoughts a mystery to Owen.

The second layer saw a significant increase in both the number and power of Spirit Insects. Though there was no sunlight, flickering green lights adorned the emptiness above, and even some broad-leafed plants emitted their own luminescence.

"We must be careful here," Bart warned everyone. "I’ve heard that the lights here have a mesmerising effect on human cultivators, slowing their reactions. On the contrary, the bugs seem to thrive under it."

The suggestion had some of the more timid cultivators edging closer to Owen for protection. Suddenly, one of them gasped: "Look over there!"

Everyone followed his gaze to see a blanket of moss that looked like jagged teeth, with pieces of torn corpses strewn about and blood dripping everywhere. You could even see bits of human limbs buried in the roots.

Bart observed for a moment, then solemnly said, "They must have died recently."

Unexpectedly, echoes of divine skills being activated sounded from the distance, followed by shouts. Owen immediately quickened his pace, with the crowd following close behind. When they crossed half a mile of vegetation, they came upon a thick patch of grass resembling a vast, rolling ocean.

A corpse was wafting to and fro on this "ocean wave"!

The tips of the grass emitted specks of light. Initially, they were pale green, but after the corpse "drifted" by, the grass stabbed its dead flesh, and the pale green sparkles turned blood red!

After several such drifts, the corpse had shrunk to a mummy.

On the side of this grassy ocean, three cultivators were being encircled by a strange insect. Over a dozen, seven-to-eight-foot-long insect legs, as slender and pointed as bamboo joints, were stabbing at them from all sides.

These three cultivators were the cream of the young generation. They combined their forces to form an array, conjuring Master Edwiin’s protection on the four cardinal directions of their display.

As the spear-like insect legs stabbed down, a spiritual imprint would fly out from one of the protective Masters to block each attack. When the two forces collided, there was a "pop", and the spiritual imprint exploded into sparks, with the beast’s legs getting repelled.

But even though the three of them were struggling to defend themselves, the insect was having no trouble continuing its attack while its main body was still hidden underground. Every now and then, it would unleash additional divine powers through its long legs!A bug’s foot suddenly became covered with a layer of bright gold, its penetrating power against any defense greatly strengthened. The explosion of a spiritual light imprint couldn’t stop it either, the bug’s foot nearly stabbing into the eye of one of the cultivators. However, another spiritual imprint shot out from the protected aura of a Master, managing to block it.

Another bug’s foot suddenly became heavy, and when it landed on the spiritual light imprint, it suddenly released three layers of shockwaves. Protected under the array of Master Edwin, the three men were disturbed by the shockwaves, nearly losing control of the array.

Luckily, these powerful divine skills couldn’t be released at will by the bug. It had to wait a long time after using them once, otherwise, the three would have become corpses floating in the grassy waves, not even waiting for Owen Bertram to arrive.

Bart’s eyes widened in shock: "What kind of bug is this, it’s so formidable, I’m afraid it’s already reached Tire-4...."

The usually low-key and silent Glenn Mitchell, upon seeing the three men, suddenly used a divine skill, and in one step crossed a distance of tens of feet, appeared beside the bug, took out from his waist what seemed to be an ordinary chopping axe, and fiercely slashed towards a long bug’s foot.

Underneath the axe blade, a snap of crimson thunderbolt sparked!

Bart was shocked again: "This fellow is in the Fifth Great Realm?!" Only Owen Bertram on the scene could see through Glenn Mitchell’s true cultivation level.

The bug seemed to understand the severity of the situation too. The ground suddenly cracked open to reveal countless fissures, from which even more bamboo-like bug’s feet stretched out. A dozen or so tangled into larger ones, and whipped down like a cane, clashing hard with Glenn Mitchell.

The thunderbolt exploded, the bug’s feet scattered and retreated, Glenn Mitchell remained motionless, but the other bug’s feet immediately whipped down again. Glenn Mitchell calmly faced them and said to the three men, "Brothers Dante, seven years ago when you were hunting beasts in Frost Mountain, you only took away one Tire-3 Demon Beast and discarded the other two Tire-2 Beasts because you didn’t think they were valuable. In the end, I picked them up. That winter, those two Tire-2 Demon Beasts helped me overcome a crucial stage in my cultivation path.

Although you did not intend to grant a favor, I benefited from it. This rescue of yours now repays that kindness!"

While he spoke, he swung the chopping axe in a circle, taking all the bug feet attacking the Dante brothers onto himself, a single man fighting against nearly a hundred bug feet!

The Brothers Dante retreated in disarray and couldn’t help but sigh in admiration, "We had no knowledge of this matter, had no idea that you would save our lives today. Among the disciples from poor families, there are indeed heroes with such lofty integrity!"

They then noticed Owen Bertram, and promptly came over to pay him their respects. During the First Stage Assessment, it was Owen Bertram who pulled them out of the Short-lived Valley.

Glenn Mitchell battled the strange bug alone, causing thunderbolts and spiritual energy to ripple like violent winds. He even had the upper hand, the bug could only launch a counterattack occasionally by using its divine powers.

Owen Bertram, with his hands behind his back, was nodding in approval. He then said, "Alright, you’ve repaid your favor, no need to waste time." With a wave of his hand, nearly a hundred bamboo-like bug’s feet suddenly fell silent and retracted underground. Then, a mound formed on the distant ground, from which a large bug, the size of a dried tree branch, drilled out. Owen Bertram simply dropped an earthenware jar, and collected it inside.

Glenn Mitchell held his axe aloft, a thunderbolt gathering on it, but his opponent had disappeared...

He lowered his head in silence, putting the axe away. His ice-cold expression, unchanged for ages, almost broke: Where is my opponent? So easily taken away? That’s...improper manners, isn’t it?

However, he didn’t say another word. It was not necessary. Glenn Mitchell was confident in his victory over this monster, but it would also require at least thirty rounds. But such a formidable opponent, in the hands of others, was unbearably obedient—how could he speak ill of such a person as Owen Bertram?
