Chapter 101: Chapter 100: Big and Small Ghost Markets (Third Update)_1

Not far from the Taoist Temple, there was a small stream - though it was still within five miles. Owen Bertram sneaked past the government officials’ posts and came to the stream, releasing Little Loach.

Little Loach hadn’t been in the water for several days and was already quite impatient.

It flicked its tail and flapped around a few times before settling comfortably in the water, stretching out its two long whiskers.

Owen Bertram instructed, "The journey is long, you better hurry."

Little Loach gave him a reassuring look and disappeared with a flick of its body.

This water network was all interconnected, so Owen Bertram was sure Little Loach would be able to return to the Rogue River.

He could attach his soul directly to Little Loach, but this time he needed to find the way, and his instincts in the water were far inferior to Little Loach’s. If he were to go himself, he would probably not make it back to the Rogue River by daylight.

But letting Little Loach go by itself, Owen Bertram was quite sure that the fellow would get distracted and forget its mission along the way.

So, Owen Bertram attached his soul to Little Loach every once in a while to check on its progress.

Sure enough, during his second soul attachment, he found Little Loach playing in an unknown river, having found a deep pond and already been playing for quite some time...

All because there was a wooden ball floating in the pond, lost by some village child nearby. The fellow enjoyed using its nose to spin the ball around, having a great time.

Owen Bertram scolded it, and Little Loach reluctantly discarded the ball, hurrying on its way.

However, it soon began to negotiate with its elder brother: "Can you make me a ball?"

As you said, elder brother, we should exercise more after eating to help with digestion. With a ball, I can exercise.

In order to appease it and make it focus on the journey, Owen Bertram agreed readily.

In this manner, Little Loach traveled and played until the wee hours of the night before it finally returned to the Rogue River.

In reality, with its speed in the water, it should have reached the Ghost Zone in at most one shichen (2 hours).

King of Souls and the others had been quite anxious during this time.

They had all sensed the huge changes that occurred in Burning Hillock that night. However, the terrifying power emanating from it made them extremely apprehensive, and they dared not go over to investigate.

And then, to their surprise, they discovered that their Honored Lord had not appeared for several days in a row. Had he given up on them?

They had been working diligently to complete the tasks assigned by their Honored Lord, hoping to find an opportunity to curry favor with him.

After the appearance of Little Loach, the four of them finally breathed a sigh of relief.

King of Souls personally lifted the Ghost Account for Little Loach, even though Little Loach could have entered on its own.

Drowned Ghost Princess was even more attentive, using her magic to boost the waves more than ten miles away from the Ghost Zone. For this stretch of water, Little Loach barely needed to swim, as the waves carried it straight into the Ghost Zone.

Little Loach flicked its tail and wound up on the huge bluestone slab in front of Butcher Maxwell’s house.

For some reason, it liked to lie on the slab. Every time it appeared, Butcher Maxwell was terrified, fearing that one day the Envoy would suddenly remember that he had once offended it on this bluestone slab and come to settle the score...

Through Little Loach, Owen Bertram spoke, "I have come today to evaluate your performance."

King of Souls hurriedly came forward, while secretly channeling some soul power into the water. The alluring Drowned Ghost Princess, who had been about to emerge from the water, felt a force pulling on her ankle and sank back down with a gurgle.

Drowned Ghost Princess was furious. What was going on? This was the Water Ghost’s specialty! How dare they use it against her?

"We have always kept the Honored Lord’s edict in mind and have already set up the Ghost Market in these days. It has gained some reputation among the various monks in the upper and lower reaches of the Rogue River. Furthermore, we have pooled our wisdom and drawn on the experiences of the Human Race, preparing to hold a Small Gathering every month, and a Grand Gathering every three months.

The time for the Small Gathering has been set for the middle of each month, and in five days, it will be the first Ghost Market Small Gathering. We boldly wish to invite our Honored Lord to attend. We are simple-minded and may have overlooked some things, so we ask the Honored Lord for guidance."

Owen Bertram was secretly surprised: the Ghost Market had already been set up? These fellows were quite efficient.

"Well, if I have time, I will surely come."

"Thank you, Honored Lord!" King of Souls was overjoyed.

Little Loach slowly said, "You did a good job with this task, and I shall reward you accordingly."

"This is our duty. We do not presume to ask for the Honored Lord’s rewards."

Little Loach flicked its tail, "There are punishments for wrongdoing and rewards for achievements. Let me first examine your cultivation levels."

King of Souls and the others were even more ecstatic. The Honored Lord finally saw their worth! He would personally guide their cultivation! They must work even harder on their tasks in the future!

However, in his excitement, King of Souls forgot to keep an eye on Drowned Ghost Princess. She emerged from the water, looking weak and vulnerable, a real beauty coming out of the water!

If it weren’t for the strong yin energy radiating from her body, making the onlooker’s blood vessels stiffen.

"Honored Lord~"

With a sweet, lingering call, Drowned Ghost Princess exhibited her divine powers.

Then, with anticipation in her watery eyes, she looked at Little Loach, waiting for feedback - her eyes seemed to bleed!

Little Loach pondered for a moment, then said, "Good, next one."

Drowned Ghost Princess: "..."

King of Souls was secretly delighted. You seductive fox, you deserve it! What kind of person is our Honored Lord that he would be interested in you? You still want to become his concubine? Dream on!

Lord of the Skeleton Sea stepped forward and displayed his divine powers as well, with countless skull heads rolling about on the ground in a terrifying display.

Little Loach said, "Next one."

King of Souls stepped forward.

"Next one."

Corpse Fiend, the honest fellow, was forcibly squeezed to the last position...

"Ugh—"

Flames spewed out in groups. Little Loach opened its mouth and gulped them all down.

Corpse Fiend was baffled. Why was it that when the others showcased their divine powers, the Honored Lord merely watched, but when it was his turn, he ate them all up?

Little Loach gave an explanation, "You’re different from them. I need to understand if there’s anything lacking in your flames."

Corpse Fiend nodded. It was just a few balls of Spiritual Flame, and there were plenty more in his body. He could quickly replenish them.

"Alright, I have now understood your cultivation levels. I will think it over and plan your cultivation path accordingly."

King of Souls knelt down trembling, "Thank you, Honored Lord, for your great kindness!"

This was no small matter! Planning their future cultivation path! The Honored Lord was going to show them the Great Path!

Having eaten the Spiritual Flames, Little Loach felt drowsy after its meal and didn’t want to stay any longer. With a swish of its tail, it returned to the water.

"Farewell, Honored Lord."

The other three only paid lip service to be respectful, while Drowned Ghost Princess actually used her waves to transport Little Loach more than ten miles away.

Corpse Fiend stood there with a stiff neck, thinking proudly, "The Honored Lord likes to eat my spiritual flames!"
