Chapter 84: Revenge
Chapter 84: Revenge
Just as usual, things were on the familiar routine and everyone was spending their days doing their duties.
Meanwhile, the counts’ beheading event was also held. It said all the counts’ families had lost everything due to commoners attacking them and ruining their everything, becoming a big threat which even the higher ups couldn’t control.
The commoners had lost their minds when they found out these counts had been kidnapping their children and selling them so they could earn money and fund the arrogant lifestyles they are enjoying. Absolutely disgusting!
They were appalled so much that they totally ruined those counts’ properties and everything they had built so far.
According to the gossip roaming around, their families had moved out states to hide away from people chasing them down for revenge as the grieving parents did not have anything more to lose. Their life had become all just about taking revenge since they now have no way to save their children.
Felix didn’t really know what to feel.
It felt wrong to go after their wives and kids. Specially the kids...They might have no idea their fathers were like that and they were as innocent as those kids who had gone through that terrible experience.
But he wouldn’t judge the parents as the pain of losing their children to some disgusting business must be hard to endure. He would go crazy if he lost Anne too. He kind of understood what makes those commoners lose their minds.
But the counts are the ones to be blamed for all their pain.
Would he go and take revenge on the kids of the culprits?
He might never do that.
So, somehow, his logic leads him to think Anne was also just like those commoners. She might be in pain and despair too to find out Felix had to go through the same.
She started her revenge before she was kidnapped by them so it’s only logical what she said before is right.
The revenge is for him.
While she could be compared to the commoners, Felix still felt Anne shouldn’t have done whatever she did.
If he looked at it, Anne was better than the parents who go after the counts’ families who could be innocent since Anne only attacked the counts even though it will eventually affect his families.
While Anne’s action could be understood and justified from one perspective, it was still wrong in another perspective.
With Anne killing the counts, those who were killed by Anne and their families were let out from the grieving and furious commoners. Actually, the families of the counts who were killed by Anne are still safe unlike the families now suffering with them getting exposed.
Still, the children of the counts who were killed by Anne who supposedly ’disappeared’ must be wondering why their fathers suddenly disappeared...
What if one day, they also want revenge like Anne wanted?
Would they ever grow up happily or full of hatred and suspicions as to why and how their fathers disappeared?
And, it was not like those kids wouldn’t ever find out the truth about their fathers’ dissppearances. Because no matter how much money he gave away, they can’t keep those people’s mouths shut forever. One day, the truth might get out and he will have to face the reality and the victims.
Felix knew he was on the wrong side.
Bcause, his sister was wrong.
It was obviously not her thing to punish those counts when he himself just wanted to leave them alone since according to her, the revenge was all for him.
Even if those were bad people, he still couldn’t give the credit to Anne for killing them and dirting her hands with blood.
No matter what, she was a murderer. She had taken lives. He let her continue her behaviour...
He was naive.
He felt guilty to hate Anne because of Anne’s words about her doing it for him.
Despite wanting to hate her for her actions, he held himself back because she was important to him.
He was selfish.
He didn’t take the harsh steps but just begged her like a coward.
He hated himself for that.
Even though Anne said things were over, this never ends.
He still feels upset about everything.
And now...rather than upset, he feels guilty she did all this to ’repay him’ because now he kind of understands why she felt pressured to do so.
It was all so messed up that Felix himself realised how mad he himself was.
He was selfish, self centred.
He only cared about Anne’s safety when she was doing all those things. Rather than safety he should have focused on disciplining her and teaching her or at least stopping her.
It still makes him feel down to recall how much of a cruel person her sister used to be or might be on another day in future. And the fact he turned a blind eye to everything by not stepping up made him even more upset.
So, he was also just as cruel as her. But...he might not be as forgiving as that in the future because as he declared, this is indeed the last chance for her. And the last time he will be soft hearted when it comes to a situation as serious as this.
It was sick.
He was crazy too... How could he fail to control a child?
It was bullshit.
He was as bad as Anne when it came to all these.
One day...
Both he and she will get karma.
And, he would gladly accept it.
’Ha...what a way to start my day. I am already feeling upset.’
Felix did not know why he thought so far about that early in the morning on his way to the office. Maybe because he was thinking about the counts’ beheading event that was done yesterday.
Haa...
However, after some time, Felix was in a not so bad mood as he forgot about everything else since he was focused on his work and the messy table after.
"Would you like to join me for an evening tea?"
Anne came to see him around lunch time and asked him innocently. Felix had no reason to refuse so he agreed and Anne soon left, happily smiling.
In a disappointing way, seeing Anne again, Felix was back in his morning bad mood again.
How did he become such a failure and let this child go wild like that?
It was all his fault.
All. his. fault.
’I need a break.’
Felix left his office room and walked to the garden where the cold wind always made him feel relaxed. Whenever he felt overwhelmed, it was always this garden or his bedroom he prefered to spend some time at.
Most of the time, it was his room as he feels comfortable being alone and away from others when he might see servants wandering around the garden, to avoid working or to spend their free time.
Thankfully, no one was there at that time so he, with a sullen expression like a lonely person that has no hope, sat under the big tree and leaned on it, feeling the wind.
’Sigh...’
It was so peaceful.
Felix closed his eyes for a moment and unknowingly fell asleep. He doesn’t really sleep like this. It was surprising for him too when he woke in the evening. He was confused as to how he ended up there.
He was even more confused when he felt something heavy on his lap. As he recalled, he didn’t bring anything. He came there empty handed when he wanted a break to calm down.
He looked down and saw a big black cat sleeping on his lap, all cuddled up, seemingly comfortable and satisfied.
"Hey... Where do you come from?"
Felix tapped on the cat but was taken back when the cat rolled and stretched his body, exposing its belly to him.
Felix tried his best to resist from rubbing its belly but lost it in the end.
He gently rubbed its belly and was happy how calm the cat was.
But then, he recalled he promised Anne for a tea time at the evening.
He had already slept enough so he might be already late.
He got up to leave but the cat, seemingly hating to be alone, blocked Felix’s way and rolled there.
Felix couldn’t help but chuckle a little.
’"Okay, let’s go together then."
Felix picked up the cat, the cat laying on his arm, he walked inside, feeling a sense of happiness like a child.
Who cares...
It’s been a long time since he even had an animal come closer to him.
Seeing the cat letting him even hold it, it felt really weird.
Has he finally grown out of his scary aura?
Do animals finally see him as a non threatening person?
Who knows...
"Anne will love it..."
Felix rubbed the cat’s head and straight headed toward the place where they promised.
The balcony on the second floor.
The best place to relax and have tea.
"Aaaah! So cute!"
Anne immediately picked up the cat as soon as Felix came there, gently petting it.
’It’s good she is gentle with it.’
Felix silently sipped on his tea as he watched the cat taking all her attention and her not even bothering to taste her favourite sweets.
So food is not her priority all the time, huh?
’By the way, where did this cat come from? I should ask Mary if it had been around the garden for a long time...’
