Chapter 27: My Online Game Wife Can’t Possibly Be a Girl

“Is this hinting that I’ll have to fight desperately in the future?” Luo Yun’s lips twitched. Then, he chuckled. As long as it was for the safety of those around him, what did it matter if he had to fight hard? He tucked the Xian Dou into his personal inventory, noticing changes in his body. His strength had grown, and his agility and reaction speed had improved. If he kept steadily building like this, his resources would only increase, wouldn’t they? But now wasn’t the time to think long-term. Splash—! Luo Yun, done with his bath, stood up from the tub. After drying off, he changed into pyjamas and left the bathroom. Passing through the living room, he saw the lights still on, the TV playing entertainment news, but Nangong Nayue, lying on the sofa, was fast asleep. “Really, never making things easy.” Luo Yun walked over helplessly. Her ink-black hair was pressed beneath her, framing her delicate face. Her small hands rested on the sofa, her breathing steady. Such a grown woman, yet she didn’t know how to take care of herself. In her quiet state, Nangong Nayue was utterly adorable, devoid of her usual mature aura. She was more like a genuine, delicate little girl. Luo Yun turned off the noisy TV and gently picked Nayue up. She was remarkably light, feeling no different from holding a doll. In that moment, Nayue seemed like his little sister. Luo Yun couldn’t help but smile. Crossing the bright living room, he entered Nayue’s bedroom, using his elbow to turn on the lamp, then gently placed her on the bed and covered her with a blanket. “Good night.” As Luo Yun left and closed the door, in the dim light, he didn’t notice the fleeting blush and sly look on Nangong Nayue’s face. But soon, a faint smile curved her lips, and she rolled over, continuing to sleep. Luo Yun turned off the living room lights, tidied up what needed tidying, and returned to his bedroom. The night’s activities were just beginning. It was a rare weekend with no need to sleep early, so naturally, he had to play a few rounds of games. Luo Yun wasn’t some strait-laced top student. Though his grades were decent, he wasn’t some old-fashioned relic. He booted up the computer, adjusted his chair and mouse, and clicked the game icon in one smooth motion. As the slow loading screen appeared, Luo Yun suddenly thought of the few online friends he’d met in the game’s guild. “I hope they don’t blame me for being offline so long.” He gave a wry smile. In past game guilds, a few days offline would get you kicked without discussion. But this guild was alright. He entered his username and password, then logged in. Luo Yun’s screen soon displayed a modern online game, similar in style and theme to Final Fantasy, but perhaps due to this world’s advanced technology, the graphics were impressive. Plus, after the war, with industries rebuilding, the entertainment sector had boomed, which was why Luo Yun’s adapted Sword Art Online light novel sold so well. Since he hadn’t logged in for days, Luo Yun first went to the settings to reacquaint himself with the controls. But soon, he noticed a message in the bottom-left corner of his private inbox. He moved the mouse and clicked. Yuzuki Ako: You’re finally online (^^)! Yuzuki Ako: This isn’t guild chat—it’s a direct heart-to-heart with you! Even though you’ve been offline for so long, Ako still really likes you. Luo Yun felt a bit helpless. This girl, screen name Yuzuki Ako, was someone he met shortly after starting the game. Back then, no one wanted to team up with her clumsy priest, so, feeling sorry for her, he, playing a swordsman, helped the newbie out a bit. And then… things spiralled out of control. It was just casual mentoring, but he earned the newbie’s overwhelming affection. Since then, nearly every three sentences were about being boyfriend and girlfriend, her self-talk so intense it left Luo Yun in awe. He explained himself plenty at first, but she still misinterpreted him, sticking to him as always. Over time, Luo Yun just let her do her thing. He didn’t mind being seen as her boyfriend. The game was about to launch a marriage system anyway, with stat boosts and extra rewards. But Luo Yun didn’t take it seriously. Who knew if the person playing was some overweight shut-in? “I had a lot of exams at school these past few days, and you know how it is.” After typing that out. “No more talk—let’s hit the dungeon. Clear the piled-up quests first.” Yuzuki Ako: Sure, sure, I’ll follow your lead. For the next few hours, Luo Yun completed the main storyline with her, tackling side quests and event missions before they both logged off. Meanwhile, in an apartment on another side of Genkami Island, a black-haired girl sat at her computer, her eyebrows arched, a glimmer of delight sparkling in her deep blue eyes, looking utterly thrilled. “Wahhh…” She hugged a pillow, rolling back and forth on her bed like a joyful puppy. The next morning, waking up later than usual, Luo Yun passed through the living room. Nangong Nayue, as always, sipped red tea while watching the morning news. The TV screen was lively, showing what seemed to be a company’s press conference,
