Chapter 98: Chapter 098: His Slow Reaction
"Yes."
Chen Cang nodded, his face gloomy as he walked toward the dining table where Tang Ming was seated and said, "Tang Ming, I even bought you such expensive Lingzhi, but you gave me a switcheroo. You’re not being honest."
"Switched? Isn’t it all in this plastic bag?"
Tang Ming pointed to the plastic bag and said.
"In here?"
Chen Cang was quick and snatched a piece of Lingzhi from Tang Ming’s hand, only to let out a terrible scream.
He released the Lingzhi and looked at his hand in agony, his palm that had grabbed the Lingzhi was already rotting away, bubbling with a sizzling noise, and the white bones beneath the flesh were visible.
"Ah, my stomach hurts so bad... I’m dying!"
Tang Ming also roared, then collapsed onto the dining table, foam spilling from his mouth, looking every bit the part of someone poisoned.
Chen Cang, covering his poisoned and rotting hand, cursed after seeing Tang Ming’s reaction to the poison, "Damn it, what’s this all about? The kid didn’t show symptoms right away but rather too slowly. I just touched it for nothing."
"Brother Cang, stop talking and quickly wash it off with water, then let’s go to the hospital."
Monkey supported Chen Cang as he ran toward the washbasin to quickly rinse the poison off his hand. Then, a group of people hurriedly took Chen Cang to the hospital.
Zhou Dafu was furious and yelled, "A bunch of bastards, all you know is to send the dying fly to the hospital, my brother Ming is poisoned too."
After the scolding, the other students didn’t know what happened, and while they watched curiously, not a single one stepped forward to help.
The hefty guy was in a panic, hurriedly lifted Tang Ming onto his back, and then ran straight out of the cafeteria towards the school gate.
At the school gate, the hefty guy, huffing and puffing, was caught off guard when Tang Ming on his back stirred and slid down.
Fearing that Tang Ming would fall, Zhou Dafu quickly turned around, only to find that Tang Ming was lively and well, standing behind him without a single issue.
"Brother Ming... you’re alright?"
Zhou Dafu asked in complete bewilderment.
"Of course, I’m fine. I was just fooling those idiots,"
Tang Ming said with a smile:
"Since there’s nothing wrong now, and I don’t want to go to class, let’s eat something. I haven’t eaten my fill yet!"
"How about the snack street?"
Zhou Dafu eagerly said, rubbing his hands. He actually wanted to check on Xia Wei’er.
Tang Ming nodded, "Alright, let’s go to the snack street."
The two entered the snack street and the hefty guy headed straight for the cold drink store run by Xia Wei’er’s family, wanting to eat ice cream.
"Brother Ming, shall we have ice cream together?"
After thinking for a bit, since Xia Wei’er didn’t feel any affection for him, Tang Ming didn’t want to see her sulky face, so he shook his head, "You go have it. I’ll eat something at the spicy hot pot stall upfront. I didn’t get my fill last time, so this time, I’ve got to eat enough before going back."
"Oh, then come to the cold drink store to find me once you’ve eaten your fill."
Zhou Dafu didn’t persist.
Tang Ming nodded and walked toward the spicy hot pot stall ahead. He sat down in the shop and wasn’t there long before the owner started to feel distressed. This guy ate way too much; he quickly finished a whole plate of food, and the owner secretly calculated that Tang Ming had already eaten way beyond what he was supposed to pay.
"I thought Snack Street was just for tourists, who would have a few skewers of spicy hot pot and be done, but who knew there was a glutton like this who could eat so much?"
The owner sighed, feeling like crying on the inside.
In the ice-cream parlor, when Wei’er saw the fatso walk in alone without Tang Ming, her face finally relaxed a bit and she asked, "Skipping class to eat ice-cream? You sure have some nerve, fatty."
"Aren’t you doing the same?"
The fatso said with a smile.
Wei’er argued with her lips pouted, "The afternoon class is something I’ve already reviewed, so the teacher said I don’t have to go. Of course I can leave school. On the other hand, if you don’t study properly, how could you possibly get into university?"
The fatso smiled indifferently. In fact, his family had already arranged everything for him. He was definitely going to university, and not just any, but a top one in the country. But saying this now would only make Wei’er dislike him more, thinking he was showing off because he was rich.
The fatso was eating his ice-cream, while Wei’er was wiping things down at the bar. Suddenly, a group of people charged in, every one of them furious and burly, obviously not the good sort.
"The mafia?"
As soon as the fatso saw the attire of the group, he instantly thought of a word.
The leader, a big man in his thirties with a cigarette in his mouth, wearing a black vest and large sunglasses, cursed, "Shit, this is the place."
No sooner had he spoken than he kicked out, toppling the cash register and causing Wei’er, who was behind it, to turn pale with fright and quickly dodge out of the way.
"Who the hell are you people to come here and make trouble? I’m calling the police."
Wei’er cried out in fear upon seeing the group of men.
The lead thug sneered, "Little girl, go ahead and call the cops. By the time they arrive, we’ll have already run off, and once they leave, we’ll come back. Let’s see if you can still run your business every day! You’re the one inciting those slum residents to unite and resist our demolition, aren’t you?"
"I... didn’t."
Wei’er, seeing the malicious intent, immediately shook her head, not daring to admit anything hastily.
Wei’er’s mother ran out from the inner room, her face pale with fear. The shantytown where they lived had been selected for real estate development, and the compensation offered by the developers for relocation was extremely low. These ordinary people, not understanding the law, turned to Wei’er, who was knowledgeable, for legal advice.
Without much thought, Wei’er enthusiastically helped them gather information and even called relevant departments for details about compensation regulations. She then told everyone to stand their ground and negotiate unitedly with the developer to fight for the best benefits.
Who could have known that the developer would somehow get wind of this, and now her family was in huge trouble.
"Please, don’t smash things up."
Wei’er’s mother begged the group.
"Shit, think you’ve got culture just because you studied a bit? Telling you not to meddle."
The lead thug waved his hand and ordered, "Keep smashing."
Zhou Youfu was enjoying his ice-cream when the shop suddenly erupted into chaos, and Wei’er and her mother were completely helpless. He instantly stood up and yelled, "Stop it, don’t smash anything."
After saying this, the fatso became scared. The opposition was numerous and strong, and they all looked like trouble, possibly even carrying weapons. Interfering so boldly could easily get him killed, but the thought of helping Wei’er made him refuse to back down.
"Oy, who the fuck are you to meddle?"
The lead thug looked menacingly at the fatso.
A staredown from the man made the fatso immediately scared, and in his panic, he quickly said, "It doesn’t matter who I am, but you definitely can’t afford to mess with my boss!"
