My Co-renting Lady Boss -
Chapter 51 - 0051: My Dad is Waiting for You
Chapter 51: Chapter 0051: My Dad is Waiting for You
Liu Bureau pointed at the documents on the table and asked sternly, "Was it you who released Tang Ming? Do you realize he doesn’t meet the conditions for release or bail? How could you dare release such a suspect? Have you lost your mind?"
"Liu Bureau, you need to hear me out on this,"
Zhou Dahai was about to explain but then looked at Lin Xue standing there and said, "Lin Xue, you go out and wait."
"Why can’t I listen?"
Lin Xue challenged defiantly.
"Follow orders,"
Zhou Dahai shouted.
Liu Bureau also sensed there was more to the story, so he said, "Lin Xue, you go out for a while, I’ll hear Zhou Dahai’s explanation."
After Lin Xue left the office, Zhou Dahai then said, "Liu Bureau, it wasn’t me who wanted to release him; it was Lin Canghai who wanted to release him."
"Lin Canghai? Who is that?"
Liu Bureau frowned and asked; he didn’t recall any senior leader by that name.
Zhou Dahai took out the handover procedures he had, placed them in front of Liu Bureau who, after examining them a few times, exclaimed in surprise, "So it was someone from this department carrying out a mission; we must indeed cooperate properly."
"Yes,"
Zhou Dahai nodded and said, "Liu Bureau, now that I’ve cleared up this misunderstanding, may I go now?"
"Off you go, lad,"
Liu Bureau said with a smile, relieved that there was no black sheep in the bureau, which made his job as bureau chief more comfortable.
After Zhou Dahai left, Lin Xue quickly entered the room and asked anxiously, "Liu Bureau, why did Zhou leave?"
"All right, Lin Xue, you reported to me without fully investigating the matter; isn’t that too rash?"
Liu Bureau reproached, "In the future, you could first talk to your instructor or communicate well with Captain Zhou!"
"But Liu Bureau, concerning the suspect being released, there indeed was something wrong on Zhou’s part,"
Lin Xue said, her face reddening with emotion.
"Enough, don’t worry about it anymore. It’s good to be diligent in your work, but don’t speculate wildly. Go back to your duties and let this matter be,"
Liu Bureau said bluntly, "Dismissed, and next time, consult your instructor about any issues."
"Oh,"
Lin Xue, reprimanded, stormed out of the office.
Once she was in the hallway, she felt wronged. She had merely wanted to catch a criminal, so why did it seem like the criminal was being protected instead?
"Tang Ming! You must be the culprit, using some trick to pressure our bureau into not making a move against you, but rest assured, I will eventually put you behind bars,"
Lin Xue fumed internally.
As Tang Ming headed back to the school, he kept sneezing, wondering who could be obsessing over him.
Tang Ming had been taken away in a car, but he had to walk back to school. The distance was great, even crossing a major river in the middle. Worrying about the taxi fare, Tang Ming chose to walk back to the school, and by the time he got back and was leisurely watching the sunset, it was almost school out. Zhou Youfu turned to him and asked,
"Ming, you’re getting arrested by the police every day, annoying isn’t it?"
"Very annoying, I tremble at the sight of police now, and I haven’t broken any laws, I don’t know why they keep summoning me."
Tang Ming said through gritted teeth,
"But it’s all because of that detestable policewoman. That girl has a grudge against me, always giving me trouble. I wonder if it’s her time of the month, making her so irritable."
"Cough, cough."
Just then, a cough rang out. Zhou Youfu and Tang Ming turned their heads to find Liu Mengting, holding a bag and approaching with an icy expression.
Zhou Youfu was a bit scared and patted Tang Ming on the shoulder, saying, "Ming, I’m going home first."
After the chubby fellow scurried away, Liu Mengting walked directly over and looked at Tang Ming, asking, "Was everything alright at the police station?"
"No issues, I wasn’t hit or yelled at. They just asked me about yesterday’s incident a few times,"
Tang Ming said with a smile.
Liu Mengting gave a sound of acknowledgment, then said, "My dad called, he’s waiting for you at the villa. Let’s head back early."
"Alright."
Tang Ming also wanted to talk to Liu Gaoze about the matter of the Chou Family planning to kidnap Liu Mengting. As for who it was, surely his father would know best.
The two left the school, and the driver had already been waiting at the school gate. Nearby, Li Xiaoli, wearing headphones and listening to music, stood in a floral mini-skirt that showed off her long, pale legs, sporting high-heeled sandals, and a butterfly clip in her jet-black hair, looking like a character straight out of a comic book.
"Meng Meng sister, come on, get in the car."
Li Xiaoli turned her head and saw Liu Mengting. Suddenly, when she spotted Tang Ming following behind, her mouth dropped open in surprise.
Liu Mengting asked curiously, "What are you staring at, girl? Aren’t you getting in the car?"
"No, how is Tang Ming out already?"
Li Xiaoli exclaimed, "Wasn’t he supposed to be detained for 48 hours?"
"Get in the car. Tang Ming was released because he was found innocent; there was no evidence. It’s your fault for being so greedy and rushing to the snack street for ice cream, missing the time he returned. You didn’t see him back in class!"
Liu Mengting dragged Li Xiaoli into the car, and Tang Ming, not wanting to talk much, took the seat next to the driver.
All the way, Tang Ming kept silent, leaving Li Xiaoli and Liu Mengting to chat behind him. He had made up his mind not to explain much; it was enough to say he was released by the police without evidence.
Upon reaching the villa, the butler, Uncle Quan, promptly took Tang Ming alone to the study.
Li Xiaoli, with her arms around Liu Mengting’s, said in a delicate voice, "Meng Meng sister, did your dad pull some strings to get Tang Ming out?"
"Enough, don’t ask anymore. I’m not very clear on it either. Come upstairs with me; we’ll come down for dinner in a bit."
Seeing that Tang Ming was alright, Liu Mengting felt relieved and her mood improved greatly.
"Oh."
Li Xiaoli, still puzzled, followed Liu Mengting upstairs.
In the study, Liu Gaoze sat on a leather sofa with two cups of herbal tea next to him, a cigarette between his fingers.
When Tang Ming entered, Liu Gaoze gestured for him to sit down, then pushed one of the teas towards him.
"Uncle, you still smoke?"
Tang Ming said cheerfully, "I’ve never seen you smoke before?"
"Heh, I’m not in great health, and Mengting keeps a tight watch, so I, this old smoker, only dare to sneak a smoke when I’m hiding from her. If she catches me smoking, I’ll never hear the end of it."
Liu Gaoze said with a light smile, "Tang Ming, I owe you thanks for this time."
"Protecting the young lady is my duty, my job, so there’s no need for thanks,"
Tang Ming asked seriously, "But do you know who was behind this kidnapping?"
"I really don’t know who it might be. After so many years in business, I’ve offended many people. I can’t remember all of them, and it might also be someone from the other Songlan business families. It’s been really troubling. I called you here mainly to remind you to keep a close watch on Meng Ting. She’s a girl with no capability to protect herself. You must ensure her safety. I’m counting on you!"
Liu Gaoze said with a worried tone.
