Chapter 50: Chapter 0050: Lin Xue Complains

In the office, after reviewing some documents for a while, Captain Zhou picked up his phone and made a call. After connecting, he politely started the conversation,

"Commander Lin, I have a matter to report to you."

"Captain Zhou? Go ahead."

Lin Canghai’s indifferent voice came through.

Captain Zhou said, "The Tang Ming you mentioned recently got involved in another case, two people died. Do you think you should come over and take a look?"

"Oh? Two people died, you wait, I’m coming over now!"

Lin Canghai hung up the phone and then set off for the police station.

Looking at the time, Captain Zhou thought that if Commander Lin arrived shortly, he could still invite him for a meal to foster relations, which was the really important matter. For some special cases in the future, he could directly ask for help from Lin Canghai’s department, which would significantly reduce his own pressures.

Twenty minutes later, the door swung open, standing at the doorway was none other than Lin Canghai.

Captain Zhou quickly stood up and said, "Commander Lin, please come in."

"No need for formalities, I’m here to look into the case."

Lin Canghai entered the office and nodded slightly.

"The information about the two deceased is all here."

Captain Zhou picked up a document from the desk and handed it over with a smile.

Lin Canghai opened it and began flipping through the pages, asking, "Did you find any background information?"

"It’s a total blank, they didn’t have any identification on them, we are still tracing it,"

sighed Captain Zhou.

Lin Canghai looked at the faces of the two deceased and the tattoos on their bodies, slightly taken aback, he fell silent for a moment then said, "I think these two might be international fugitives."

"Oh? Really?"

Captain Zhou’s heart skipped a beat as he muttered silently.

"I’ll check."

Lin Canghai took out his phone, snapped photos of the two dead bodies, and sent them off. A few minutes later, he received a reply.

"Indeed, they’re international fugitives. I will now officially take over this case. Your patrol team is responsible for cooperating with me, and keep the case confidential for now,"

Lin Canghai instructed as he put away his phone.

"Yes, yes, we’ll make sure it is kept confidential."

Captain Zhou smiled, "Commander Lin, it’s about time for a meal, why don’t we eat something nearby?"

Lin Canghai was about to decline, but considering he would be staying in Songlan City for a while and there would be many interactions between the two departments, and though Captain Zhou’s team was obligated to cooperate by regulation, being entirely unaccommodating might not bode well in the future, so he nodded and said,

"Sure, after lunch, I’ll need you to take me to handle the formalities to take the bodies away."

"No problem."

Captain Zhou smiled with excitement and opened the office door saying, "Commander Lin, this way please."

Lin Canghai walked out of the room with a smile, with Captain Zhou attentively following him.

In the patrol team’s office, Lin Xue felt increasingly uneasy. Not only had Captain Zhou inexplicably stopped her from investigating the case, but he also released the suspect Tang Ming. It just didn’t make any sense.

Could it be that Captain Zhou had been bribed by Tang Ming? Considering the Liu family, where Liu Mengting’s family lived, was a top business dynasty in Songlan City, the more Lin Xue thought about it, the more she felt her guess was correct.

"Lin Xue, are you going to the cafeteria for lunch? We’ve been busy all morning."

A younger police officer came over and asked.

"No, you guys go ahead."

Lin Xue was too upset to feel like eating. She continued to look through the files while drinking coffee. According to the information, Tang Ming was still the prime suspect, but now that he had been released, she could not find new evidence immediately. How was she to arrest him?

"No, I must tell the chief. If Captain Zhou has taken bribes, we might never catch Tang Ming in the future."

Lin Xue struggled in the office for a long time before finally making a tough decision to expose Captain Zhou and not let him hinder the capture of the criminal.

It was after 2 pm when the chief returned from a meeting in the city. Seeing the chief’s car from the office window, Lin Xue quickly grabbed her documents and hurried to the chief’s office on the fourth floor.

Outside the chief’s office, there was an assistant, with several police officers ready to respond to emergencies nearby.

Lin Xue arrived with the files and went directly to the assistant’s desk.

Seeing Lin Xue approaching, the assistant instinctively asked, "Is there something you need?"

"Patrol officer Lin Xue wishes to see the chief. I have an important matter to report,"

Lin Xue said.

The assistant checked her police badge, asked a few quick questions, then picked up the desk phone and made a call.

"Chief, there is an officer Lin from the patrol team here to see you about a case,"

the female assistant said, then nodded her head.

After hanging up the phone, the female assistant smiled and said,

"Officer Lin, the chief happens to be free now. You can go in."

"Yes, thank you."

Lin Xue quickly thanked her, then pushed open the office door and walked in.

The chief’s office was very tidy and simply yet elegantly furnished. Lin Xue closed the door, stood at attention, and said, "Patrol Team Lin Xue reporting."

"Yes, what is it you need to report?"

The chief put down the document he was holding, looked up, and asked.

"Chief, we recently were investigating a murder case, but due to Captain Zhou’s interference, the suspect has been released. According to police regulations, this suspect did not meet the bail conditions at all and should not have been released arbitrarily,"

Lin Xue put down the case files and began.

"Oh?"

The chief perked up, showing interest, opened the file, and began to read carefully as Lin Xue explained some points while standing in front of the desk.

After a moment, the chief closed the file and said, "Although there’s no direct evidence linking Tang Ming to the deaths of the two victims, according to the evidence we currently have, the suspect indeed has no right to bail, much less to be released. What was Zhou Dahai thinking, making such a mess this time?"

"Chief, should I go and bring Tang Ming back? I’m worried he might flee and then we’ll lose our chance to catch him,"

Lin Xue said urgently.

"Hold off for now. I’ll call Zhou Dahai over and get the details from him first,"

the chief said, picking up the desk phone and saying, "Get me Zhou Dahai in the office."

At that moment, Zhou Dahai was handling the handover formalities with Lin Canghai, and the two bodies had already been moved.

After finishing everything, Zhou Dahai returned to his office with the procedure documents, and just as he reached the door, a police officer stopped him, "Captain Zhou, the chief’s assistant called just now. She said you need to come over immediately."

"What does he want with me?"

Zhou Dahai asked.

"Don’t know, but it seems urgent,"

the officer replied.

Zhou Dahai nodded, didn’t even bother to put down the documents, and hurried upstairs. He soon entered the chief’s office.

Seeing Lin Xue still in the room, Zhou Dahai immediately understood that the girl had come to report his misconduct.

"Chief Liu, did you call for me? Is there anything you need?"

Zhou Dahai asked with a smile.
