Chapter 138: Chapter 0138: Terminal Illness Exhibition Hall
Chen Shuang’er nodded, but her eyes were filled with doubts. She felt that Tang Ming was incredibly capable, not only able to scare Brother Huo but also knew how to treat diseases and even prescribe medicine, seemingly omnipotent.
"Accompanying Wei’er back to the slum area, he previously denied being Wei’er’s boyfriend. I don’t believe that for a second."
Chen Shuang’er muttered to herself, clearly already considering Tang Ming as Xia Wei’er’s boyfriend, just a bit shy about admitting it.
As the trio walked, they reached the far end of the slum area near an old house close to the mountain.
Chen Shuang’er pointed to one of the two-story old houses and said, "That’s my house, do you guys want to come in and sit for a while?"
"Of course we’re coming in. I haven’t seen Fei’er in a long time. I definitely need to stop by and say hello."
Xia Wei’er said with a smile.
The three of them walked into the yard, and Chen Shuang’er loudly called out towards the house, "Fei’er, your sister is back!"
"Sister, how come you’re back so soon?"
A girl’s joyful voice echoed from inside the house.
"Nothing much. There was a bit of an accident so I came back first. Your sister Wei’er also came to see you."
Chen Shuang’er spoke, and while glancing at Tang Ming and Xia Wei’er, she whispered, "Once we go inside, don’t mention the part about Brother Huo injuring me. Just say a rich person’s car scraped by me and they compensated me with some money."
"Hmm, I won’t let Fei’er worry."
Xia Wei’er nodded and Tang Ming also nodded in agreement.
The three of them reached the entrance of the bungalow. Chen Shuang’er fished out the keys from her pocket, Xia Wei’er took them over and opened the door, and Tang Ming peeked inside, finding it eerily dark and spooky.
Tang Ming stepped into the house first, followed closely by Xia Wei’er and Chen Shuang’er. In one of the darker areas inside the house, a frail girl in a wheelchair was typing on a computer. Upon seeing Tang Ming, a stranger, entering, she immediately shut off the computer screen and stared at Tang Ming with a guarded expression.
Accustomed to the dark environment, Tang Ming’s eyes adjusted, and he clearly saw the girl. She was very frail, with a typical oval face, long hair falling over her back, and a pale complexion devoid of any color, likely from staying in the dark for extended periods. The girl’s body seemed fragile, to the extent of needing a wheelchair.
Upon closer observation, she didn’t look exactly like Chen Shuang’er, but they were remarkably similar. If Tang Ming’s guess was right, they must be twins. The health problems of Chen Fei’er made their appearances increasingly disparate— one frail and pale, the other healthy and lively.
"Wei’er Sister, you’re here too."
Chen Fei’er, sitting in the wheelchair, shouted joyfully upon seeing Xia Wei’er.
Xia Wei’er helped Chen Shuang’er sit on the bed, then smilingly said, "Fei’er, I happened to meet your sister so I came to visit you. How have you been feeling lately?"
"The same as always."
As the topic of health arose, Chen Fei’er’s expression became somewhat melancholy, but she looked at Tang Ming and asked, "Wei’er Sister, who is he?"
"He’s my classmate, Tang Ming."
Xia Wei’er introduced him.
Tang Ming looked at Chen Fei’er and smiled, "Hello, my name is Tang Ming."
Chen Fei’er seemed a bit afraid of strangers and just nodded her head.
At that moment, Chen Shuang’er came over and sat down on a chair, and said, "Fei’er, you should thank Tang Ming. If it weren’t for him saving me, you wouldn’t be seeing your sister right now."
"Ah, Sister, are you alright?"
When Chen Fei’er saw her sister covered in sweat and unable to lift her arm, she was shocked and asked anxiously.
Chen Shuang’er shook her head and said, "It’s okay now, Tang Ming has already fixed my dislocated arm. I just need to rest a bit, and I’ll be fine."
"Who exactly hurt you? Did you go..."
Chen Fei’er knew some of her sister’s issues and immediately thought it might be her sister getting hurt by those bad people.
Chen Shuang’er hurriedly explained, "No, I had just left the slum area when a rich person’s car grazed me. Luckily, Tang Ming and Wei’er saw it happen. Not only was I fine, but the rich person also compensated me with some money. Don’t worry about it, Fei’er."
"Is that really so?"
Chen Fei’er was somewhat skeptical.
Chen Shuang’er said, "Why would I lie to you?"
Seeing a pen and paper near the computer desk, Tang Ming walked over, grabbed them, wrote down a prescription quickly, and handed it to Chen Shuang’er, saying, "Here’s the prescription I’ve written for you. Get some medicine to take and to apply. It shouldn’t take many days for you to recover."
"Thank you."
Chen Shuang’er expressed her thanks.
When Xia Wei’er saw Tang Ming writing the prescription, she thought for a moment and said, "Tang Ming, you can treat illnesses. Why not have a look at Fei’er too? Maybe your local remedies can actually cure her illness?"
"Local remedies?"
Tang Ming was a bit speechless. He hadn’t pursued a career as a doctor; otherwise, he would have been renowned throughout the land by now.
"Maybe not?"
Chen Fei’er, who was somewhat reluctant to mention her own illness, even more so to have it examined, especially by someone as young as Tang Ming, naturally found it hard to believe.
Chen Shuang’er was also intrigued and spoke quickly, "Fei’er, your sister Wei’er is right. Tang Ming is quite skilled. Let him have a look at you; it might help."
"Alright then."
Seeing even her sister insisting, Fei’er could only agree.
Tang Ming, who was skilled in medicine, took an interest in complicated and rare diseases. Seeing the strange and difficult nature of Chen Fei’er’s illness, he naturally wanted to see just how severe it was.
He approached Chen Fei’er, examined her eyes and tongue, and then took her pulse. After a few minutes, Tang Ming realized that Chen Fei’er had an unusual amount of health issues!
If one fatal disease is enough to be deadly, then Chen Fei’er’s body was like a showcase of lethal diseases, with various strange symptoms prominent in her, yet upon closer inspection, some differences could be seen.
It was precisely these differences that had kept her alive so far. However, with so many diseases inside, her immune system was extremely weak. Any accident could pose a great danger, and her skin had no resistance at all. Exposure to sunlight would burn her skin and even cause severe bodily harm.
For a girl with such a myriad of conditions to have survived this long, Tang Ming felt curious, but in the eyes of Chen Fei’er, he saw a determination!
In such harsh conditions, she had managed to fight for survival. Perhaps it was this will that had kept her alive until now.
"Have you gone to a hospital for a check-up? What did they say about the illness? Did the hospital provide any explanation?"
Tang Ming asked.
"I can’t remember the specifics, but according to the doctor, Fei’er has a congenital blood disorder. She must avoid sunlight, and even indoors, she needs a controlled temperature environment, so we have to keep the air conditioning on whenever there’s a change in temperature during summer or winter,"
Chen Shuang’er explained.
