My Co-renting Lady Boss -
Chapter 108: Unspoken Words
Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Unspoken Words
"Oh, that’s how it is; nurse, thanks for the trouble."
Wei’er’s mom said with gratitude.
After the nurse had hung the IV bag, she smiled and said, "It’s alright. Take good care of him, and remember to take him to the hospital if his condition worsens."
"Okay."
Wei’er’s mom knew her husband’s character well; he just wanted to save money for the family. After all, hospital expenses were huge and not something an ordinary family could afford. There were too many examples where treating an illness had ruined a happy family.
"Mom, we’ve lost our house. Where are we going to live now?"
Xia Wei’er asked with some concern as she looked at the ruins.
Wei’er’s mom thought for a moment and said, "Let’s go back and live in the shop. Let your father recover properly. We have money now, don’t we? Let’s see if we can buy the shop."
The chubby guy quickly said with concern, "Auntie, why don’t Ming and I take you back to Snack Street?"
"Thank you so much."
Wei’er’s mom said gratefully.
Then the group worked together to carry Xia Wenjun out of the shantytown. However, it was rare for people to hail taxis in the shantytown due to the living conditions; generally, taxis seldom roamed around here.
Yet when Tang Ming looked around, he spotted the taxi driver from before resting on the roadside. So, he casually walked over with a smile and suddenly slapped the hood of the car with a loud "bang."
"Who? Fuck, wish to die... gah!"
When the driver looked up and saw it was Tang Ming, noticing the obvious dent on the hood of his car, he was scared enough to plaster a smile on his face and said, "Big brother, what can I do for you?"
He inwardly cursed himself for taking a break when he had nothing to do—just a kick and if he’d rolled away he wouldn’t be in so much trouble now. It seemed like this guy was looking to settle scores and beat him up?
"Take us to Snack Street,"
Tang Ming said, "Is that a problem?"
"Ah, no problem at all, please get in the car!"
This driver’s vehicle was a seven-seater business van, and it was precisely because of the large space that the nurse did not choose another car but particularly chose this one.
This time, the driver provided service with a smile, personally helping Xia Wenjun into the vehicle and even closing the car doors for them.
"You’ve behaved well this time; I won’t beat you up," Tang Ming said.
"Thank you, thank you, big brother!"
The driver hurriedly said with a smile.
The driver demonstrated his utmost driving skill, steady and smooth, carefully avoiding even a manhole cover as they proceeded warily towards Snack Street.
When parking, he was even more careful to help them out of the car before cautiously asking, "Big brother, if there’s nothing else, can I go now?"
"Wait a minute!"
Tang Ming said.
"Ah? Is there anything else..."
The driver’s face was bitter, thinking that he had provided such quality service and still Tang might want to beat him up. Could he really bring himself to do that...
"I’ll pay the fare,"
Tang Ming said.
"Oh... no need, consider it compensation for my poor attitude earlier, I’m heading out now..."
The driver sighed with relief and quickly made himself scarce.
Inside the cold drinks shop, Tang Ming and the chubby guy settled Xia Wenjun comfortably, and Xia Wei’er’s mother brought out cold beverages for the two of them, saying, "Here, have something to drink, you must be exhausted."
"Auntie, it’s no trouble, we’re classmates with Xia Wei’er, helping out is no big deal."
The chubby guy said with a smile as he took the juice.
After taking a big gulp, Tang Ming said, "I think he still needs to be checked, if there’s a broken bone, that could be a problem."
Upon hearing this, Wei’er’s mother quickly said, "Right, he was pressed down by so many rocks and bricks, there might be an issue with his bones. Tang Ming, you know a lot, please help us out and give your uncle a thorough check-up."
"Auntie, relax, it’ll be fine."
Tang Ming went into the inner room and started examining Xia Wenjun, quickly discovering that he indeed had a broken bone. It seemed that after Xia Wenjun had gone to the hospital and thought he was fine, he didn’t get a proper check-up, otherwise the hospital wouldn’t have allowed him to be discharged.
Tang Ming was very skilled and set the broken bone in just a few movements. Then he said, "Auntie, get me a piece of paper. I’ll write down two prescriptions for you. Once you buy the medicines and brew them for uncle to drink, one of them will heal injuries. In a few days, he should have no major problems. But since uncle is weak, his previous issues require gradual treatment to improve. The other prescription needs to be taken over a long period of time!"
"Ah, thank you so much, Tang Ming."
Wei’er’s mother hurried to get paper and pen.
At that moment, the chubby guy expressed his surprise, "Tang Ming, you know Traditional Chinese Medicine?"
"Is there anything I don’t know?"
Tang Ming asked with a smile, earning the chubby guy’s unbridled admiration.
However, Xia Wei’er slightly furrowed her brow, also skeptical of how Tang Ming could possess medical skills.
But she couldn’t help but believe it—after her father was pulled from the rubble, he was barely alive, seemingly at death’s bed, yet Tang Ming merely massaged him for a bit, and her father no longer needed to stay at the hospital!
The prescription was quickly written out, and with time pressing on, Tang Ming and the chubby guy said their goodbyes and left the cold drinks shop.
At the doorstep, after a moment of hesitation, Xia Wei’er chased after them and said to the chubby guy, "Zhou Dafu, could you wait up front for a bit? I want to have a word with Tang Ming."
"Oh."
Zhou Dafu walked away somewhat dejected, but after thinking it over, he came to terms with it.
Xia Wei’er looked at Tang Ming with a myriad of emotions in her eyes—gratitude, admiration, and conflict. It was extremely complex.
"Tang Ming, thank you for helping my family so much. I’ll remember this kindness. Although I’m very grateful and aware of your feelings, we are still students, and I’m not really looking to have a boyfriend right now. But you helped my entire family, and I will find a way to repay you in the future."
Xia Wei’er gathered her courage and blurted it out in one breath.
Tang Ming chuckled, touched his nose and said, "Is that all?"
Xia Wei’er blushed and nodded. Tang Ming turned and walked away, saying, "Then I’m heading back."
Xia Wei’er thought Tang Ming might say some sweet nothings, because she still had something left unsaid, but unexpectedly, he left so casually, as if helping her family was no big deal, leaving her with words unspoken.
Could she have been mistaken? The absurd thought crossed Xia Wei’er’s mind, but was quickly dismissed. Why would he have helped her family without expecting some benefit or having some motive? Each time Tang Ming beat somebody up, he thought about obtaining benefits from those beaten. How could he possibly help her family without any reason?
However, she couldn’t bring up future matters, since Tang Ming hadn’t asked, and as a girl, she was even more reluctant to say anything.
Ma Gangjian tossed and turned in the hospital bed, infuriated that his own brother had written a check for ten million to compensate the evicted residents. He called the bank immediately and canceled the check.
