Qin Muchuan saw her unhappiness and provocative gaze. Glancing past her, he registered the presence of his long-time bodyguard.

Instantly, he understood the unspoken question in her eyes.

Qin Muchuan cast a glance at the two managers. "For now, proceed according to our discussion. I hope to see progress towards our objectives as soon as possible."

"Yes!"

"Yes!"

Both managers nodded hastily and took their leave.

"Mr. Qin!" the bodyguard turned to Qin Muchuan.

Qin Muchuan nodded with understanding. "I see. You may step out."

"Yes!" the bodyguard, expressionless, exited the room.

With a ’click’, the door closed.

Lin Xiangwan spun around, her glare at Qin Muchuan growing more intense. "Qin Muchuan, I never thought that your trust in me would be so limited, to the point of covert surveillance. You’re afraid I’ll cheat on you, aren’t you?"

Qin Muchuan stood up and leisurely made his way towards her, an easy smile on his face.

His gaze was clear and open. "What are you thinking? Why is your first thought surveillance rather than protection?"

"Don’t give me that!" Beyond the anger she felt, was profound sadness. "You clearly don’t trust me. No wonder you were instantly aware of my argument with Xu Feng’e and the hair salon I was at!"

She gave a cold laugh. "Do you mind telling me when you started implementing this surveillance?"

"I hadn’t before, only recently," responded Qin Muchuan.

He was lying, but he yearned to tell her the truth: that bodyguards had been assigned to her since their marriage. Not to mention, both he and their child constantly had bodyguards.

Following the recent bombing, he had increased the number of her bodyguards to four. How was he supposed to explain that?

Explaining would only reinforce her belief in his distrust.

"I don’t believe you!" Lin Xiangwan cried out. "Qin Muchuan, you’re treating me like a thief, as if I am fickle in love! You think there are many men around me, right? If you distrust me so much, why did you marry me?"

She was despondent. How could one speak of happiness or love in a marriage without trust?

She felt as though she had been heavily struck, deflating like a frost-bitten eggplant. "So your constant declarations of love and doting were but lies, not from the heart!"

Qin Muchuan shook his head and moved closer to her, reaching out with both hands.

"Don’t come near me!" She moved back, crying out frantically. "You’re not allowed to touch me! I won’t let you come near me anymore, you hypocrite!"

Confused by her series of actions, he didn’t know whether to laugh or be angry. "Calm down. How am I being hypocritical? Assigning you a bodyguard was out of my concern for your safety, I was worried about potential dangers."

His expression remained relaxed, not at all suspicious. His words carried such tenderness it gave Lin Xiangwan pause, making her begin to doubt her own interpretations. "I don’t believe it. You claim to protect me, but your real intention is surveillance. You have always been suspicious of what might be between Ji Sen and me."

"If I didn’t trust you at all, I wouldn’t have married you," replied Qin Muchuan seriously. "If I didn’t trust you, I wouldn’t be so devoted to you. Trust me, if I didn’t truly love you, I would be dating a group of celebrities at night!"

His words held truth. If he wanted any other woman, she couldn’t do anything about it. "..."

Seeing her fall silent, her emotions gradually leveling out, Qin Muchuan gently pinched her nose as a punishment, before drawing her into a bear hug. "What am I going to do with you, always being suspicious of me? You always claim that I don’t trust you, have you ever considered whether you trust me?"

"Then why didn’t you tell me about the bodyguards?" Lin Xiangwan confronted him discontentedly.

"These are all well-trained personnel. By not telling you about them, you can remain free and unguarded, while they protect you from unseen dangers without disrupting your normal activities. I believe this should not burden you in any way, right?" Qin Muchuan patiently explained.

Indeed, all this while, she had remained completely unaware.

"When, exactly, did you start assigning me bodyguards?" she asked.

"Promise you won’t get upset if I tell you!"

"Okay, go ahead!"

"They’ve actually been with you all along," admitted Qin Muchuan.

"Ahh..." Lin Xiangwan’s heart went icy cold, the realization that her every move had been under control all along was deeply humiliating.

Her face snow white, then flushed, she racked her brain to recall if she’d ever done anything unethical.

After ponderous deliberation, she felt that she had behaved just appropriatel.

"Heh..." Seeing her fretful expression, Qin Muchuan knew what she was worried about. "Relax, I really have no intention of spying on you. They don’t report to me daily about what you’ve been doing. Only under dangerous circumstances, they would inform me."

Qin Muchuan nodded in confirmation. "Exactly!"

Qin Muchuan pondered for a bit before replying. "I did request that my friends reopen the investigation."

Lin Xiangwan’s face burst into a smile. "I knew it was you! Then why didn’t you admit it before? Why deny you’d helped Ji Sen?"

Qin Muchuan arched an eyebrow, an exasperated look on his face. "Like I said before, Ji Sen saved himself. I just asked for a cautious re-investigation. But I made it clear Ji Sen wasn’t my friend and if he was indeed guilty, he should be treated as such. So, the true savior was Ji Sen himself!"

Lin Xiangwan balled her fists and punched his chest repeatedly, rage pouring out in words. "Why are you going around in circles? Why deny it when it’s clearly you? Why make me angry with you? Do you enjoy arguing that much?"
