Chapter 99: Chapter Ninety Nine

"Your Grace," a voice said, filled with a mixture of fear and defiance.

Ryan turned to see Davis, his eyes filled with a cold fury. He knew that Davis was trying to reason with him, to stop him from hurting Isabella. But Ryan was blinded by his anger and his desire for revenge.

"I don’t care," he said, his voice low and menacing. "She will pay for what her mother has done."

Davis hesitated, his heart pounding in his chest. He knew that Ryan was capable of anything, and he was afraid of what he might do.

"Please, Your Grace," he pleaded, his voice filled with desperation. "Think about the Duchess. She loves her sister. She would never forgive you if you hurt her."

Ryan hesitated, his mind racing. He knew that Suzy loved her sister more than anything in the world. If he hurt Isabella, he would lose her forever.

He lowered the whip, his hand trembling slightly. He had made his point, and he didn’t want to go any further.

"I will send an appeal to the King," he said, his voice filled with a cold fury. "He will hear about the injustice that has been done to my wife and investigate it."

Davis nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. He knew that Ryan was serious, and he was terrified of what the consequences might be.

Ryan stood up, his eyes filled with a cold, calculating hatred. "And I expect to see her in prison," he said, his voice dripping with venom. "Or worse, Executed."

"And if the King does nothing?" Davis asked, his voice filled with fear.

Ryan’s eyes narrowed. "Then I will take matters into my own hands," he said, his voice cold and calculating.

Davis nodded.

With that, he stood up and left the room, the guards following behind him. The Countess fainted on the spot, her body going limp.

Count Edmund rushed to her side, his face filled with horror. He knew that his wife was in trouble, and he was powerless to help her.

The room was filled with a tense silence, broken only by the sound of the Countess’s labored breathing. Davis stood there as he watched Count Edmund trying to revive his wife, he shook his head and left.

As Ryan left the manor, he could hear the Count’s voice echoing through the halls calling for assistance and for someone to fetch the doctor. He felt no remorse or sympathy because he knew that he had done the right thing. He had protected Suzy, and he had brought justice to those who had wronged her.

As he walked away, he could hear the sound of the carriage pulling up to the front of the manor. It was time to go home.

He finally got to the carriage, and climbed inside. As the carriage pulled away from the manor, Ryan turned to Davis. "I want you to send an appeal to the King," he ordered, his voice low and menacing. "Write to him about what happened to the duchess. Tell him about the injustice."

Davis nodded, his face pale. "I will do as you say, Your Grace," he replied, his voice filled with fear.

Ryan nodded, his eyes filled with a cold, calculating hatred. He had made his decision, and there was no turning back. He would see justice done, no matter the cost.

"And don’t tell the Duchess about what happened here," he added, his voice low and menacing. "I don’t want her to know anything about this."

Davis nodded.

As the carriage pulled away from the manor, Ryan looked out the window, watching the sun slowly descend below the horizon. He couldn’t believe that he had spent hours at Count Edmund’s manor, dealing with the fallout of the Countess’s actions.

He rested back in his chair, his anger beginning to subside. He was tired, both physically and emotionally. He closed his eyes, a smile playing on his lips. He had finished doing what he came here for.

Where’s Ryan?" Suzy asked Doris, her voice filled with curiosity.

Doris hesitated, her eyes darting around the room. "I don’t know," she replied, her voice low. "I saw him leaving with Davis in a hurry. He looked angry, just like the last time."

Suzy’s eyebrows furrowed. Something was definitely going on. "Do you know where they went?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.

Doris shook her head. "I don’t have any idea," she replied.

Suzy sighed, feeling a sense of unease.

Doris finished applying the ointment to Suzy’s back, her movements gentle and careful. "You’re healing quickly, Milady" she said, her voice filled with relief.

Suzy smiled. She was feeling much better, both physically and emotionally.

"I’m going to greet everyone in the castle," Suzy announced, her voice filled with determination.

Doris nodded. "That’s a good idea," she replied.

Suzy began her rounds, starting with Mr. Bradford, the butler. "Hello, Mr. Bradford," she said, her voice bright. "How are you?"

Mr. Bradford smiled, his face lighting up at the sight of her. "I’m well, thank you, Duchess," he replied.

Suzy continued her rounds, greeting Mrs. Madelyn, the head cook, Mary, the head maid, the gardener, the footman, and the stable boy. Everyone was delighted to see her, and they all had stories to tell.

Finally, Suzy reached the library. She hadn’t been there in a while, and she was surprised to see some changes. New bookshelves had been added, and the old ones had been rearranged.

She spotted Elias, the librarian, standing at the counter. He was giving instructions to a group of assistants.

"Elias," Suzy called out, her voice filled with excitement.

Elias turned, his eyes widening in surprise. "My lady Duchess," he exclaimed, his voice filled with joy. He hurried over to greet her, his face beaming with a smile.

"How are you?" Suzy asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

"I’m very well, thank you, Duchess," Elias replied. "It’s a pleasure to see you."

"Elias," Suzy asked, her voice filled with curiosity. "Why are there so many changes in the library?"

Elias smiled, his eyes twinkling with excitement. "It was the Duke’s idea," he replied. "He said that the library should be stocked with books that you enjoy."

Suzy was impressed. "That’s thoughtful of him," she said.

Elias nodded. "Indeed, it is," he replied. "Would you like a recommendation? I have a new book that I think you might enjoy."

Suzy’s eyes lit up. "Yes, please!" she exclaimed.

Elias reached for a book from the shelf. "This is a historical romance," he said, handing the book to Suzy. "It’s a new release, and I think you’ll like it."

Suzy took the book and glanced at the blurb. Her eyes widened in excitement. "That sounds interesting," she said.

With the book in hand, Suzy headed out to the garden. She found a secluded spot under a shady tree and settled down to read. She was so engrossed in the story that she didn’t even notice Doris approaching with a light snack.

Doris set the basket down on the ground and smiled at Suzy. "I thought you might be hungry," she said.

Suzy thanked Doris and continued reading, completely absorbed in the book. Hours passed, and she didn’t even notice the sun beginning to set. She was so engrossed in the story that she lost track of time.

Just as she was reaching the climax of the book, a piece of paper fell from between the pages. Intrigued, she picked it up and read the contents. Her face quickly turned from curiosity to shock, then to anger.

The letter contained information that was both disturbing and infuriating. She stood up abruptly, the book falling from her hands.

Without hesitation, she marched towards Ryan’s room, her steps filled with determination. She had to confront him, to demand answers.
