Chapter 92 - Ninety Two
Chapter 92: Chapter Ninety Two
As the carriage pulled up to the castle, a group of concerned faces awaited them. Davis, Doris, and Noah stood on the steps, their eyes filled with worry. Doris praying that everything is alright with her lady.
Ryan helped Suzy out of the carriage, his gaze sweeping across the group. He instructed Doris, "Call Dr. Abernathy immediately. You’ll need to take care of her."
Doris nodded, her face pale with concern as she moved forward to help Suzy inside the castle.
Turning to Noah, Ryan issued a curt order, "Meet me in the study. You have failed in your duty to protect the duchess. You have a punishment coming."
Noah bowed his head, his face a mask of resignation. "Of course, Your Grace," he replied.
Before Ryan could say anything else, Suzy broke free from his grasp. "If anyone is to be punished, it’s me," she declared, her voice firm. "I forced them to help me."
Ryan was taken aback by her sudden defiance. He opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out. He was caught off guard by her unexpected show of strength.
"After the doctor has seen to my injuries, I’ll be in your study for my punishment," she added, her voice unwavering.
Ryan was staring at her with surprise in his facial expression. He was speechless for a moment, trying to process her words.
Doris and Noah tried to intervene, but Suzy held up a hand to silence them.
Davis exchanged worried glances at them, but he didn’t interfere. He knew better than to get involved in an argument between the Duke and Duchess.
Suzy turned to Ryan, her eyes filled with a mixture of defiance and vulnerability. "I’ll be there," she promised. " so don’t punish others for my own reckless actions."
With that, she turned, taking Doris with her and walked towards the house, leaving Ryan and the others stunned.
Ryan’s mind was racing. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Suzy was taking responsibility for her actions, which is something he never thought she would do.
He turned to Davis. "Follow me, I have an assignment for you." He said, his voice low. There was much to discuss, and he needed some time alone to process everything that had happened.
Davis nodded and followed him into the castle to his study. As they walked down the hallway, Ryan couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss. The events of the past few hours had left him rattled, and he needed time to process everything that had happened.

As Suzy and Doris stepped into the bedroom, a wave of relief washed over Suzy. She was finally home, safe and sound.
"I’ll go get Dr. Abernathy," Doris said, her voice filled with concern. "You need to rest."
Suzy nodded, jumping into the soft cushions of her bed wincing as her body protested the movement. She needed to gather her thoughts and process everything that had happened.
She winced again as she tried to get off the bed, her body aching from the ordeal. She watched as Doris left the room, closing the door behind her.
Once alone, Suzy began to shed the sluty outfit she had to wear to blend in. She put Ryan’s coat aside for the maids to wash and take it back to him. The dress felt foreign against her skin, a constant reminder of the dangerous world she had just escaped. As she slipped out of the dress, she examined her body in the mirror. Her face was a little swollen and red from the slap and the bruises she thought were healing were worse than she had thought, a stark reminder of the violence she had endured at the count’s manor.
A wave of exhaustion washed over her. She needed to rest, to recover both physically and mentally.
She decided to take a bath, hoping the warm water would soothe her aching muscles. As she stepped into the bathroom, she began to wash herself, her movements slow and deliberate. She slipped into a luxurious nightgown, made of green silk and black lace. It was a garment she rarely wore since she bought it from the modiste store, but she felt it was appropriate for this moment.
With the nightgown on, she felt a sense of comfort and security. She tied her hair into a high ponytail to tame the fizzy curls, the movement causing a slight sting to her head. She looked at herself in the mirror, her reflection a pale and fragile image of the woman she had been just hours ago.
As she waited for Doris and Dr. Abernathy to return, she tried to relax, but her mind was racing. She knew that she was in the middle of something big. But she was determined to push through the pain. She had answers to find, and she wouldn’t let anything stop her. After she has recovered, she would go the gardener’s residence.
She smiled herself. Her ordeal hasn’t been in vain. She would find what happened to Cassandra later but not she needs to find if her mother is dead or alive and if she’s dead she needs to know how and who is responsible. That’s the least she can do for Cassandra as a thank you for offering her body so that her soul could occupy.
A few moments later, Dr. Abernathy entered the room, his face etched with concern. He examined Suzy’s injuries, his hands gentle as he assessed the damage.
"You’ve been through a lot," he said, his voice filled with sympathy. He handed Doris an ointment, instructing her on how to apply it. "This will help with the inflammation," he explained. "It should be applied every night." He also gave Doris a packet of tea bags, "This will help her relax and soothe her nerves."
Doris thanked the doctor, and he left the room.
Doris carefully applied the ointment to Suzy’s bruises, both back and face, her hands gentle. The cool sensation of the ointment provided some relief from the pain.
After applying the ointment, Doris prepared the tea. Suzy took a sip and was pleasantly surprised by the taste. It was calming and soothing, and she could feel the tension in her body beginning to ease.
As the effects of the ointment and tea began to take hold, Suzy felt a sense of peace wash over her. The pain was still there, but it was bearable now.
After a few moments, she stood up, her body feeling slightly stronger. She looked at the mirror, her face is back to normal. She let out a sigh of relief, she would have to wait for her back to be completely healed to move on to the next step but now she has something to do. "I am leaving, I’ll be back soon," she said, her voice firm.
Doris looked at her with concern. "Where are you going to, Milady?"
"I need to see him," Suzy said, referring to Ryan.
"Are you sure, Milady? You should rest," Doris said.
Suzy nodded, her determination unwavering. "I know what I have to do," she replied. " I have to face the consequences of my actions."
Doris hesitated, but knowing Suzy’s stubbornness, she didn’t argue. "Be careful," she said, her voice filled with concern.
With a heavy heart, she stepped aside, allowing Suzy to leave the room. As Suzy closed the door behind her, she took a deep breath, preparing herself for whatever lay ahead.
Suzy walked slowly through the hallway, her mind racing. What kind of punishment would Ryan give her? Would he confine her to her room, take away her privileges, would he take away her freedom, would he be more controlling, would he tell her to take Noah’s punishment instead as he may give her punishment according to the duchy’s guards rules or something far worse? The possibilities were endless, and none of them seemed pleasant.
She reached Ryan’s study door and knocked softly. Her heart pounded in her chest as she waited for a response. She took a deep breath and straightened her posture, preparing herself for whatever was to come.
