My Bratty Wife -
Chapter 91 - Ninety One
Chapter 91: Chapter Ninety One
As they stepped out of the building, the cold night air hit them in the face. Ryan pulled Suzy into a secluded area, away from the prying eyes of the people inside. His anger was palpable, and he needed a moment to calm down.
"What in heaven’s name were you doing here?" he demanded, his voice low and dangerous.
Suzy was taken aback by his anger. She tried to explain, but the words got caught in her throat. "I...I can explain," she stammered.
Ryan’s patience was wearing thin. "Explain," he demanded, his voice rising.
Suzy took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. "I was looking for someone," she said, her voice trembling slightly. "My research led me here."
Ryan’s anger intensified. "You were looking for someone in a place like this?" he asked, his disbelief evident.
Suzy nodded, her eyes filled with fear. "It was the only lead I had," she explained, her voice barely a whisper.
Ryan’s blood began to boil. "You’re in a pleasure house, Duchess," he said, his voice rising. "Do you have any idea what could have happened to you if Noah and I hadn’t come on time? What were you thinking?"
Suzy felt a pang of guilt. She knew she had been reckless, but she had been desperate for answers.
Ryan continued. "You could have been raped," he shouted, his voice echoing in the quiet street. "Do you have any idea where you are? This is a dangerous place."
"I know," she said, her voice low. "I tried to be careful. It’s fine I’m okay besides Noah was with me."
Ryan’s grip tightened around her wrist, his anger reaching its peak. " Cassandra!!!"
Suzy, her voice rising, said, "What? I said I’m fine, it’s nothing to get angry about. I made sure not to ruin your reputation, that’s why I dressed this way so that no one recognizes me."
Ryan’s anger was slowly replaced by concern. He knew she was right; he was overreacting. But the thought of her being hurt terrified him.
"Do you think I’m reacting this way because of my reputation?" he asked, his voice softer.
There was a moment of silence between them as the gravity of the situation settled in.
Ryan gently removed her veil, revealing the red mark on her face. His anger returned, but this time it was directed at the man who had hurt her. "Did that bastard do this?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous.
Suzy nodded, her eyes filled with defiance. She was hurt, both physically and emotionally. But she was also determined to find out the truth about what’s going on.
"Let’s go home," she said, her voice weak.
Before she could step away, Ryan stopped her, holding her back. "What was your reason for the research?" he asked, his voice firm.
Suzy was taken aback by his question. She had never thought about justifying her actions to him before. "Since when do you concern yourself with things relating to me?" she retorted, her voice laced with bitterness.
Ryan was taken aback by her response. For the first time in their relationship, he felt lost for words. Her question hit a nerve, exposing a vulnerability he had never acknowledged.
As if sensing his discomfort, Suzy attempted to pull away from his grasp. But Ryan held her firmly in place. In his attempt to keep her close, his hand brushed against the sensitive area of her back where she had been injured.
Suzy winced in pain, her eyes widening in surprise. The sharp pain was a stark reminder of the ordeal she had just endured.
He noticed the pain in her eyes, a sharp pain shot through him as he realized she had been hurt. "What’s wrong?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.
Suzy hesitated, her pride battling with the need to admit her vulnerability. "It’s nothing," she replied, her voice weak.
Ryan knew better. He could see the pain in her eyes, the way she was holding herself. "It’s clearly something," he insisted, his voice gentle but firm. "Are you hurt?"
She didn’t answer, her silence a clear indication that something was wrong.
Without waiting for a reply, Ryan removed his coat and draped it over her shoulders, offering some warmth and comfort. He helped her into the carriage, his movements gentle but purposeful.
As the carriage began to move, he turned to face her, his eyes filled with concern. "Are you hurt?" he asked again, his voice more serious this time.
She didn’t answer, her gaze fixed on the window. As the carriage jolted over a particularly bumpy road, Suzy was thrown forward, landing squarely in Ryan’s lap. The sudden impact caused both of them to gasp.
The driver apologized for the disturbance, but the damage was done. Suzy was sitting on Ryan’s lap, their bodies pressed together in an intimate embrace. She tried to stand up, but Ryan held her gently in place.
"I apologize," she mumbled, her voice barely audible.
Ryan’s arms instinctively wrapped around her, holding her steady. "Are you hurt?" he asked, his voice low and gentle.
Suzy shook her head, her face flushed with embarrassment. She couldn’t believe what had happened. She was in Ryan’s lap, their bodies close together. It was a moment of intimacy that she had never experienced before.
Ryan slowly pushed the coat away from her shoulders as he tugged on the rope holding the piece of clothing that covered her back, his fingers brushing against her skin. The contact sent a shiver down her spine. He could see the bruises on her back and neck, and his heart filled with anger.
"Who did this to you?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous.
Suzy hesitated, unsure of how much she should reveal. "It doesn’t matter," she said, her voice weak.
Ryan carefully examined her back for more details on the bruises.
"I’m fine," she insisted, trying to downplay the situation.
Ryan knew she was lying, but he didn’t press the issue. He knew that she was already embarrassed, and he didn’t want to make her feel worse.
"Does it hurt?" he asked gently, his voice filled with concern.
Suzy hesitated, her eyes meeting his. She nodded slowly, her voice barely a whisper. "Just a little," she admitted.
"Is it your father, Count Edmund or The Countess?" Ryan asked, his voice laced with suspicion. The bruises on Suzy’s body were a clear indication of physical abuse, and he was determined to find out who was responsible.
Suzy hesitated, her mind racing. She knew that Ryan was trying to help, but she also knew that involving him would only bring more trouble. "I can handle this myself," she said, her voice firm.
Ryan looked at her, his eyes filled with concern. He knew she was strong, but he also knew that she was hurting. And she while enduring the pains was still stubborn and full of pride. He just wanted to protect her, to shield her from the pain.
He reached out, tied the rope and pulled the coat back over her shoulders, his touch gentle. "Be careful," he said, his voice low.
Suzy nodded, her eyes filled with gratitude as she got off his laps and went back to her seat.
As they continued their journey, silence fell between them. Ryan looked out the window, his mind racing. He had to find out who was responsible for Suzy’s injuries. He wouldn’t rest until he put them in their place.
