Chapter 128: Chapter Hundred And Twenty Eight

Suzy pushed the door open, revealing Doris frantically searching for something in the midst of a cluttered room. Doris turned, her eyes wide with surprise.

"Is anything wrong?" Suzy asked, her voice filled with concern.

Doris paused, her breath coming in short gasps. "Nothing, Milady," she replied, trying to sound calm. "I was just tidying the room so that I can do my other chores."

Suzy smiled, her expression softening. "I told you to rest, Doris," she said. "There are other people to do it."

Doris nodded, her eyes filled with gratitude. "I’m almost done," she replied.

She paused for a moment, her expression thoughtful. "Why are you back from the dining room so quickly?" she asked. "Was the food not to your liking, or didn’t you have an appetite?"

Suzy hesitated, her brow furrowed. "I’m feeling uncomfortable," she replied. "It’s as if something bad is waiting to happen."

Doris’s eyes widened. "What do you mean?" she asked, her voice filled with alarm.

Suzy shook her head, unable to explain the feeling. "I can’t quite put my finger on it," she said. "But I just have a bad feeling."

Doris’s eyes widened. "Are you sure everything is alright?" she asked.

Suzy shrugged. "I don’t know," she replied. "It’s just a feeling."

Doris nodded, her face pale. "Perhaps it’s just the stress of the recent events," she suggested.

Suzy sighed. "Maybe," she replied, her voice filled with uncertainty.

Doris nodded, understanding the look in Suzy’s eyes. She knew that Suzy was sensitive to danger, and she had a premonition that something bad was about to happen.

"I’ll be right here," Doris said, her voice filled with reassurance. "If you need anything, just call."

Suzy nodded gratefully. "Thank you," she replied.

Doris finished tidying the room and left closing the door behind her.

Suzy’s gaze was fixed on the window, her mind racing with thoughts of the recent events. She felt a sense of unease, a nagging feeling that something was amiss.

"Noah," she called, her voice barely a whisper.

Noah knocked on the door, his footsteps echoing in the hallway. "Enter," Suzy replied.

Noah pushed the door open, revealing his tall, imposing figure. He knelt before Suzy, his eyes filled with respect.

"Your Grace," he greeted her.

Suzy turned to face him, her expression serious. "Has Baron Carew left the kingdom?" she asked.

Noah nodded. "Yes, your Grace," he replied. "He left a few hours ago."

Suzy clicked her tongue, her teeth clenched in frustration. She had hoped to speak with Baron Carew, to get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding Lady Fiona’s disappearance. But now, it seemed that her opportunity was gone.

"How will I find out the full story?" Suzy muttered to herself, her voice filled with despair.

She remembered that she was not alone in the room. "Leave me," she said, her voice cold. She dismissed him with a wave of her hand, her mind racing with thoughts of her next step.

Noah bowed and exited the room, closing the door behind him. As Noah left, Suzy turned her attention back to the window, lost in thought she started pacing round the room when something caught her eye. Behind the dresser, she saw a glint of light, a sparkling object that seemed out of place.

Curiosity piqued, Suzy approached the dresser and knelt down. She reached behind the piece of furniture and pulled out the object that reflected the ray of the morning sun. It was a small pinky ring, its surface adorned with intricate designs and the insignia of the ring was covered in dried blood.

Suzy’s eyes widened in shock. How had this ring ended up in her room? And what does it signify?

She picked up the ring, cleaned it and examined the ring closely, searching for any clues.

Suzy held the ring, her fingers tracing the intricate design. She recognized the duchy’s insignia, her eyes widening in surprise.

"What is this ring doing here?" she muttered to herself, her voice filled with confusion. Someone had been here.

She remembered Doris’s story about slipping and falling, hitting her head on the bathtub. But why was the ring covered in what looked like her blood?

Suzy’s mind raced, her heart pounding in her chest. She realized that Doris hadn’t been alone in the room. The accident wasn’t an accident at all. It had been a deliberate attempt to harm her.

Her hands trembled as she examined the ring more closely. She noticed a small inscription on the inside band. It was too faint and tiny to read, but she knew it held the key to something bigger.

She sat on the edge of her bed, her mind racing. She examined the evidence she had found: the bloodstains on the ring and the ring itself with the duchy symbol.

"Only Doris entered my room last night," she muttered to herself. "So if this ring is here, that means Doris wasn’t alone. Someone was here, and that person attacked her."

Her heart was pounding as she realized the implications of her discovery. Doris had lied to her, telling her that she had slipped and hit her head. But the truth was far more sinister. She thought to herself, asking questions she didn’t know the answers to. "Why? Why did she lie to me? Why did she protect that person?"

Suzy’s thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. She jumped, startled by the sudden sound. Her heart raced as she wondered who could be there.

Taking a deep breath, she called out, "Who is it?"

There was a pause before a voice replied, "It’s me, Milady."

Suzy’s relief turned to confusion. "What do you want?" she asked, her voice filled with suspicion.

The door creaked open, and Doris entered the room. She looked at Suzy with concern. "Are you alright, Milady?" she asked. "You seem quite pale."

Suzy nodded, her voice trembling. "I’m fine," she replied. "Just a little tired."

Doris nodded, her expression sympathetic. "Would you like me to bring you some tea?" she asked.

Suzy declined, her mind still racing. " Don’t worry, it’s fine."

" His Grace request your presence in his study." Doris said.
