Chapter 246 - 247 Ye Jiuxiao Likes You

Chapter 246: Chapter 247 Ye Jiuxiao Likes You

"My lady, did the noise disturb you yesterday?"

Yufei looked at Chu Nanli with a reproachful gaze. "Still calling me ’my lady’? Didn’t you promise yesterday to address me as sisters?"

"Sister, did you hear anything last night?" Chu Nanli asked.

Yufei chuckled. "A man came in last night. That man was the former Regent King, wasn’t he?"

Chu Nanli was slightly surprised. "How did you know?"

Last night, Ye Jiuxiao had entered veiled and had been very quiet.

"The only men who have sneaked into my palace before, and whom you do not despise, seem to be the Regent King alone," Yufei said with a laugh, covering her lips.

She had seen it since the last time Ye Jiuxiao intervened on Chu Nanli’s behalf; Ye Jiuxiao was different toward Chu Nanli.

After all, the Regent King had seldom protected a woman like this.

Chu Nanli saw the curiosity and gossip in her eyes.

Then she heard her ask, "What did Ye Jiuxiao come to find you for?"

Chu Nanli thought for a moment and truthfully said, "He had some matters to tend to outside and came to bid me farewell."

Upon hearing this, Yufei looked astonished.

"He risked contracting smallpox just to bid you farewell?"

Yufei’s eyes were welled up with disbelief.

In her view, a man as composed and self-controlled as Ye Jiuxiao would not do such a thing.

Unless, Ye Jiuxiao held Chu Nanli in special regard.

"Nanli, does Ye Jiuxiao, perhaps, like you..." Yufei looked at Chu Nanli and asked directly.

Chu Nanli opened her mouth in mild surprise and then hastily nodded.

"How could that be?"

Ye Jiuxiao was merely her patient.

Besides, how could a man as spectacular and powerful as him easily fall for a woman?

"How could it not be?" Yufei looked steadfastly at Chu Nanli. "He risked it all just to see you once more; such heartfelt sincerity, if not affection, what else could it be?"

Yufei spoke and, remembering her own situation, sighed and said,

"The Emperor and I are affectionate spouses, yet faced with this outbreak of smallpox, the Emperor avoids me as much as possible."

"Yet Ye Jiuxiao, for your sake, risked contracting the disease. Can you not see his feelings?"

Chu Nanli still found it hard to believe.

Yufei, being experienced, naturally knew that Chu Nanli was lost in her role.

However, these things she had to experience for herself.

Chu Nanli’s mind was slightly in disarray; she did not know what Ye Jiuxiao’s intentions were.

Just remembering Ye Jiuxiao’s gaze from the previous night made her heart skip a beat.

"Doctor Chu, you are finally awake." A young palace maid suddenly burst in from outside, looking quite flustered.

"Impudent! To enter my sleeping chamber without announcement or knocking, how can you be so undisciplined!" Yufei frowned and reprimanded the palace maid.

Her stern voice frightened the palace maid, who immediately knelt down and kowtowed several times.

"My lady, forgive me, my lady, forgive me."

"I was truly just too anxious."

Seeing this, Yufei did not continue to blame her. "What happened that you’re so flustered?"

"Reporting to my lady, it’s the War God Prince; he fainted!" the young palace maid said urgently.

Yufei frowned.

Ye Yunting fainting in her palace was a troublesome matter.

Chu Nanli also thought it was bad.

With Ye Yunting having an incident right under her watch, Yang Shu would probably not know how to make trouble for her.

"Explain clearly, how did he faint?" the Imperial Concubine asked sternly.

"Your Highness, today when I went to deliver breakfast, I found that the War God was not in his room, so I searched around and found the War God fainted beside a big tree!"

"I had someone carry the War God inside and did not dare to disturb everyone, so I waited for Doctor Chu to come for the diagnosis," the palace maid explained.

Her words were logical, and she handled matters in an orderly fashion.

"You did well. This matter must not be leaked. Go and instruct those who know to keep their mouths tightly shut," the Imperial Concubine instructed.

"Yes." The palace maid took the order and hurriedly left.

"Nanli, I might trouble you to make a visit," the Imperial Concubine said, looking apologetically at Chu Nanli.

She knew that Chu Nanli might not want to save Ye Yunting.

But Ye Yunting could not afford to have any mishaps now.

Otherwise, both she and Chu Nanli would face dire consequences.

"Ye Yunting cannot come to harm under our watch, so I am sorry to trouble you, sister. I will definitely compensate you. Of course, if you really do not wish to intervene, we will think of another way," the Imperial Concubine said gently.

If Chu Nanli really did not want to intervene, she would take the consequences herself.

Chu Nanli understood what the Imperial Concubine meant.

The Imperial Concubine’s consideration of her feelings warmed Chu Nanli’s heart.

"Sister, I understand. I will go and check on Ye Yunting’s condition now," she said.

Having said that, Chu Nanli dressed neatly and then left the room.

The Imperial Concubine followed Chu Nanli.

The two made their way to Ye Yunting’s room.

Chu Nanli walked straight in and saw Ye Yunting lying on the bed with his eyes tightly shut.

His complexion was pale, and his face lacked any trace of color.

The ill man had shed his formidable aura and instead seemed rather haggard, no longer the awe-inspiring War God but an ordinary man.

Chu Nanli took a few steps forward, first checking his pulse by touching his wrist, then feeling his forehead, her expression grave.

"What’s wrong?" the Imperial Concubine asked anxiously, reading Chu Nanli’s expression as a sign that Ye Yunting’s condition was complicated.

"Could he also have been infected with smallpox?"

Chu Nanli, while feeling his pulse, shook her head gravely.

"It might not be smallpox, but he indeed has a fever. Don’t worry, sister, his issue is not severe, I can cure him; you all should leave first," Chu Nanli said.

Although the Imperial Concubine was somewhat uneasy, she listened to Chu Nanli and led everyone out of the room.

Chu Nanli felt Ye Yunting’s pulse again.

Indeed, it was not smallpox, but why did he have a fever, and the rhythm of his heartbeat seemed off.

"It seems there might be inflammation in the heart..."

Chu Nanli made a preliminary judgment, but as Ye Yunting’s symptoms were not clear, she hesitated to medicate recklessly.

After some thought, she locked the door and carried Ye Yunting into the space.

Nanny Hua, startled by the sudden appearance of the two figures, exclaimed in surprise,

"Your Highness, surely the Prince has not been killed by you?"

Nanny Hua believed that with Chu Nanli’s ruthlessness, she was truly capable of such an act.

Nanny Hua thought back to when she was first thrown in, Chu Nanli had intended to let her fend for herself.

She shivered involuntarily, her eyes filled with increased reverence for Chu Nanli.

Chu Nanli, unaware of what exactly Nanny Hua was thinking, only found her expression to be quite strange.

She did not explain anything, but instead instructed, "Help me support him."

As she spoke, Chu Nanli handed Ye Yunting over to Nanny Hua.

The action was not gentle, and Nanny Hua almost couldn’t catch him.
