My Aloof Lord Ex-Husband Begs for Remarriage -
Chapter 217 - 218 Pleading
Chapter 217: Chapter 218 Pleading
Lin Fuying’s face turned cold in an instant.
"Dong Yue, do not be impertinent! The Princess Consort is standing right before you, alive and well!"
By saying this, Lin Fuying intended to remind Dong Yue that Chu Nanli was not dead.
At this moment, Dong Yue was already panicking.
She had left only after hearing the increasingly feeble cries for help and struggles inside.
How could Chu Nanli possibly still be alive?
"There must be, there must be a ghost, Concubine, save me, please save me!"
Dong Yue closed her eyes and stumbled backward, her fearful and guilty demeanor so irritating to Lin Fuying that she nearly slapped her.
This maid was usually quite clever; such a reaction now was nothing short of a self-admission of guilt.
"Concubine Lin, this maid of yours seems very guilty," Chu Nanli narrowed her eyes.
Ye Yunting’s expression also darkened.
From Dong Yue’s series of reactions, she was definitely related to this incident.
"Do you confess your guilt?" Ye Yunting asked coldly, his powerful aura freezing Dong Yue in place, daring her not to utter a word.
Lin Fuying glanced at Dong Yue’s trembling form and clenched her fists secretly.
If push came to shove, she would have no choice but to sacrifice the pawn to save the chariot.
Otherwise, keeping this fool around might very well drag her down too.
"Dong Yue, kneel down," Lin Fuying commanded coldly.
Dong Yue was startled, a bad premonition rising within her.
"Kneel down now!" Lin Fuying commanded.
Dong Yue knelt down uneasily, not knowing what Lin Fuying intended to do but instinctively not daring to disobey.
"Dong Yue, you’ve grown too bold, even daring to harm the Princess Consort. Now, even I can’t protect you; you better confess your crimes at once!"
Lin Fuying’s words caused Dong Yue to turn pale with shock.
Wasn’t it Lin Fuying who ordered her to do it? From the sound of it, was she supposed to take the fall for this crime?
She instinctively wanted to speak up in her defense, but when she looked up, she met Lin Fuying’s icy, threatening gaze.
Remembering that her family’s fate was in Lin Fuying’s hands, Dong Yue dared not to speak out at that moment.
Even if she didn’t confess for Lin Fuying, Lin Fuying had ways to escape the blame and pin it on her, and both she and her family would suffer.
If she confessed for Lin Fuying, at least her family might be treated better.
Dong Yue was torn, but Chu Nanli had already seen through the scheme.
Lin Fuying was planning to make the maid take the blame for her.
She frowned and looked at Ye Yunting, "Dong Yue has no motive to harm me."
Ye Yunting frowned with a darkened face.
"We should investigate this matter further and find out who the mastermind behind all this is," Chu Nanli said.
Lin Fuying clenched her fists, her lips quivering and her face turning white.
"What do you mean, sister? Are you suspecting me?"
"Dong Yue is your personal maid, isn’t she?" Chu Nanli said with a cold laugh.
Lin Fuying’s eyes immediately reddened with a look of grievance.
"Sister, I didn’t know about this either..."
She turned her head to Dong Yue, her look threatening, "Speak, why did you want to harm the Princess Consort?"
Dong Yue, faced with Lin Fuying’s fierce gaze, stammered in fear, "This servant, this servant was momentarily possessed; no one else instructed me, I beg the Prince and Princess Consort to spare this servant."
Chu Nanli’s expression turned displeased, "Dong Yue, tell the truth. Were you really not instigated by someone else? Attempting to murder the Princess Consort is a crime that condemns three generations!"
Dong Yue’s heart skipped a beat.
As she hesitated whether to take the blame, Lin Fuying suddenly burst into tears, turning to Ye Yunting with a look of injury, "Wuu, it seems my sister still suspects Yingying. If sister thinks so poorly of Yingying, the only thing Yingying can do is to prove my innocence with death!"
As she spoke, she headed to collide against the wall nearby.
Ye Yunting swiftly grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his embrace, his eyes filled with tenderness.
"I believe you," he said, sending a warning glance toward Chu Nanli.
"Alright, since we have caught the person who hurt others, let’s execute the punishment right here."
Chu Nanli’s eyebrows furrowed tighter and tighter.
Ye Yunting intended to shield Lin Fuying.
"On what grounds!" Chu Nanli exclaimed angrily, "There’s obviously something fishy about this matter. Why not investigate thoroughly!"
"Enough!"
As soon as Chu Nanli’s voice fell, Ye Yunting’s face darkened to the extreme.
"Yingying is kind-hearted. How could she harm you! This matter must have nothing to do with Yingying!" Ye Yunting stated emphatically with a stern face.
"Guards, drag Dong Yue away and behead her immediately!"
Chu Nanli frowned.
Ye Yunting was not only protecting Lin Fuying but also trying to silence someone by killing.
Is this what he meant by saying he would clear up this matter?
She really shouldn’t pin her hopes on Ye Yunting.
"No, no, have mercy, Prince..."
Upon hearing the word ’behead’, Dong Yue was so scared that she collapsed on the ground, unable to stand due to weak legs, and only managed to stammer out this plea for mercy.
The guards outside were about to come in and drag Dong Yue away.
Seeing that Ye Yunting’s expression hadn’t changed and that he was determined to kill her, Dong Yue completely panicked and looked at Lin Fuying with a begging look.
"Princess Consort, Concubine, please save me. I am your personal servant; I don’t want to die!"
At the moment when death truly seemed imminent, Dong Yue was scared.
She really didn’t want to die; she was still so young and had never been married.
"Please save me, Princess Consort!" Dong Yue cried, pleading with Lin Fuying.
Lin Fuying looked at her weeping bitterly and frowned in disgust, with a tone gentle yet icy.
"Dong Yue, it’s not that I won’t save you, but you’ve made such a grave mistake, even I can’t save you."
She put on a facade of regret and helplessness while a glint of joy flashed in her eyes.
This foolish girl is finally going to die. Only with her death will the things I’ve done and those secrets remain uncovered.
Upon hearing this, Dong Yue felt a chill to the core.
She had done a lot for Lin Fuying, and now she was so quickly cast aside like a worn-out shoe.
Lin Fuying wouldn’t even say a word in her defense.
Dong Yue gave up hope completely.
The guards outside took the signal and started to pull her away, just about to leave the threshold when they were intercepted by a voice.
"Wait a moment," Chu Nanli spoke up calmly.
The guards stopped, looking at each other uncertainly.
"Let her go," Chu Nanli said softly.
Dong Yue couldn’t believe her ears!
The Princess Consort said, let her go?
Was she pleading for her?
Ye Yunting looked displeased, his dark eyes coldly turning towards Chu Nanli, "Do you know what you are saying?"
"Let her go. I won’t pursue this matter any further," Chu Nanli affirmed.
She knew Dong Yue was not the mastermind behind this, but merely following Lin Fuying’s orders.
She was just a pitiful scapegoat.
Chu Nanli saved Dong Yue firstly because the fault did not lie with her, and secondly because she wanted to keep a live witness.
Dong Yue must know the truth behind this incident, and having done quite a few things for Lin Fuying in the past, she must be aware of some of Lin Fuying’s secrets.
Therefore, she could not die yet.
Moreover, if Lin Fuying wouldn’t save her, but she did, it would also slightly stir the master-servant relationship between the two of them.
A situation with multiple benefits, Chu Nanli was willing to act.
Indeed, upon hearing Chu Nanli speaking in her defense, Dong Yue’s gaze towards Chu Nanli changed.
Ye Yunting, frowning, said unhappily, "Are you sure? You’ve found the person who set the fire, and now you’re not going to punish her?"
