Ms.CEO Falls in Love with Aloof Professor -
Chapter 103 - 103 101 Give Me Your Hand
Chapter 103: Chapter 101: Give Me Your Hand Chapter 103: Chapter 101: Give Me Your Hand “…”
Professor Sheng was about to turn 29 after the Spring Festival.
An almost 30-year-old elderly person telling her that her teenage years had arrived.
Lu Jingyan was choked with disbelief and stared at Sheng Xian for a full thirty seconds, “…are you sure it’s not menopause?”
…
The assistant was waiting at the entrance of the police station, and as soon as he saw Sheng Xian’s car approaching, he immediately ran over and opened the car door, “Lawyer Jiang Lu is here.”
Sheng Xian lifted her eyelids slightly, “How did he come over?”
The assistant scratched his head, feeling a bit embarrassed to say, “I was so angry at the time, I complained about it in the law firm’s group chat. Jiang Lu happened to be handling a case nearby, saw the message, asked for the address, and came over.”
Sheng Xian didn’t say a word. After Lu Jingyan got out of the car, she followed the assistant towards the police station.
Jiang Lu was sitting on a chair visible right at the entrance of the police station. When he saw them, he immediately got up and approached, “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.”
Sheng Xian had just finished speaking when a police officer called out to him, “You’re here? If you’re here, hurry up and come in for the statement recording.”
Sheng Xian uttered an acknowledgement and followed the officer inside. After a couple of steps, he seemed to remember something, stopped, and turned to look at Lu Jingyan, “Come here.”
It was then that Jiang Lu noticed another person there. He nudged the assistant standing beside him and asked in a low voice, “Who is this?”
“Miss Lu Jingyan.” The assistant, seeing Jiang Lu’s clueless expression, whispered, “The one from ‘You Are Poisonous’.”
“Sheng Xian’s kid from the mouth?”
“Right, that kid?”
“This is a kid? Goddamn, this kid is more like their fucking parent.”
“…”
In the midst of their hushed murmurs, Lu Jingyan walked up to Sheng Xian.
She was about to ask why Sheng Xian had called her over when from the corner of her eye, she caught sight of something, and then she sharply turned her head to look.
The knife-wielding perpetrator was crouching in a corner of the police station, warming his handcuffed hands and squatting on the ground.
Lu Jingyan’s face instantly turned cold, and her eyes, sharp as if hiding blades, shot daggers at the perpetrator, “Damn, how do you still have the face to be alive?”
The knife wielder: “…”
Jiang Lu: “…”
The duty officer: “…”
Sheng Xian cleared his throat.
Unconvinced, Lu Jingyan glared fiercely at the knife wielder as if cursing him with her gaze before she reluctantly turned to look at Sheng Xian.
“Let’s go, don’t keep the police waiting,” Sheng Xian said.
Lu Jingyan blinked, then realized Sheng Xian was asking her to go together to record the statement, “What, you can’t give a statement by yourself?”
Sheng Xian: “I can.”
“…”
So she could, yet she called her.
Lu Jingyan glanced at Sheng Xian sideways and before she could speak, Sheng Xian added, “I wouldn’t feel at ease leaving you alone here.”
Lu Jingyan looked up and surveyed the sacred and righteous police station incredulously, “Not at ease?”
Sheng Xian nodded, “Yeah, I’m afraid you’ll start hitting people.”
Lu Jingyan: “??”
“I am quite capable, and Lawyer Jiang isn’t bad either, but if you start a fight in the police station, no matter how good I am, I can’t protect you.”
Lu Jingyan: “…”
…
After recording the statement, not long after leaving the police station, Sheng Xian’s assistant received a phone call.
The call lasted only a few minutes before hanging up. Driving, the assistant said, “That was a call from the police station. They’ve said they’ve pretty much understood the whole situation now. The name of the knife-wielding assailant is Zhan Liang. He lost a lawsuit before, and the court ordered him to compensate your client with several hundred thousand. He never complied, and now his assets have been frozen and he’s been added to the list of dishonest debtors. The more he thought about it, the less he could accept it. Then today, after drinking a bit, he went to the courthouse and caused this trouble.”
After hearing the whole story, Lu Jingyan was even more speechless, “Just because he couldn’t accept losing a lawsuit, he stabbed someone? Does this guy have a hole in his brain? Why wouldn’t he reflect on why he lost the case instead?”
“I shouldn’t have gone with you to give a statement just now. I should have stayed at the police station, and while the cops were off using the bathroom or getting water, I should have taken the chance to beat him up.”
Jiang Lu, the lawyer, hadn’t driven to the courthouse and was now catching a ride back.
He and Sheng Xian’s assistant had just heard the investigation results from the police station and were itching to spout a few words about the knife-wielding assailant.
But before they could say anything, they were amused by Lu Jingyan, who was sitting in the back seat.
Jiang Lu, quite health-conscious, held his thermos mug and took a couple of sips of goji berry water, smiling meaningfully, “Really like a kid, aren’t you?”
The assistant couldn’t help but snort with laughter, “Really have the temperament of an elementary schooler.”
Lu Jingyan didn’t understand and looked around at the three people in the car, “What’s really like a kid? What’s really the temperament of an elementary schooler?”
…
After parting with Jiang Lu and the assistant, Lu Jingyan went with Sheng Xian for dinner.
The location was Lu Jingyan’s choice; she had looked on her phone for a while and picked a Cantonese restaurant known for its light fare.
Lu Jingyan also chose the dishes, and after ordering, she rattled off a series of instructions to the waiter, “No scallions, no ginger, no garlic, no chili…” Recalling that soy sauce might cause scar pigmentation, she added, “No soy sauce, and for the soup, remember to put two ginseng roots in it.”
Sheng Xian, watching the waiter scribble down her demands under Lu Jingyan’s intent gaze, honestly thought she was overreacting.
He was different from her; she had been raised delicately, while he had often faced hunger after the age of five, sometimes forced to eat leftovers from the day before because the caregiver was neglectful.
He had to stand on a stool to warm up the food and, being so young, only imitated what he saw, ending up burning his hand and getting a large blister that hurt for a month to heal without even applying ointment.
It wasn’t that he didn’t apply it; back then, he simply didn’t know such a thing as ointment existed.
From a young age, he had learned to do many things, gotten hurt often, and never used medications, let alone had any kind of nourishment afterward.
It wasn’t that he lived roughly, but rather he got used to it. Nobody thought he was particularly precious, and eventually, even he didn’t consider himself so.
Now, watching her fuss over these details, although he felt she was overreacting, he didn’t stop her.
Because this was the first time he realized that he, too, could be treated with such earnest care.
After dinner, once back home, Lu Jingyan watched Sheng Xian take his medicine.
There was actually no need to change the dressings today, but since there had been consistent minor bleeding from Sheng Xian’s wound, and seeing the bandage had reddened, Lu Jingyan decided, after pondering, that she should change it anyway.
Lu Jingyan reviewed the video recorded at the hospital and then beckoned Sheng Xian to come over.
Sheng Xian stood nearby, glanced at her for a couple of seconds with downcast eyes, and then pulled up a chair to sit beside her.
Lu Jingyan took out the ointment and bandage and extended her hand toward Sheng Xian, “Give me your hand.”
Sheng Xian remained still, his fingertips involuntarily curling.
Lu Jingyan tapped on the table, “Your hand.”
Sheng Xian’s Adam’s apple moved slightly, and after a few seconds, he raised his hand and placed it on the table.
Lu Jingyan reached out and grasped his hand.
Sheng Xian’s fingertips twitched, instinctively about to withdraw.
“What, did I grip too tight?” Lu Jingyan noticed his reaction, eased her grip, and blew on his palm through the bandage before looking up to ask, “How about now? Is it better?”
The tickling in his palm made his heart flutter softly.
Looking at her careful and caring expression, he pursed his lips and murmured a soft “Hmm.”
After two seconds, he slowly relaxed his fingertips, allowing her to pull his hand closer to her.
