Chapter 377: 376 Imbued with fertility, the farce before the wedding
M & R by the window
From above, I could just see Finn Robinson tidying up things in the chill wind, and Tim Payne spoke straightforwardly, "Zoe’s wedding is imminent. Might Finn cause trouble out of unrequited love?"
"I’m not sure." Finn Hale gazed at the person downstairs, his eyes dark and inscrutable.
He had followed him for ten years, given all that could and should be given.
Even at the studio’s anniversary two years ago, Finn had even gifted him an apartment.
He had always been generous to his employees.
Michale Shaw was astonished, "I’m just worried that what Finn Robinson really wants isn’t any sort of monetary compensation, but—"
"Uncle," I said.
I really couldn’t tell that uncle was, after all, a player of both men and women.
William Hale signaled to him with a look:
Would you shut up already!
"I’ll have someone keep a discreet eye on him during this time to ensure he won’t cause any disruption at the wedding," Finn Hale stated.
"By the way, Hale, should we throw you a bachelor party before the wedding?" Michale Shaw’s eyes lit up at the mention of a party.
William Hale was helpless:
He was already married, what was the use of a bachelor party.
"It’s just about all of us getting together and having fun. I’ll take care of everything; I’ll send you the address, and you just come and enjoy yourself." Michale Shaw said, glancing at Tim Payne, "Will Junior President Payne join us too?"
"If I’m free."
Michale Shaw took a sip of tea and casually mentioned, "Are you busy because you’re going on a blind date?"
Tim Payne gave him a sharp look.
His gaze was like a knife, as if wanting to pierce a few holes in him.
He immediately stood up, coughing twice, "I just remembered I have a business meeting with Chairman Shea, I must be going."
And with that, he ran off like a thief.

With William Hale and Zoe Payne’s wedding date drawing ever closer, the Capital City was buzzing with excitement.
About a week before the wedding, Zoe moved back to the Sheng Family Mansion under the pretext of preparing for the wedding, but there wasn’t much for her to worry about—she spent her days either birdwatching with her uncle or accompanying her grandparents to visit old friends.
Otherwise, she was at home, basking in the sun or pampering herself with beauty and skincare treatments.
And...
Helping her brother assess his potential sisters-in-law.
There were many visits from friends and relatives to the Sheng Family Mansion lately, claiming to be congratulatory; in truth, it was a cover for matchmaking.
Her brother had taken refuge in his office, leaving Zoe to meet with quite a few prospects.
She thought each one was fine and went straight to Tim Payne to say, "Brother, why don’t you marry them all to make them my sisters-in-law?"
Tim Payne felt like she would be the death of him yet.
On the day before the wedding, Hannah Johnson and Sussie Lopez both arrived at the Sheng Family Mansion.
"Sis, it’s cold, you didn’t have to come specially," said Zoe, who was also worried about Hannah being pregnant.
"It’s boring at home."
"Where’s Teacher Shea?"
"Michale Shaw mentioned organizing a party for William; I told him to have fun. He’s been off school for the winter holidays and has nothing to do, always sticking around me, nagging in my ear about what I can’t eat and drink—so annoying."
Hannah sighed, "Am I marrying a husband?"
"I clearly picked a dad for myself."
Sussie couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
"Auntie, how far have things progressed between you and uncle?" Hannah asked.
"What do you mean ’how far’? We’re just dating normally."
"Have you... slept together?"
Hannah was always straightforward, but her question made Sussie’s face flush hot.
"I’m just kindly reminding you, if you’re not planning on having a baby, make sure to take precautions," she said, turning to Zoe, "Are you and William planning to have kids?"
Zoe nodded, "We haven’t been using contraception during this time, but there’s been no news yet."
"Don’t worry, sleep with me tonight, and let yourself catch some pregnancy luck."
"Sounds good."
"..."
During the conversation, Zoe’s phone vibrated with a message from William Hale, reminding her to rest early tonight.
Tomorrow would be busy.
——
At the moment, William Hale was dealing with a headache. They said it was a party for him, but in the end, they left the man of the hour hanging, Michale Shaw was currently embracing his brother, both holding microphones and singing.
There would be serious business tomorrow, and nobody dared to drink too much, so they played harder instead.
"Wyatt, I heard that when Hale first got together with your sister-in-law, you also went to Greenland?" Someone was curious about the affair between William Hale and Zoe.
"Let me tell you, if I hadn’t gone to assist, this family would have fallen apart."
"The sister-in-law was quite reserved at the beginning..."
"I have no idea how my brother managed to trick her into coming home. Looking into my brother’s eyes was like a mouse seeing a cat."
William Hale was also in a good mood.
Usually, if Wyatt gossiped about him to his face, he wouldn’t be able to attend the wedding tomorrow.
But recalling every little moment with Zoe up to now, he felt inevitably sentimental; after all, too much had happened. Just then, the private room’s door was pushed open and Tim Payne walked in.
"Junior President Payne, you’re late. You have to drink a penalty shot," said Michale Shaw.
"Sure."
Tim Payne didn’t say much but picked up a glass of wine and downed it in one go, then sat next to William Hale, "I just met two relatives at the hotel entrance and had a chat."
The hotel where the gathering was taking place would also be the venue for tomorrow’s wedding.
The hotel belonged to the Hale Family, and in preparation for tomorrow’s wedding, it had been closed to the public two days earlier. Some relatives and friends had come early from overseas or other places.
Anyone who received a wedding invitation could enter the hotel in advance.
Apart from lodging, recreational entertainment was also readily available.
Most people you’d meet here were acquaintances.
"Everyone wants to have a drink with you, so be careful tomorrow," Tim reminded.
William Hale nodded.
"How about Finn Hale? Didn’t he come?" Tim looked around the room.
"He’s on a business trip; he’ll be home tonight."
Around ten-something, William Hale glanced at his wristwatch, planning to leave early, when Zac Cruz hurried in with a serious look, lowering his voice, "Sir, there’s trouble."
William Hale’s gaze turned slightly cold, but he said nothing.
"The police are here, saying they want to conduct a room search."
"That’s quite normal."
With the year-end crackdowns, sudden inspections of hotels and guesthouses were common occurrences.
"They claim to have received a tip-off from the public, saying..."
"Saying what?"
"Saying that in our hotel, someone is soliciting prostitutes."
The air around them seemed to chill for a moment.
While everyone was at the height of their enjoyment, Tim, who was close, sensed something was amiss, "What’s happened?"
"Nothing. Some guests have arrived, who know I’m here and want to see me. I’ll go and take a look," William Hale said as he stood up to leave.
Tim wasn’t fooled by his story and got up to follow.
At this point in the night, no matter what kind of guest it was, there shouldn’t be a need for William Hale to personally meet them, unless something had gone wrong. Tomorrow was his sister’s wedding, and naturally, Tim didn’t want any unexpected developments.
As he entered the elevator, William Hale was taken aback but said nothing more, only asking Zac Cruz, "Where are the police?"
"They’ve taken the elevator to the 18th floor."
"Don’t alarm the other guests."
"I understand," Zac Cruz explained, "The person reporting gave a specific room number, so the police went straight there."
William Hale’s eyes were filled with ice.
