Chapter 273: 272 Throwing a tantrum and rolling on the ground, I raised an ingrate (2 updates)
Kevin Bell arrived in Capital City last night and finally managed to get a taxi to Hot Spring Villa, hoping to see Zoe Bell, but was stopped by the security at the gate. Now, with a fawning expression and a limp, he approached the car, "Thank you, really, thank you."
"No problem, are you really Mrs. Hale’s father?" Celine Payne eyed him.
A smile tugged at her lips, yet her eyes were filled with disdain.
"I am her foster father."
"It’s about a forty to fifty-minute walk from here to the mountain resort. Get in, I’ll take you," Celine said with a smile.
"Thank you so much, you are so kind."
Kevin Bell couldn’t wait to get into the car.
"Do you know my daughter?" he asked carefully.
"Who doesn’t know Mrs. Hale," Celine chuckled softly, "I just thought she didn’t have any living relatives since she said she was an orphan."
Kevin’s face shifted subtly, but he kept up a hollow smile.
His reason for coming was simple.
He wanted money!
Celine drove him all the way to the hotel entrance within the villa.
If one could enter the villa, it meant they were guests of the Payne Family, and since he arrived in a Payne’s car, the hotel staff naturally didn’t give it a second thought.
Kevin stepped into the lobby and froze for several seconds.
Lavishly grand, the epitome of luxury.
Many guests from last night’s event were lingering in the lobby after breakfast, preparing to return to the city. Kevin observed those people; many were high-profile figures beyond his reach.
Zoe Bell had truly infiltrated the upper echelons of Capital City’s society.
Even when the Bell Family was wealthy in Greenland, they could not compare to these tycoons from the Circle of Capital City.
"Mr. Bell, I have other matters to attend to, so I won’t keep you company."
Celine said this but didn’t leave.
She was keen to see how Mrs. Hale would handle her foster father showing up at her door.
Why should everyone revolve around her?
She and a friend found a spot to watch the drama unfold.
"Mrs. Hale’s foster father doesn’t seem like a good man; is it really okay to let him in like this? He might cause trouble," her companion worried.
Celine shrugged indifferently, "He’s just a cripple, what trouble can he stir up? It’s not like he’s going to kill someone."
"The hotel has security; nothing major will happen."
"I didn’t expect Zoe Bell’s foster father to be a cripple too, like father, like daughter."
Her friend was still worried.
The villa was vast; finding someone wasn’t easy.
Kevin originally wanted to ask the hotel front desk for Zoe’s location, but then he thought, with such a high-level event, they would probably not reveal guest room numbers so easily.
If William Hale was also there,
he definitely wouldn’t get any favors.
He steeled himself, walked to the center of the lobby, put down his crutches, and just squatted on the ground, which caused the people around to turn and look.
"Sir, what are you doing?" the staff frowned.
"I’m here to find my daughter, but she doesn’t want to see me..."
"I’ve taken care of her for over twenty years, and now that she’s climbed high on the social ladder, turned into a phoenix perched on a high branch, she doesn’t recognize her father."
"How cruel her heart is!"
"Now that she has money, being the wife of a wealthy family, she surely can’t bear to see her poor father!"
...
Celine nearly laughed out loud.
Zoe Bell’s foster father was quite the character.
A man formerly of status now resorting to making a scene, lying down and rolling on the floor.
Seeing this, the staff member said, "Sir, if you have an issue, please get up and talk about it. The floor is quite cold."
"Don’t touch me, I am a person with a disability!"
Kevin didn’t want to do this, but he was desperate for money to turn his fortunes around.
If I try to contact Zoe Bell privately, I definitely won’t get what I want.
Anyway, there are too many people around now, Zoe Bell has no shame, but the Hale Family must care about their reputation, they’ll certainly have to give me an explanation.
The staff, seeing that he indeed had trouble moving, and also fearing they would be blamed, didn’t dare to be too troublesome, and could only ask kindly, "Who is your daughter? Is it possible she’s not here, and you’ve got the wrong place?"
"My daughter is Zoe Bell!"
With that statement, the bystanders all began to look on.
"Is that really Mrs. Hale’s father? Wasn’t she an orphan?"
"It must be her foster father."
"The Bell Family used to be okay, how can he be lying on the ground, making a scene? It’s really disgraceful."
...
The onlookers were abuzz, while the hotel staff didn’t dare to neglect, and immediately made a call to the guest room.
Zoe Bell had just gotten up to freshen up and had arranged to meet her brother in the gymnasium.
She paused for a few seconds when she answered the call.
"You said, who is in the lobby?"
"He claims to be your father."
Zoe’s heart skipped a beat, and at that moment, she faintly heard the voice of Kevin Bell through the handset, "...To nurture her, we spared no effort and expenses, we hired the best teachers for her, treating her like a princess."
"I never expected she would seduce my son. Even though things got unpleasant at the time, I didn’t kick her out of the house."
"I may have done some wrong things, but after all, I have raised her for so many years."
"I may not have any great merits, but I have put in the hard work. Now that she’s become wealthy, she hasn’t so much as called or sent a message in months, completely heartless."
"If I knew she would turn into such an ungrateful brat, I would have never adopted her."
"When she was in the orphanage, she was skinny and fragile, and it was only through the careful care of my wife and me that she has what she has today."
Zoe’s fingers tightened.
How did Kevin Bell find this place!
She quickly left the room, leaning on her crutches.
Kevin Bell’s commotion was not small, and since the villa belonged to the Payne Family territory, soon enough, all the Payne Family members were informed.
It was odd enough that he was able to enter the villa.
Clearly, someone had intentionally let him in.
Mario Payne and his wife, as well as Tim Payne, were worried about Zoe’s situation, and didn’t delve into other problems.
But Iva Payne was fuming!
Could it have been the work of that thoughtless daughter of hers!
Utterly foolish.
She tried calling her, but she didn’t pick up.
She had scolded her last night, and first thing in the morning, she stormed off, saying she was going back to the city.
That fool, if she really wanted to marry Finn Hale, she should be getting along well with Zoe Bell. Starting from there might have actually helped her get into the Hale Family; by offending her, it’s like offending William Hale.
Marrying Finn Hale was even more of a pipe dream.
How did she give birth to such a nincompoop.
Iva Payne had already ordered someone to drag Kevin Bell away immediately.
But she underestimated human nature.
Kevin was initially sitting on the ground, but as soon as he saw someone trying to get rough, he simply lay down, thinking it was Zoe or William Hale who had sent people, "I won’t leave until I see Zoe Bell today."
"Do you think you can really kill me, no matter how powerful you are?"
"Let’s talk nicely, don’t touch me!"
"Zoe Bell, don’t hide from me, if you dare, come out and face me."
Kevin Bell was already a notorious debtor; whenever debt collectors came to him, he used all kinds of shameless tactics.
As long as he could get money, he was willing to go to any lengths.
Who cares about face.
By this time, Zoe had arrived at the lobby in the elevator, and upon confirming that the person making a scene in the lobby was indeed Kevin Bell, her gaze turned even colder.
Celine Payne sat in a corner, a smile playing on her lips.
Finally, she’d arrived.
