Mrs Hale, I Surrender -
Chapter 249 - 248 Living together, but not boyfriend and girlfriend?
Chapter 249: 248 Living together, but not boyfriend and girlfriend?
In the living room, Zoe Bell was drinking water, continuously flipping her phone, considering whether to inform her husband, but her peripheral vision kept sizing up Isaac Shea.
He was truly handsome.
"Miss Johnson said she’ll be back soon, will she be having lunch here?" Isaac Shea looked towards her.
Miss Johnson?
They’re that formal?
Usually, she also loves to refer to William Hale as her husband, perhaps it’s just a little quirk.
"Your leg should have something light, how about I steam bass and stir-fry shrimp? Do you have any dietary restrictions?" Before she could respond, Isaac Shea had already opened the refrigerator.
"I’m okay with anything."
Although Zoe was curious how her cousin ended up with Teacher Shea, she didn’t plan on staying for lunch.
She’d just heard some unexpected gossip, and at that moment, she felt like a wild cat bouncing through the melon patch, wanting to share the news with someone when suddenly Isaac Shea presented a plate in front of her, "I made this roasted oatmeal myself, added some dried fruit, you can snack on it to tide you over."
It smelled...
Quite delicious.
"Do you normally cook?" Zoe inquired.
Isaac Shea nodded.
Zoe chuckled ruefully to herself:
Could it be that he’s "the cooking aunt"?
Then haven’t they been living together for a while now?
At least when she last mooched a meal, he would have been there.
Zoe suddenly remembered Fanta’s odd behavior that time, always wandering to the master bedroom door.
Cousin, you really are something!
Especially this Teacher Shea, rumored to be one of the youngest teaching assistants, handsome, good at cooking, and seemingly very stable emotionally.
Fanta liked him so much, which indicated his character must be good.
When Kyle Lowe returned from moving some items and saw Isaac Shea, he froze for a few seconds.
This wild man...
How is he still here!
Isaac Shea recognized him and politely said, "Hello, long time no see."
Zoe, eating her roasted oatmeal, couldn’t help but widen her eyes.
Her gaze swept back and forth between the two men,
This...
They seem familiar?
Kyle Lowe’s face was cold, his heart burning with turmoil.
Ruined, even diving into the Yellow River wouldn’t wash him clean.
What long time no see?
They’ve only met a few times in total.
"Ma’am, I’ll continue moving the items," Kyle said, wanting to flee with the shopping bags.
"Don’t rush, just set the items aside so they’re not in the way, and then come talk with me," Zoe said with a smile, and Kyle could only nod and move next to her, while Isaac Shea was busy in the kitchen, almost unable to hear their conversation.
"You seem quite familiar with Teacher Shea?"
Kyle Lowe: "Not really."
"You didn’t seem surprised to see him at your cousin’s place."
"I was surprised inside; I just don’t show it. Actually, my heart is churning," Kyle said with an impassive face, keeping his composure to avoid giving anything away.
"Oh..." Zoe raised an eyebrow.
After knowing him for so long, she could tell whether Kyle’s words were true or false.
Looking down, she continued eating her oatmeal.
She used to eat oatmeal for its low calories and high satiety when practicing dance; she ate it often but never tasted one that was this good.
As Zoe basked in the sun, leisurely eating, Kyle stood diagonally behind her, using his peripheral vision to observe Isaac Shea, who was busy in the kitchen, without any trace of embarrassment or tension from potentially having their relationship uncovered.
It seemed like...
He was the only one with a heavy heart.
Meanwhile, Hannah Johnson was also internally agonizing and feeling on edge. She had a packed work schedule that day, postponed all her following tasks, and drove home.
Fortunately, it wasn’t rush hour, and there was no traffic.
After getting out of the car, she ran to the door in her high heels, still panting when she arrived.
Regulating her breath and fixing her hair and clothes, she entered the passcode to the door.
Upon seeing her, Zoe greeted her with a beaming smile, "Sis."
Hannah tried to maintain her composure, with Isaac Shea coming out of the kitchen promptly upon hearing her, drying his hands, and smoothly taking her bag while also handing her slippers.
Such a series of considerate gestures left Zoe speechless.
No wonder her cousin fell for him.
"Why did you suddenly come?" Hannah asked with a forced smile.
"I missed you."
Isaac Shea poured Hannah a glass of water and then went back to the kitchen, while she drank the water and glanced at Kyle, "Go and help in the kitchen."
Kyle paused.
"It’s not a foreign language that I’m speaking, is it hard to understand?"
"No."
Kyle hurried into the kitchen.
On her drive home, Hannah had been contemplating how to explain the situation to Zoe; if it were a normal relationship, it would be one thing, but it wasn’t.
She asked Zoe, "Why didn’t you let me know before you came over?"
"I called you, but you were busy."
"At work."
Hannah forced a laugh, took a tactical sip of water, and before she could speak again, Zoe surprised her by saying,
"Sis, I never would have guessed you eat so well regularly."
"Cough—"
Hannah choked, coughing a few times before regaining composure.
What was this child talking about? Where did she eat well?
"Sis, what’s wrong?" Zoe frowned, "Did I say something wrong?"
"It’s nothing."
"I just thought this roasted oatmeal is quite tasty."
"Oat... oatmeal?"
Hannah bit her lip; her guilty conscience had led her astray.
"Does the recent Wells Family matter have anything to do with you?" Hannah changed the subject.
"Did you hear about it too?"
"Johnson Wells and his wife are frantic, using all their connections both domestically and internationally to search for their child. They haven’t dared to directly ask me, but through business partners we have in common, they’ve tried to inquire indirectly about the situation with me, but I genuinely don’t know anything."
Hannah looked at Zoe, "Does it really have to do with you and William?"
"Sis, I’m already like this, and Mr. Hale is overseas helping with my brother’s surgery; how could I have the energy to deal with his issues?"
Zoe gracefully dodged the question.
Since Hannah didn’t understand, Zoe didn’t plan to elaborate.
Sometimes, it’s better to know less about such matters.
"Sis, when did you start dating Teacher Shea?" Zoe wasn’t fooled by the intentional change of topic.
"Actually, we..."
Hannah hesitated on how to explain their relationship.
"You should be treating us to a meal," Zoe laughed, "Mr. Hale will be back in Beijing in a couple of days, shall we get together?"
"Better not."
"Why?"
"My relationship with him isn’t what you think. So, don’t tell William for now."
Zoe frowned, cohabiting?
But not boyfriend and girlfriend?
Especially seeing Isaac Shea carrying dishes from the kitchen...
He might have heard that last part of their conversation.
Hannah noticed Zoe’s silence, followed her gaze, and saw Isaac Shea standing not far away.
In the moment their eyes met,
His expression revealed unmistakable dejection and hurt.
Hannah looked away, suddenly feeling guilty and a bit anxious.
When they first got together, they agreed not to involve emotions, but now she couldn’t even face him squarely.
