Mrs Hale, I Surrender -

Chapter 203: 203 has gone crazy, wants to get a DNA test.
When Kyle Lowe arrived at the teahouse, he saw his wife through the glass window, talking to Junior President Payne. He didn’t know what they were discussing, but the atmosphere seemed quite nice.
"That man is..." Junior President Payne noticed Kyle Lowe.
"He’s here to pick me up."
This was probably arranged by William Hale, who usually took care of her protection.
However, his gaze at himself was strange.
Zoe Bell chatted casually with him about his tendinitis. She actually had some remedies for it, having become somewhat of a healer due to her long-term illness, always knowing some ways to alleviate pain.
Assistant Law remained silent.
This was still...
Actually discussing medical conditions.
Speaking this out loud, no one would believe it.
"Is your leg very serious?" Junior President Payne asked unintentionally.
Zoe Bell smiled faintly, "I am planning to have surgery next month."
"Which hospital?"
"The Second Hospital, it’s all arranged."
The man nodded, looking like William Hale treated her well, seemingly having arranged everything well in advance.
"This place’s litchi red tea is quite good, give it a try." The tea that Junior President Payne ordered for her arrived.
Smelling it, there was a faint scent of litchi, and the tea flavor was rich as it hit the palate.
"How is it?"
Junior President Payne picked up the cup, about to drink the tea, but then he heard Zoe Bell say, "It tastes quite good, but I still prefer eating litchi or litchi fruit tea."
Upon hearing this, the man’s movement paused.
The pause was significant, enough for tea to spill from the rim of the cup, seemingly without him noticing.
Assistant Law hurriedly came over to take the cup from his hand, while Zoe Bell quickly pulled out a tissue and handed it to him, but the back of his hand had already been scalded red.
"Junior President Payne?" Zoe Bell frowned.
"Thank you." The man took the tissue from her, tearing off a wet plaster that had been soaked by the tea.
"Do you want to rinse it with some cold water?" Zoe Bell frowned, his hand was quite red, looking serious.
The man nodded and stood up to go to the restroom.
Assistant Law intended to follow him, but he was stopped.
"Miss Bell, don’t worry. The tea wasn’t very hot, it should be fine." Assistant Law smiled, if he truly had been scalded by boiling water, as an assistant he couldn’t remain so composed.
Zoe Bell nodded.
She looked down at the litchi red tea in front of her, her brow tightly furrowed.
His lapse was unlikely because of her.
It might have been his tendinitis pain that made it hard for him to hold the cup, she didn’t think much about it.
Assistant Law was also suspicious, his boss Junior President Payne was usually unflappable. Sometimes when he was lost in thought, his colleagues would describe him as having a faint sense of the dead about him.
They said he was a living person touched by death.
Some people have a mind as quiet as still water, but for Junior President Payne, it was like a heart of dead water.
Especially these hands, so steady, usually cutting gems with not a millimeter of error, even if his tendinitis flared up, he should still not be unable to hold a cup of tea steadily.
He looked at Zoe Bell again...
Feeling that all the recent irregularities of Junior President Payne started when she appeared.
Meanwhile, the man had now reached the restroom, his mind replaying a scene from childhood where he had tricked his younger sister into drinking litchi red tea. She took a sip, her little face scrunching up, and with a child’s voice accused him, "It’s yucky."
"Brother is a liar."
"I don’t like drinking this."
"..."
His fingers suddenly tightened, his chest felt as though it was being pressed, unable to breathe, recuperating for a long while. He placed his hand under the sensor faucet and the shock of cold water helped his reason return slightly.
Be calm, they are just a bit alike.
Nothing more.
Yet he couldn’t give up, when he returned to his seat, after a few casual exchanges, he asked, "Miss Bell... are you an orphan?"
Assistant Law was dumbfounded.
Why was he inquiring into someone else’s privacy now?
Fortunately, Zoe Bell didn’t mind at all, only smiling and nodding.
"Do you remember anything before you went to the orphanage?"
"I was too young at that time. By the time I had memories, I was already in the orphanage."
"I apologize for the sudden question."
Zoe Bell shook her head, concerned for him, "Is your hand okay?"
"It’s fine."
Her cellphone vibrated. It was a call from Joy Watson. There was an issue at the online store that needed her attention, so Zoe Bell left first.
After she had left, Junior President Payne stared blankly at the cup she had used, noticing a faint trace of light-colored lipstick on it.
Assistant Law was driven crazy.
My boss,
what are you doing?
You’re staring at the cup she used. Didn’t you say you had no interest in her? Honestly, this behavior looks a bit creepy.
The key point was, when he left, he instructed his assistant, "Buy that cup and take it back with us."
Assistant Law was totally bewildered.
What’s going on!
When he made this request to the shop owner, they were also astonished.
The cups were custom-made, and there were brand-new ones available, but he only wanted the one that had been used.
On the drive home, Junior President Payne opened the packaged teacup, frowning heavily, "Has the cup been washed?"
The assistant nodded, "Yes, there was tea in it, so it definitely needed to be poured out. Tea stains are hard to clean if left too long, so the shop helped clean it."
The man sighed, leaned back in his seat, and felt a headache coming on.
He rolled down the window, letting the cool breeze flow in, only then realizing how ridiculous his actions were.
He had planned to use the cup for a DNA test without even asking Zoe Bell’s consent.
It was merely her eyes and certain behaviors that felt familiar to him, but the eye shape was not uniquely distinctive. His sister... was probably no longer alive.
I must be crazy!
"Assistant Law, tell me, am I losing my mind?"
The assistant gave an awkward smile. More than losing your mind, you are going crazy!
You are becoming a maniac!
Could it be that you want to bring Miss Bell’s used cup home, just as it is?
You wouldn’t be becoming psychologically warped from spending too much time alone working on designs, would you?
"Junior President Payne..."
"Yes?"
"Your tendonitis has been acting up recently, and it’s inconvenient for you to work. How about you take some time off to relax a bit?"
"Are you asking for a holiday?"
The assistant was speechless, his good intentions taken for granted.
----
Zoe Bell met with Joy Watson briefly, finished her work, and then invited her to a meal before heading back to the Old House of Hale Family. Kyle Lowe was with her the whole time, hardly giving her a moment alone except when she went to the restroom.
"Miss Bell’s schedule is quite simple. She spends most of her time indoors."
A private detective had been following Zoe Bell for some time.
"She mainly resides at the Old House of Hale Family, occasionally staying overnight with Mr. Hale at Yarden, and goes to the Rehabilitation Hospital, traditional Chinese medicine shops on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, but not at fixed times."
"Also, she is usually accompanied by someone most of the time."
"That person is very alert. There were several times I felt I was almost caught."
Serena Conner felt a headache while listening.
"Is there really no time when she is alone?"
The private detective was taken aback, "Not exactly. She does drive by herself occasionally, but not often."
"Then keep a close watch on her and notify me immediately if you find her alone."
Serena Conner had a plan in mind.
Since Zoe Bell had ruined her reputation,
she would make sure to see hers destroyed in return.
She wanted to see if the Hale Family could still embrace someone whose reputation was tarnished beyond repair.
Even tigers sleep; she didn’t believe William Hale’s people could watch her 24/7.
