Chapter 127: 127 Tempting him to lose control, setting fire to himself (2 more updates)
When Zoe Bell got into bed after a quick wash, she smelled a light woody scent that uniquely belonged to William Hale.
William wasn’t there, so she spent some time looking at her phone.
Lucas Bell had messaged her a few minutes earlier.
She called him back.
"How’s the Bell family situation being handled?"
"It’s okay. My brother-in-law found someone to help me, and Uncle Stone also lent a hand. It’s mostly managed now, but..." Lucas was still young, he sighed, "My dad blew up when he found out I filed for bankruptcy."
"Did he scold you?"
"He knew the company couldn’t be saved but still dragged his feet, refusing to lose face even if it meant suffering."
Lucas had no one else to confide in, apart from his therapist, so he could only complain to Zoe Bell for a bit.
She listened quietly, offering him a few words of comfort now and then.
"Sis, how are things at the Hale family? Are they treating you well?"
"I’m fine."
"If mom and dad call you, don’t pick up. My dad’s gone crazy, thinking you encouraged me to file for the company’s bankruptcy. Just ignore him."
Kevin Bell was not resigned.
At that time, he was undergoing surgery and was unconscious for a while. Lucas took advantage of this time, using his ill health as a reason, to take over managing the company affairs, as somebody needed to oversee the work.
So, when he woke up, he was furious enough to jump to his feet.
One leg had surgery, so he couldn’t easily get out of bed, and he lay there cursing up a storm.
About ten minutes after hanging up the phone, the door was pushed open from the outside.
She closed her eyes, pretending to sleep.
Her hearing became exponentially sharper.
She clearly heard William Hale’s footsteps getting closer and soon, the automatic curtains slowly drew close, enveloping the room in a somber darkness.
When the bed dipped on the other side, Zoe instinctively wrapped the blanket tighter around herself.
"Are you that cold? If you keep hogging the blanket, I won’t have any left for myself," a voice came from behind her.
Zoe’s movement with the blanket halted.
Then, she heard a low chuckle from behind: "You weren’t really asleep, were you?"
"..."
Zoe clenched her teeth.
In front of William Hale, she was indeed too naive.
She turned around frustratedly, unaware of how close William Hale was; he leaned forward effortlessly and kissed her.
Zoe, wrapped in too many blankets, felt her heart race as she was kissed, her entire body felt like it was in a bonfire, sparked and warmed all over.
Her breathing quickened: "Hot."
Meeting his teasing gaze, William finally freed her from the blankets.
The room’s air conditioning dispersed the stifling warmth around her, and she adjusted her breathing, looking at William.
He watched her silently, his expression a mix of amusement and ease, always appearing effortlessly in control.
As if,
ultimately, she was the only one truly invested and passionate.
William had thought that Zoe knowing about him arranging for Old Sir Lewis, scheming in all sorts of ways, would make her angry—that even if they didn’t argue, they would have a cold war for a few days. However, he didn’t expect her to let it go so quickly.
"Mr. Hale, I want to know, the car that almost hit you before, was that an accident?"
"Zac Cruz drives very safely," William didn’t answer directly.
"Also, the time I went to the hospital for an IV, I had a cold and a fever, I vaguely remember... you seemed to be there..."
"You were walking unsteadily that day, I was worried about you."
Zoe looked at him, curious.
When exactly did it start?
Now that she knew his feelings for her, Zoe grew bolder, facing his unfathomable gaze, and she leaned in, touching her lips gently against his warm lips.
William knew Zoe’s character well.
If she was being proactive, it meant he was in her heart.
So, he made no move, wanting to see what she dared to do next.
Having kissed many times, Zoe had learned a few things.
Testing...
Slowly, she deepened the kiss.
She kissed cautiously, slowly, and tenderly.
Loving her initiative, William’s heart surged with warmth, a mix of excitement and delight.
But she was too slow,
which was torturous for him.
He took a deep breath, his hands slowly tightening, his Adam’s apple moved slightly when he swallowed, his neck muscles tensing along with it.
As his breathing grew rapid, Zoe pulled away and stepped back.
William frowned,
her teasing kindled a fire,
and she thought she could just run away?
No way.
William chased after her and kissed her.
This kiss, rapid, fervent.
With a tightening around her waist, her whole body was pressed against his.
Breaths intertwining,
a spreading warmth.
...
In the darkness, it was as if sparks were burning.
William Hale had always been reserved, retrained, but now that he had made his intentions clear, Zoe Bell still chose to provoke him, and he naturally would not let this opportunity slip by.
He wanted her.
As her nightgown slid off, Zoe felt a chill over her body.
Skin against skin,
his warmth was impossible to ignore.
In an instant, it captured all her senses.
It was too quiet, unlike at the old house where one could still hear the chirping of insects; here, all she could hear was her heart pounding like a drum, so fast it seemed it could break her ribs.
She was very nervous, her breathing rough, gradually becoming dry and parched.
And his actions became more and more bold.
Everything,
seemed to be out of control.
"William Hale..." Her voice was fragmented and broken.
A hint of red was forced into the corner of her eyes.
Although she had never experienced such a thing before, in today’s society, who is so naive as to truly understand nothing?
Really, now that it had come to this, his dominance and the heat in his eyes that seemed to devour her
were getting more than she could handle.
That strange and novel feeling, as if it was going to burn and confuse her reasoning.
Breaths fervent, senses drowned.
"Scared?"
His voice, grazing her ear.
"If you’re not willing, we can stop at any time," he murmured into her neck and shoulder, his breath warm like a stream, his voice hoarse beyond recognition.
These matters, after all, depend on mutual consent.
William Hale hadn’t planned on doing anything; it was just that she was rarely so active, and his own reason crumbled.
As a normal man,
he naturally wanted more.
"I got bitten by Sweetbean today," Zoe’s voice was soft.
"I know."
"I got a tetanus shot."
"Hmm."
"The doctor said it’s best not to engage in vigorous activity."
"..."
William Hale stared at her intensely, his gaze wolfish; he now understood why she had been so unrestrainedly provoking him earlier.
Tempting him to lose control, then to pull back.
"Zoe, you’ve learned to be naughty!" William Hale slowly steadied his breathing, restraining the surge of desire.
"It’s quite late; we should sleep soon." Zoe shook the blanket that had been wrestled by the two of them, burrowing further inside.
Every time, it was she who ended up flustered and in disarray,
She always wanted to see him lose control too,
after all,
with the doctor’s orders, he wouldn’t do anything to her.
She was bold only because she relied on his affection.
William Hale just smiled, lifted the blanket, and then shifted closer to her.
"The doctor said I shouldn’t..."
"I know." In the dimness, William Hale stared at her, "It was your left hand today?"
"Yeah, I was daydreaming, right when Logan called me. He speaks pretty loudly, I got startled and accidentally got bitten by Sweetbean."
The wound wasn’t large, and wasn’t wrapped up.
It was just that the elder Hales were quite nervous, so she went to get a shot.
No sooner had Zoe finished speaking than she found her right hand grasped by his, his wrist forcing, holding it tightly.
She couldn’t break free, and then he was pulling her hand...
down,
pressing.
When Zoe realized what he intended to do, she was instantly panicked and blushed.
Her intention had been to lead him to lose control,
so she could withdraw perfectly.
Yet, ultimately the fire burned her instead.
