Mrs Hale, I Surrender
Chapter 126 Tonight, something has to happen

Chapter 126: 126 Tonight, something has to happen

White dew warmed the air, and the plain moon flowed through the sky.

Wyatt Hale looked up at the moon, only daring to glance at his elder brother from the corner of his eye. His brother was looking down, seemingly lost in thought, with an uncontrollable smile on his lips.

Yet Wyatt felt a chill running down his back.

"Brother..." Wyatt tentatively began, "I still have some homework to do."

"Homework?"

"The teacher assigned a short paper, can I go back to my room?" Wyatt started to make up an excuse, "You don’t know, that teacher is incredibly strict."

William nodded.

Getting his brother’s approval, Wyatt felt overjoyed.

Keeping a calm exterior, he put on an act and added, "I’d love to stay and enjoy the moon with you, but the teacher is really pressing."

"What did you just hear?" William tilted his head and looked at him, his gaze piercing and making Wyatt’s scalp tingle.

"I didn’t hear anything."

"Really?" William eyed him skeptically.

"I was far away, I really didn’t hear a single word, I swear. If I’m lying, may I never make a fortune and have octuplets every time."

William felt a headache coming on; you’d have to be able to give birth for that to happen, he thought.

But Wyatt’s lie was obvious to him, and he waved his hand, signaling him to scram.

Wyatt felt like he had been granted a pardon.

However,

as he turned his head,

he discovered Brock Hale was standing behind him at some point, only about a meter away.

A dark figure scared him out of his wits.

"Dad!" Wyatt breathed rapidly, "Why don’t you make any noise when you walk? You scared me to death. I have to go ask Grandpa for some heart-saving pills."

Wyatt quickly left after saying this.

Brock then sat down in his son’s former spot and looked up at the moon, "What’s going on with you and that girl?"

"Nothing."

"Your grandparents told me that since you got off work, you’ve been restless. You’re rarely like this, and they’re a bit worried." Brock too, was fulfilling his parents’ wish.

Ever since William took over the company, Old Sir Hale had always taught him to keep his emotions in check, especially at the negotiation table and in front of competitors, so that no one could discern his true feelings.

So it had been a long time since he had seen him so emotionally expressive.

"Just a minor issue, it’s been resolved."

Brock nodded approvingly, his eyes and eyebrows drooping slightly, "Find time... to take her to see your mother."

Mentioning his deceased wife, Brock’s mood visibly lowered, and even his voice turned deep and husky.

"I know."

"And your grandfather too, take her to see him. Old Sir always hoped he could see you get married and have kids, but he never lived to see the day."

William responded affirmatively.

"Your grandmother still hasn’t returned to the Capital City this year," Brock Hale sighed deeply, "I spoke with her before the festival; she was happy to hear you got married."

"Then I’ll take Zoe to see her."

"She said there’s no need to trouble yourselves, she’ll come to the Capital City in a few days."

Brock frowned slightly, "But when you have time, you might take Zoe to see your uncle. I saw your cousin the other day; she was upset that I didn’t bring her along to Greenland last time."

"She came directly to my house last time."

"If you don’t make it clear soon, that girl really might storm the Old House of Hale Family."

"..."

William rubbed his temples.

Ever since his father remarried, his cousin had only visited the Old House of Hale Family on holidays. Otherwise, with her temperament, she’d have no qualms about storming into Greenland.

"Also, since you are married now, remember you’re not alone. Don’t focus all your energy on work. She’s been through a lot lately and needs companionship. What’s with just leaving her a hamster?"

"She likes Sweetbean."

"So she’d rather have a hamster keep her company than you? To sum up, in her heart, you rank lower than a hamster?" Brock perplexedly concluded.

"Dad, don’t overanalyze it."

"I trust you can handle your own affairs. It’s getting cold with the autumn, better head inside early."

William nodded.

About seven or eight minutes later, he went back to his room and said he was planning to take Zoe Bell out for the night.

"Out? Where to?"

"A hotel."

"What did you say?" Old Sir Hale was wide-eyed and speechless, unable to process the news.

"The bedroom door is broken."

Logan Hale bowed his head feeling guilty and dared not look at his elder brother.

"Our house is..." Old Sir Hale was about to speak when the old lady handed him a cup of tea.

"If the young couple wants to stay out, let them be. Why meddle so much!" The old lady gave him a look, signaling him to shut up quickly.

Then, Zoe Bell and William Hale left the Old House of Hale Family amid the teasing yet blessing glances of their family members.

"The door is broken, I can have it fixed in minutes. Besides, do we run out of rooms or beds that they need to stay in a hotel? What is there to stay for?" Old Sir Hale hummed lightly.

Wyatt Hale, while eating a pomegranate, said, "It must be inconvenient."

"Big loss tonight, didn’t hear anything and got stung all over the face."

"Grandpa, you didn’t see how anxious my brother was just now."

"Like he was about to devour his sister-in-law."

"I think it’s just the little couple having a tiff, a kiss and a hug would do the trick."

Everyone: "..."

Especially when Logan Hale shot him a cold glance, he immediately shut his mouth.

"If they want to go out and stay, let them, Zoe isn’t too familiar with us and it’s only natural she feels restrained," the old lady sipped her hot tea. "If they put in some effort, we might even hear good news within the year."

Upon hearing this, Old Sir Hale burst into laughter.

Tonight, Simon Hale was not around, and he glanced at Logan Hale and Wyatt Hale.

One tall and robust, the other skinny as a mantis.

One a simpleton, the other a fool.

Both second sons of the family, he massaged his temples in frustration.

**

Zoe Bell thought William Hale was only joking with her and didn’t expect him to really take her out to book a room.

This...

What was this supposed to mean?

After returning, how would everyone view her.

She covered her face with her hand, turning her head towards William Hale, "Are we really going to stay in a hotel? What will everyone think of me?"

"Going back now, after such a short time, what would they think of me?" his tone carried a deeper meaning.

Zoe Bell was stunned.

It took her a while to realize he was actually driving.

She hid in the passenger seat, feeling her face warm up.

Short time?

This hardly sounded like something William Hale would say.

Indeed, the more she interacted with him, the more she understood and realized that her previous perception of him was too superficial.

The car left the Old House of Hale Family and headed towards the most bustling part of Capital City. Even shrouded in nightfall, it was brilliantly lit, as bright as day, a completely different city from Greenland, with a long history, embracing everything.

William Hale didn’t go to any hotel, but drove her around to unwind instead.

Eventually, the car entered one of the most luxurious villa areas in Capital City—

Yarden!

"Is this where you live?" Zoe seemed to recall William Hale had mentioned it before.

"Not mine, ours," he corrected.

William Hale lived in a large flat on the top floor.

When Zoe Bell entered, a pair of pink slippers were already placed at the door.

"Nanny Parker came earlier to clean up," William Hale explained. "Some clothes, your trophies, and your perfume-making supplies are also here."

Only when she changed her shoes and entered did she see a large floor-to-ceiling window facing the sunrise, with a view of Capital City’s nightscape, the minimalist decor made the entire home seem bland and cold.

"Do you really live here?" Zoe Bell felt it lacked liveliness.

"Most of the time, I just come back to sleep."

"..."

"In the future, you can decorate the house in any style you like," William Hale said as she still stood by the window. "By the way, we’re staying here tonight."

Zoe Bell was taken aback.

"I’ve already showered at the Old House."

Implicit meaning:

It was her turn to shower.

Zoe Bell paused, having received a tetanus shot today, and the doctor had advised her not to touch water, so she planned to simply wipe her body down. Opening the bedroom wardrobe, her clothes were neatly arranged by Nanny Parker.

She had a feeling that something might happen tonight...
