Chapter 93: Crime Partners

They both stared at each other where Li ZiChen was the first to make his smile into a grin, "Falling for me yet?"

She blinked and turned away, "That’s your imagination," and she stood out, making sure that he seemed out of the drugs’ effect though she could see that he seemed to still be in a daze as his skin was more flushed than usual. "By the way, where is OuYang?"

He narrowed his eyes while looking at her, "Missing him?"

"Do you want me to hit your head?" She narrowed her eyes and then grabbed her fists tight, "I’m gonna kill that fucker tonight."

And she heard a laughter slipping from his mouth, he looked more happy than ever with his smile appearing more boyish and sincere that actually made her anger fizzing as quickly as it had appeared. They stared into each other’s eyes and Li ZiChen leaned back to the couch, "Before you go after him, did he do anything to you?"

"He wouldn’t dare," she scoffed and crossed her arms, "I was trying my best not to kill him. But he did try to harm Canary so I’m gonna repay that debt." As she was about to move she felt his hands wrapping around her like a heated iron bangle.

"The room next to us, they were a mess," he remarked with a suspicious glance to her face, "You sure that nothing else happened?"

"No," she shrugged her shoulders, "I was only helping someone in similar situation as me before, ouch!" She yelped when she felt his finger tightening. Li ZiChen seemed surprised as he released his hand from her and then clenched to his both hand tightly.

"I don’t think I can control my own strength, I’m sorry," he said sincerely but she didn’t think it was that much of a deep problem and waved it away with a brush of her hand. "What do you mean by similar situation?"

"Aren’t we running out of time?" She asked and he shook his head.

"We have all the time in the world for me to listen to you," and then Li ZiChen retracted his hand. He could see how AiLin’s eyes were wary and he made sure he told the words, "However if you don’t want to tell me about it, I won’t force you. Though I hope you will since we are now partner in crime aren’t we?"

She chuckled faintly, "I don’t remember burying a body with you yet."

"If that what takes you and me to become partner in crime, I can arrange for a burial arrangement for the two of us," Li ZiChen gleamed while she chuckled, thinking he was joking but he was sincerely promising to bury OuYang together tonight and be her partner in crime.

It wasn’t as if killing someone was his first time.

He squeezed his left hand where the snake tattoo had crawled to his wrist and then rubbed at it as the old wounds underneath the black ink were aching again.

It always ache when he’s near AiLin and that should make him frustrated but he could never think this ache as anything painful. Instead this wound was so endearing that the ache felt adorable to his heart.

She sat down and her red lips were the only thing his eyes could focus on this entire time, "Lu Ping hired him." Heavy with emotions, she cut her words and story as short and concise as possible, "He was ordered to assault me and taped it so the entire school would know what had happened. It was Jiang NianNian’s idea since she had liked a boy who also liked me. I refused that boy’s advances but he was a kind soul who genuinely liked me, he stayed despite how he was also getting bullied himself," she remarked and she pressed her forehead, desperately needing that sedative, "Anyway, she wanted to put me as a shameless slut who sleep with all guys as long as I get paid and have fun. I was young and reckless, moreover I have always been arrogant so I played straight to the trap."

She didn’t look to Li ZiChen’s face as she spoke about the case.

It’s been a long time and it was long enough for her not to feel herself dying when she spoke about that old case. But why does her heart feel heavy when she uttered this to Li ZiChen?

She shouldn’t feel embarrassed but her heart was filled with such nauseating ache.

She could hear something crack and only then did her head lift up, finding the green vein crawling on Li ZiChen’s forehead. His words were spoken through his gnashed teeth, "Do you remember all of their names?"

"Huh?" She saw his anger and for some reason she felt relieved. Relieved to see he was upset hearing her story instead of being disgusted and that thought made her feel small about herself. "I do but you don’t have to bother with it. It’s my revenge."

"I promised to help you," Li ZiChen spoke as he reached out his hand to settle it slowly on top of her index finger, the touch so dainty and so little but it felt so powerful, "You can shut me out for other things but don’t shut me out when I want to help you."

Impressed by his words, she found it hard to deny his help and could only nod in return. Her heart thudded but rather than anger as she had always felt throughout her life, it was a sense of security and rather delight.

"I also uh," she rubbed her head, "Uh. Can we pretend what happened earlier as nothing happened?"

Li ZiChen arched his eyebrows, "Remind me what happened?"

She frowned, "You know when we— kissed." It took her a while to realize that he was fishing that word from her mouth and she frown while glaring at him. "Let’s think of it as a cat biting your skin."

"No," Li ZiChen pushed his finger down the gaps of her fingers, "If I can pull out this memory from my head, I would love to frame it in a gold frame. So I could dance around with it and sleep while hugging that memory."

"Nonsense," she lifted her hand and pushed his face away but Li ZiChen could see how her ears had gone red as she maneuvered away from the couch and make her way to the door. She held to the door knob and turn to him, "What are you doing? Are you going to stay there?"

Li ZiChen sighed as he looked down on his lower half before pushing himself to stand, "I’m still a man, it’s not as easy as you think to pour water on burning fire."

"What are you saying?" She stared at him with an incredulous look on her face, "You know, people say that you’re scary and that they can’t read your mind but honestly sometimes you joke more than you appear and have a rather teasing attitude than serious."

"Not many people know that," Li ZiChen said as he opened the door for her, "I only show this side of myself to you." He then softened his gaze, "And you only show this side of yourself to me right?"

As much as she wanted to refute to his words, she found herself unable to say anything and that made her slightly pissed off so she rushed forward before him though it came to no avail as his steps were faster than her, catching up to her in mere seconds while letting out a series of laughter from her back, burning her cheeks in red.
