Chapter 72: Lost a Function?

Truthfully it was AiLin’s first time ever to be heard. When she had talked to someone, they had listened to it so they could return her with answers. But this was different. For the first time, she could express her concern openly and the person who she had talked to understood the matter and apologize for it, even going as far as promising to fix the said problem.

This uncanniness of properly "talking" out with someone makes her feel a sense of relief and for that, she decided not to discuss the issue anymore to Li ZiChen. His eyes that stared to her were sincere, after all, and he clearly seemed to have done it without any malice.

She nodded, "I’m curious about something else," and her light tone seem to break the tension of the room, "What did you do to Mrs Ruo’s husband?"

"He’s been planning a grand construction," Li ZiChen made sure they were both over the problem while he explained, "He wanted to build a new housing complex around the forty-four avenue."

"Isn’t that a wealthy neighborhood?" AiLin recalled the land that many have fought to bought for but failed. It turned out six years after that the land had been sold over to Mrs Ruo’s husband. "He must have spent quite a lot of money to purchase that land."

"He did and now he’s planning to cut down a few budget on building the houses there. He reached out to the Arrow One Construction Company which happens to fall under one of Li Corporation’s management. He didn’t know about it since on paper they aren’t affiliated. It’s my uncle’s company."

"I see," AiLin hummed, never knowing about this before. It seemed clearer to her that no matter what Li ZiChen’s money would never ever be burnt off even if he stopped working and enjoy his life in lavish luxury from today. "Did you also threaten the other construction company?"

"No, I didn’t need to threaten them," Li ZiChen said with a faint scoff, "As long as everyone knows that Arrow One Construction have disagreed on their plans, it would mean that the construction is doomed to be a failure. After all, Arrow One Construction only takes chances on projects they knew would do well."

"But that’s not enough, I’m sure there would be some other companies who would reach out to him," she remarked. While threatens work, sometimes it doesn’t. Like in cases of other construction companies who would take this chances despite the underlying threat and issue so they could be paid with a hefty sum by Mrs Ruo’s husband.

"There would be, but only terrible construction companies," said Li ZiChen with certainty. "Don’t worry, you will see it all happening in the news soon."

And Li ZiChen wasn’t lying. The next two days, AiLin received a news from her phone which said that Mrs Ruo’s husband had signed a construction contract with a company called Black Wall, a company that was said to have ran away from responsibility after one of their building collapse from a brief earthquake. It was found out that some of the funds needed for the building’s construction was stolen by the old CEO and how the current CEO has promised to be a different and a far better leader.

AiLin read this while she was eating her breakfast as today was the very first time she had woken up without seeing Li ZiChen. Nanny Po walked in with a glass of apple juice that she had settled in front of AiLin, "Do you need another serving, Miss AiLin?"

AiLin shook her head, "It was really good, Nanny Po. Thank you for the breakfast."

"Oh dearest! Don’t thank me, I am just glad to find that you like the food as well," Nanny Po said as she wiped the counter.

Closing her phone, AiLin felt that this was the chance. She had been curious about Li ZiChen and while she had heard a lot from the informations sent by Canary her best friend, she didn’t have a deep look into his childhood or the condition that had caused him to tattoo his hand despite seeming like a person who hates to do so. The words said by Li YingYi also caught her mind as Li YingYi believe that she was the cause for Li ZiChen’s tattoo and old wounds.

"Nanny Po, how long have you been working in the family?" She had asked with a light tone, showing a completely innocent look of curiosity.

Nanny Po who believed that AiLin is someone of great importance immediately replied willingly, "Ever since I was thirty, I suppose that’s almost twenty years now. I have been there ever since the Madame was pregnant with young master ZiChen. I was also there to help with his birth as it happened in the mansion."

"I heard that his parents are extremely close to each other," AiLin continued, "They seem to be a loving couple."

"That they are!" Nanny Po said with energy, "You don’t know how they have always been so close to each other. I suppose that young master ZiChen and YingYi had always looked forward to having a relationship like the Madam and Master. Since his youth, young master ZiChen always told me that he wanted to become a prince in shining white armor. He wanted to protect the woman he loves no matter the circumstances and be there for her in moments when she needed. His dream is to live a peaceful life with his beloved wife. Since he grew older I was worried as he never seemed to care about any women that came toward him."

AiLin laughed faintly as she recalled the woman who had thrown herself to Li ZiChen when they just met. She remembered how livid he was as he seemed to hate the women who seduced him. That would explain Nanny Po’s worry about Li ZiChen. Maybe the family even thought that he was frigid.

"The Madam even recommended him to look into impotence.."

AiLin began to throw her face forward and stifle the laughter that was bubbling in her chest. That mighty Li ZiChen! Impotence?! His family seemed so worried by his uncaring attitude toward women but this was far too funny! Such a handsome man refusing women at all cost, no wonder his family thought he’s lost his function as a man!

"Though honestly we can’t blame the madam for thinking so," said Nanny Po with a stern expression which made AiLin’s laughter to briefly pause. "Especially after ’that’ incident."
