Chapter 71: Communication Is Possible?
Chapter 71: Communication Is Possible?
Seeing her, Li ZiChen immediately walked off from the wall, pushing himself by his elbow as he reached beside her, reaching out his hand just enough to hover behind her waist. He then looked at Mrs Hua’s face, the two exchanging a secret glance to each other before Mrs Hua shifted her gaze back at AiLin, "Let’s meet again soon."
AiLin smiled back at the woman, her birth mother, a different woman who gave her a different kind of warmth in her heart, "I’ll be in contact."
As they walked out of the house, AiLin could feel the pleading look in her family. Somewhere they were expecting that she would stay with them but it was progressing far too quickly. After all old wounds don’t heal so fast and her trust was already broken by so many people so many times that she needed to be sure that she wouldn’t mind being lied by them again.
As they entered the car, Vicky held the door and placed her hand on the rolled down window, "Thank you again, sister. I’m glad to find out that we are one family. I’m proud to call you my sister."
"And so am I," AiLin said as she knew the sincerity behind Vicky’s words were by far the purest truth she had ever heard before.
"I’ll leave her to you, Mr Li," said her father who was looking at Li ZiChen carefully but turned to smile when they met gazes.
Samuel didn’t say a thing and only watched her, similar to Mrs Hua. As the car drove away, she waved her hand to Vicky and the rest of the family. She saw them huddling together, their smile softening and how the rim of their eyes were slightly red.
As they were back to being alone, AiLin pressed the back of her palm to her mouth. She waited for Li ZiChen to speak but he remained quiet. The silence went on until they arrived back home where she was the first to sit down on the couch and stare at him critically.
Although they hadn’t shared rules in these odd relationship they have, Li ZiChen picked the cue and sat down before her.
"Are you mad?" She asked him first with her eyes narrowed.
He shook his head. He seemed startled by how she had asked him if he was the one who was mad when it was her who was upset. He spoke gently, "I’m not even upset at you. I don’t know what’s making you upset however, I did try to figure it out alone in silence but I can’t understand it so it would help me greatly that you can tell me the problem that you saw in my action."
He spoke so robotically, showing the fact that he is a man who thinks by his head and prioritize logic over his emotions. Maybe that’s why he sometimes felt a bit out of touch. He wasn’t being inhuman, there were simply things he tried to understand that he couldn’t.
She sighed, "You knew that Mrs Ruo was going to appear to the family. You used them as a bait, don’t you think that’s unfair to them? You ruined the moments that they had by meeting me for the first time."
"I can clear you on that one," Li ZiChen’s fingers clenched and she realized that he was trying to remain cool. Though his expression was bulletproof, his body gestures showed his emotions and how deep down he is alerted by her sudden reaction to his action. She heard him explain, "I knew that one of your family members would make a fuss, I don’t know when or who but I know that it would happen. I have warned your family beforehand they knew what they were going into."
She frowned, so that meant the whole family was in it?
"Then why didn’t you tell me? Being the only one left in the dark isn’t fun," she reminded him and he softened his gaze.
"I know but I need to make sure first of your reaction to your family. I need to know whether you can find yourself comfortable to them and if they really meant their words when they told me that they have turned Beijing upside down to find your traces," Li ZiChen raised his hand and rubbed the back of his neck. "I don’t usually share my thoughts or plans but I know now that I should do that to you so it wouldn’t make you think that I’m playing you around on the surface of my palm."
Frankly, AiLin didn’t expect the conversation would go this way. They were talking... aren’t they? Li ZiChen didn’t once raised the pitch of his voice. His tone was understanding like a honey as he tried to coax her into softening her heart to him and forgive his action. He listened, he explained, and he apologized. Did he apologize?
"I’m sorry," Li ZiChen stated as if reading her mind. "But I knew that it would happen somewhere and that was why I stayed in the room. So I can make sure to scare anyone who would do anything to you or your family. But rotten weeds need to be taken care off before it is too late."
She questioned in her mind if she was being too harsh on Li ZiChen. He was correct about needing to take care of the bad roots of the Hua Family as after seeing Mrs Ruo, she became convinced that there are many of the Hua Family Members who look down on her birth parents and siblings or even worse, harm them out of jealousy and envy. He was also being civil and had talked about it to her family first. It would be unfair to keep being angry.
She sighed, realizing that her anger was a little unfounded for but she explained him, "I hate the feeling of being controlled. I understand that you seem to like controlling instead. But you have to know that to know someone doesn’t mean you have to fully control them."
"I’ll fix it," Li ZiChen said readily, "I won’t repeat this same mistake ever again."
AiLin smiled back at his words but for some reasons why does it feel as if he meant that he was going to make sure that this wasn’t repeated again by hiding every evidences if he were to repeat this again?
