Chapter 69: Testing His Patience

Mrs Ruo couldn’t bear it anymore. She stomped forward, dangerously closer to AiLin, "I see so this is your way of rebelling, Valentine?" Snapped Mrs Ruo toward Mrs Hua, "Just so you know once this landed to Elder Hua’s ears, she would be really unhappy. You wouldn’t want her to be happy don’t you?"

Mrs Hua crossed her arms, "So if you aren’t happy, Elder Hua will also be unhappy?"

"There you go! You get it," Mrs Ruo snapped her fingers. "So this is what you would have to do so my anger will be appeased. First. I want your daughter to kneel in front of me. She will have to put her hand on the floor and press her forehead to the floor. Only after she had done that will I be happy and change my mind about speaking this to Elder Hua’s ears. She has been unhappy who knows what would occur if she becomes even more upset."

"No," Mrs Hua responded at once, "You can tell her directly that I don’t want to listen to your words anymore. Tell her as well that since my daughter has came home, I will stop tolerating your antics."

Now not only was anger on Mrs Ruo’s eyes that had flared her nose but also surprise. This was because Mrs Hua had never once talked back to Mrs Ruo. So Mrs Ruo must have thought that Mrs Hua feared her— or more exactly— feared the one behind her. She didn’t expect the lukewarm tone coming from Mrs Hua even as she was being threatened by Mrs Ruo. Even worse, she appeared very calm, as if whatever hell that was going to come down upon the family was not such a biggie deal.

"You don’t look like you understand what’s going to happen after this, Valentine," Mrs Ruo felt the leash she had slipping from the tigress in front of her and that made her feel a sinking fear, "If I tell to Elder Hua, she won’t be happy, you know what happen whenever she’s upset by your action. Did you forgot the time when Samuel’s leg was broken? Or the time when your husband’s painting galleries all shut down by Elder Hua’s will? If I tell her a bit more about what that impudent daughter had told me the other day, Elder Hua wouldn’t take it kindly. I’m sure this time the punishment would be even worse. It would be even worse than that goddamn wound on your fucking forehead! I’ll make sure of it!"

"So be it," this time the one who spoke wasn’t anyone from the Hua Family. It was Li ZiChen. Mrs Ruo gasped when Li ZiChen spoke as he was a different kind of problem that she would want to avoid entirely. It’s partly because she knows that Li ZiChen was unhinged and she didn’t want to be the next target of his anger. She knew she has Elder Hua backings but she had heard from Elder Hua herself that if there were two people she had never managed to kill properly it would be Li ZiChen and Hua Valentine’s daughter, AiLin. Coincidentally that two people who Elder Hua never managed to kill were now here.

Mrs Ruo’s fingers shake as she held her folding fan. It was both from rage and frustration. Nothing was going right! She was trying to threaten Hua Valentine like the usual. Like the time when she had demanded Hua Valentine to give up a piece of land for her. When she threatened that she would report her refusal to Elder Hua, didn’t Valentine gave the land to her almost at once?

Now her sister in law was passive and remained firm on her words of denying to punish AiLin.

She stuttered, "Mr Li, I don’t think this is a problem that we should be talking to an outsider."

"Yet you’re making quite a display to an outsider," Li ZiChen responded. His mild tone was unlike his grim expression. "Moreover you were talking badly about the love of my life, so how can I not be upset, Mrs Ruo?"

AiLin was already being careful about what could possibly shock her even further coming from Li ZiChen, the man who had been orchestrating this entire play from the start. She was upset to think that he had somewhere expected Mrs Ruo to be here, meaning that he’s well aware that the family would be receiving a greater headache in a form of a nosy aunt.

"Love of your life?" Mrs Ruo was shaken but when she saw the family looked also surprised, she doubted it a bit. Though she asked herself again, why would someone like Li ZiChen whose hatred toward Hua Family was very known was now warming up to the other family members? Li ZiChen was still holding a grudge about the time when he was kidnapped as a child. That was the reason why he despised everyone in the Hua Family from Elder Hua and it should also include Mrs Hua. But here he is, drinking tea, offering tea to AiLin. He even called AiLin the love of his life.

She’d call it bullshit and think this was all a ploy but someone like Li ZiChen wouldn’t play an act for fun.

Especially to the family he despise entirely.

"Mrs Ruo," Li ZiChen leaned backward to his seat, "I remember that your husband was doing a rather important meeting this afternoon. I’m not keen to keep a watch on other people’s business but I heard that he was trying to sign a contract to the Construction company. That company name is "One Arrow" right? Why don’t you ask him how it’s going?"

Mrs Ruo eyed Li ZiChen carefully as she didn’t know anything about her husband’s work. But she did remember her husband warning her that he would be facing a troublesome meeting for a contract to be signed today.

"What have you done..." Mrs Ruo trailed her words with a faint fear on her face.

"You should go and check up on him," Li ZiChen warned, "Oh and tell him that he should come next time with a better contract. He was shooting too far by aiming One Arrow Construction Companu. Maybe by lowering his standard, there will still be one single company that would accept his proposal. If there will be one, that is."
