Chapter 54: Working Threats
Chapter 54: Working Threats
Gasps came from the women’s mouth. They immediately turned their eyes into a glare toward AiLin, ready for a fight as she had called them out in the public space. They clenched their jaws, "You don’t seem to understand that all we want is the best for our nice. Vicky, you haven’t came home for a long time to China so you might not understand this. We might sound harsh but all we want is for your own best interest," said the aunt again, her eyes narrowing as she tried to intimidate Vicky by directing her eyes to her and warning Vicky in an underlying message, "You wouldn’t like it if this reach to your mother’s ears don’t you?"
Indeed, the warning was very effective as Vicky became more and more worried. AiLin felt the girl’s hand around her cream blouse, holding to it tightly as if it was her lifeline.
AiLin turned her gaze back, feeling the worries that came from Vicky. She showed the girl a smile before lowering her voice, "It’s alright. You can either stay quiet for now or act as if you are heeding to them. Treat me like someone who is too nosy."
Vicky was surprised. She pursed her lips, "But wouldn’t that be embarrassing for you? My aunts— they aren’t exactly kind with their words."
"Of course I can tell that, it’s the reason why I decided to be here in the first place," AiLin turned her face to the women and pulled only her left grin, "But I came here to stop them because I want it, you are not in the wrong."
A glint arrived on Vicky’s eyes as she realized that AiLin wasn’t going to leave anytime soon and was ready to take on her sisters. It was clearer to her eyes when AiLin turned back at her aunts and let out a loud sigh, "Ladies, I was shopping in such peacefulness until I heard everything you have said to your own niece. At first I was baffled and even doubted my ears, you told her to lose weight, that she is ugly, and that she shouldn’t be like her mother. Don’t you think you are the one who is sharing too much about your family matters?"
Poised, Vicky’s elder aunt held her hand in front of her waist and broke into a scoff, "You should understand lady, we were speaking directly to our niece not for you to eavesdrop. Can’t you now step back so we can talk to our own niece."
"And have you push her into buying such an ugly dress that won’t fit her at all?" AiLin rolled her eyes when she saw the elder woman’s eyebrows twitching. She might be someone rich, thought AiLin. This was clear as the purse she carry is one of the limited edition of a branded class. Other than that was the woman’s telling attitude that was both rude and demanding. She must have been treated with such respect by the people around her because of her wealth.
"You aren’t listening, miss," the elder aunt enunciated her tone, looking like an angered tigress who was about to bite AiLin’s neck. Such a young nosy woman! AiLin’s face doesn’t seem to be ringing any bell in her head, meaning that although this shop is only frequent by wealthy families, she must be someone of less wealth who just came inside to window shop, unlike them who came here so often to shop.
They didn’t realize that AiLin had came to the shop ever since her birth.
"This is a family problem. I will be the one choosing my niece’s dress. She doesn’t know fashion better than me," crossing her arms, she then looked over AiLin’s entire body.
Yeah, nothing is impressive on her. Not even a single branded item. The only telling sign that she might have some money on her is the necklace on her with rubies. It should be the most expensive item that AiLin would have.
"You’re talking about fashion here?" AiLin chuckled, "See yourself. Is your fashion any better?"
At her words, the women’s face flushed red. The shorter aunt raised her index finger, "Be quiet you poor woman!" She seemed to also reached the same conclusion as the elder aunt in considering that AiLin is actually poor. "How dare you! Don’t you know who we are?!"
Unbothered, she narrowed her eyes to the shorter woman, "No. I would also have to tell you that I don’t even care if you are someone important to me. It doesn’t make a difference in my eyes. Just because you are loaded, gifted, and maybe a God himself, you have no reason to act this way to your niece. This girl is being so kind to you. To the point that she had been enduring your spiteful comments but it’s time for you to stop since you’re not only embarrassing her but yourself."
The elder aunt frowned when AiLin turned her knowing gaze outside the shop. When she followed her gaze, the elder aunt saw that AiLin was pointing at how everyone outside the shop had gathered to form a circle and watch the brewing drama.
"I’m sure everyone who has been watching you yelling at her would also agree with me," AiLin made her point.
The elder aunt became irked and could only gave AiLin a look of her eyes. She clenched her fist and as someone from her family couldn’t possibly make such a scene and embarrassed her own name out of fear the elder of their family would be so angry that they would punish her. Angry that this had only embarrassed her skin, the elder aunt snapped her gaze at Vicky whose eyes were sparkling as she stared at AiLin’s back while she defended her.
"Are you going to come here or not, Vicky?" The elegant question hid the poisonous demand from her tone.
Vicky turned to her elder aunt. If it was before, she would have gone with her aunt but she found a courage that made her to shake her head. This seemed to only pour more fuel into the elder aunt’s anger as she yelled at Vicky as she left with the rest, "You will regret this!"
AiLin scoffed, "Try to threaten her again, lady. I’d do the same to you."
"You don’t know who you are messing with," the elder aunt threatened AiLin with a hateful look.
"Oh I’m scared," AiLin sang before she placed her hand on the older woman’s shoulder, "Then let me tell you this as well. You don’t know who you are testing right now. A quick tip for you if you would like to live longer, missus, you should start fixing that behavior and be nicer to your niece. You wouldn’t want another stranger teaching you a lesson out of anger right?"
The twitching expression from the elder aunt’s face became worse as she studied AiLin’s face as if to remember her, "You will soon regret your action, young lady, I promise you that."
AiLin waved her hand to the woman, telling her to go off. The elder aunt stomped her heels, walking away from the shop in anger as she gritted her teeth while she moved from the crowded shop. She then turned her eyes in anger toward her younger sister-in-laws, "Do you know who that girl is?"
"No, but I have taken a picture of her face, sister," said the medium height aunt. "I will tell my husband to use his authority to teach her a lesson."
"No. Leave her to me. I’ll teach that damned bitch a lesson for not knowing her own place."
