Chapter 237: Caught On Footsteps
Chapter 237: Caught On Footsteps
Seeing her, one of the guys began to let out a laugh. FaIn who was cut between the midst of his conversation had looked at her and pretended to be taken back by her presence. He commented, "Woah. Is this really Miss Jiang Nian Nian in front of us, TaLu?"
Talu also laughed while seeing her, "Didn’t someone tell us that she would never come to need our help again and prefer not to be in contact with us for the sake of her flawless image?"
FaIn beside him pretended to pucker his lips, his voice turning mocking, "But what to do? She doesn’t even need us to ruin her reputation because it’s already ruined."
"HAHAHA!" The two began to laugh together, letting out their inner joy to express themselves as they held their stomach, as if it was the funniest joke they had heard and shared with each other. Even FaIn began to pull out his wallet, throwing the black card across the smooth marble table, looking at Jiang NianNian whose face had turned as dark as the pitch black sky, "Here. You might need this, Miss Jiang. Perhaps this can lift a little of your debt burden? Consider this a way for me to thank you for your past friendship and the entertainment you provided to me."
"Should I do the same?" TaLu asked, but FaIn shook his head, answering with a thoughtful tone
"Don’t do it, TaLu," FaIn said, eyeing her. "Sometimes, peasants will take advantage of you if you are a bit too nice to them."
"Fuck you-" Jiang NianNian’s eyes flashed as she saw the thick alcohol bottle from the corner of her eyes. She had pulled it upward, lifting it on her hand, and then glared at him. TaLu and FaIn let out a whistle, seemingly uncaring that she was threatening to hit them with the bottle, which could have cracked their skull. Seeing their ease had made him become more annoyed, and with clenched teeth, she raised his hand, ready to smash his head to pieces.
However, no matter how hard she had tried to smash the said bottle downward, her wrist didn’t seem to budge. When she looked to her back, she was met with the taller man whose eyes were ice cold as he stared at her behavior, judging it as if he was disappointed in it. But that wasn’t why she was scared of him and why her body suddenly shivered and she had flinched three steps back while releasing her hold on the bottle.
It’s because this man in front of her had shown what he would do to those who don’t act the way he wanted.
"H- HaiZe," she muttered, the look of shock upon seeing his face clear on her eyes. He had called her here, so he should be here, that’s for certain, but seeing his face in such a close proximity brought a lot of memories to her head, those that scared her a little.
He didn’t answer her, his gaze shifting back to TaLu and FaIn as he announced, "Don’t cross the line, you two."
TaLu and FaIn wasn’t scared of Bai HaiZe but for those two rowdy guys to suddenly drop their playful act and turn serious while nodding their heads to show that they promise that they would now began to act the way Bai HaiZe wanted was rather off putting.
Bai HaiZe has always been a perfectly flawless young man.
Flawless because at times he didn’t even feel like a young man.
Unlike most of the guys in his age, he was someone who would always visit the temples to pray, he would never skip a day of charity, and he would never turn away anyone in need. Basically he was a saint. Such Saintly young man had never partake in anything that could harm others or even his body. This was known as he rarely touches alcohol and never wanted to smoke.
But it wasn’t because he is discipline that he chose this life.
Jiang NianNian knew about it.
She knew about Bai HaiZe’s insane controlling personality. He had lived his life with a list. Lists of things he should do and things he couldn’t do. He followed that list to his heart, making sure that he should live that way in that certain idea.
At first you would think that it’s nothing bad with allowing yourself to live in such a controlled scheduled, that’s not until they heard the entire details of his "lists".
Jiang NianNian had been one of those people, at first. She had thought Bai HaiZe was simply a disciplined man, someone who valued structure, tradition, and morality. A rare breed in their world, where wealth often led to indulgence, excess, and recklessness.
But then she saw the lists.
Not just a simple schedule or a planner filled with goals, no, Bai HaiZe’s life was ruled by a meticulous, almost obsessive set of rules, written in perfect, uniform handwriting. A doctrine of self imposed control. But underneath that perfect exterior lay something unsettling.
He didn’t follow this strict regimen because he was virtuous. No, it was because he had to.
Bai HaiZe lived by a list, an exhaustive, suffocating guide of musts and must nots, self imposed rules that dictated his every move.
And the most disturbing part?
Jiang NianNian had seen the lengths he would go to in order to enforce those rules, not just on himself, but on others.
He even described the woman he decided to marry. He decided what she should wear, how she should act, and he even wrote it clearly that he doesn’t allow for the girl to act out of the lists he had prepared, an insane controlling behavior which he had managed to hide.
When things don’t go his way, what would he do you asked?
He would everything in his power to have it goes on his way. No matter if it means bullying or causing the girl you love be assaulted by other men.
That’s him.
Jiang NianNian recalled how he had smiled while waiting for her and her friends to finish bullying AiLin. When she left the room, she had walked past him and saw his face that was wide with smile. He pretended to rush to AiLin in such time of need and then took care of her lovingly when in truth his eyes were looking at her like a little toy.
"Have a seat, Nian Nian," he said, his tone offering but his eyes didn’t look like he had offered her the seat but demanded her to take a seat.
Jiang NianNian sat on the couch uncomfortably. She looked at him with a frown as even though her family was currently panicking about money, she hadn’t felt the extent to it thanks to the money that she had secured for herself. It’s the money that even her parents don’t know and if things go South, she was certain her foster parents from the previous house would be willing to help her live her life until she find a young wealthy man she could marry.
That was why she still had her pride sky high even in front of TaLu and FaIn’s taunt.
She spoke quickly, "If this is about you asking me to do something to AiLin in exchange for money, note that I won’t do it. I hate her but I will do it because I want to, not because I was paid by you. I’m not that dirt cheap."
Su HaiTan had poured the glass with oolong tea quietly listening to her, "You know that she is the same AiLin?"
Bitter recalling AiLin who had tricked her at first, she scoffed, "I do. She hides well but not for too long. She is now riding someone else’s coattail. You know? The guy who once visited her back in high school. I thought his face was somewhat familiar then I remembered, wasn’t he the one who kept trying to stop us from bullying her even though he came from another school?"
"Ah yes, Li Zi Chen," Bai HaiZe answered while she looked over him, realizing that he seemed to be upset though he tried to control it. "Have you looked into the reason why the project that your family had started suddenly going South?"
"Because of that crazy Lu Ping’s family..." she saw a change in his expression that made her frown, "Why? What are you getting at?"
"You still haven’t realized anything Jiang NianNian," he sighed as he put down a few documents and in a rush, she had pulled one of it, finding the picture of AiLin who was sitting in front of Lu Ping, with a triumphant smile.
Jiang NianNian’s anger shoot over the roof as her hands trembled while clenching to the papers tight around her hand, "That bitch- That fucking bitch! Lu Ping is working for AiLin?!"
"No," Bai HaiZe answered, "AiLin managed to push Lu Ping into working for her. You should be careful NianNian. As you must have understood by now, all the misfortune that you went through was all calculated by AiLin. I suspect that she had came back, created a contract with Li ZiChen, all so she could enact her revenge toward you and your family. If you don’t believe me you can check it on your own from all these documents though I doubt you ever need it as I have never lied to you."
