Chapter 185: Shiny Objects
Chapter 185: Shiny Objects
When AiLin was home, she quickly opened her purse and pushed more coins inside her bright pink piggy bank. She giggled seeing that the piggybank was taking her coins well, meaning soon she’ll have enough saving.
Walking past by her, Li ZiChen looked at it and commented, "Still doing that? I can give you pocket money if you need. What are you saving for?"
"I’m saving for nothing but for my own happiness," she answered as she raised her piggy bank toward him, "Don’t you understand that immense happiness of cracking a piggybank and seeing allll the money you have acquired all throughout the long time you spend filling the piggybank with money?"
Li ZiChen chuckled softly, "Maybe I should have a piggybank too. Where did you pick up this hobb- tsk," as he walked toward the couch he then frowned and hissed.
She saw that he had hit his knuckle on the couch and quickly rushed up to him, "What’s wrong? As I thought maybe we should have brought you to the doctor? It worries me, I’m worried that the wound is far too deep. How did you manage to hit he wall so hard?"
"If I didn’t hit the wall, I would have smashed his head again," he responded in ease with a matter of fact tone. She had took his hands and gently held it, her eyes soft and Li ZiChen had always liked this gaze of her, so sweetly and lovingly.
Such purity in human form- so straightforward, so honest. Yet she couldn’t bring herself to love the broken pieces of herself, the very ones that seemed to draw him in, pushing him to protect her. If he could truly prove his love for her, embracing even her fractured parts, wouldn’t that give her the strength to finally love herself?
All Li ZiChen wanted was to become the liquid that could fill the gaps of her heart that had been shattered, to glue them tight together in place so she would shine again. If it means allowing her to shine again, every sacrifice is worth the pain.
"You should be careful alright? Don’t lose your cool like that again," she said as she looked at his wounds by opening the gauze. The wounds were really gnarly thankfully he didn’t break any bones but the wound was deep enough to turn the gauze they had just put on red with blood. So she had went to take a new gauze and had him seated on the living room while she attends to his wound.
"I can’t help it," he said to her, staring at her head, "You know it too, I don’t take it well when I hear that you’re hurt by someone."
"Doesn’t mean that you have to risk everything by pummeling Su HaiTan to a pulp. Besides, you two spoke like you were once close. Do you know him well?" She decided to ask the question after some thought and thankfully Li ZiChen replied to her honestly,
"No, more like a walking mirror?"
Raising one eyebrow, she repeated, "Mirror?"
Li ZiChen continued to explain her, "There are a lot of things similar about me and him, don’t you think so?"
She narrowed before shaking her head slowly, "I can’t say I notice anything similar."
He chuckled and that laughter tickled her heart. She patted her chest to keep quiet as he answered her, "Born of a wealthy family, the precious son who will soon inherit the company, and both with similar problems in life where they could be classified as either unique or freaks."
"Who? you?" AiLin couldn’t believe it. "Why were you a freak?"
"Because at age twelve I sat on my father’s chair and lead the whole board into an urgent meeting when I received a call that both my parents were kidnapped. I managed to upheld the peace in the company and calm the entire family, all alone at the age of twelve. Some praise me for my intellect but isn’t it freaky to see a twelve year old child so calm even after hearing the kidnappers demanding thousand of hundreds of dollars in exchange for his parent’s safety?"
Shock by what she heard, she froze with two hands in front of her chest like a rabbit caught by the ears. She leaned forward and repeated, "Your parents, kidnapped?"
"False alarm because those kidnappers couldn’t last an hour after claiming kidnapping my parents before both my dad and mother kille- defeated all of them."
She pretty certain she heard something dangerous being brushed over.
"Twelve.. you’re really smart and calm for your age, Zi Chen," she remarked. "I would have cowered under pressure."
"Of course I was like that too, I was scared but I am the eldest son of the family, the heir of such a conglomerate group. I can’t easily let others take over the control to the company. It will be the same as allowing inflitrators to take over all the things my father had built from scratch. I can’t show a single mistake, one flaw means the end of my father’s hardwork."
AiLin saw how he was clenching and unclenching his hands. Perhaps Li ZiChen was just normal like them except he was burdened with so much responsibility since a young age that he had learnt not to prioritize himself unless it was for the company’s sake.
Maybe that was the reason why he seemed immune to pain or shock, because he was always prepared to expect for the worse and deep down he had forgot how to feel scared or hurt anymore.
"You admire your father don’t you?" she said while smiling as she admired his love for his family. His love for them tells her that she could be at ease if she was in his hands.
"A lot," he said, honest with his words, "Other than that, Su HaiTan is quite similar. He was well known for being a calm child who never cried. There was that accident too where he had helped Elder Hua from a car accident and had helped her insulin injection."
"That happened?" she tilted her head, "Is that why Elder Hua is so favorable toward him?"
"That could be the reason," he nodded, "They were already close before then and one day Elder Hua got into a car accident about a year after she tried to kill me. Su HaiTan who had rode the car behind her as they both had gone to the same restaurant quickly saved her even though he was still young. He also took her insulin medicine and injected it in time of need and since that accident whatever Su HaiTan wish or beg, Elder Hua will make it happen."
Just thinking about the dinner conversation was enough to make AiLin shudder again. Though he had said he was joking, Elder Hua had took it seriously. She was upset that Su HaiTan took a liking to AiLin but the moment HaiTan remarked how they could be a real family if he had married her, Elder Hua agreed in almost less than five seconds.
Surely... no, that won’t happen.
There would be no way for Elder Hua to force her to marry Su HaiTan, her beloved golden boy.
"We have crossed path numerous times but it always ends up sour, though he always like to get on my case," Li ZiChen tapped under his chin, "We can ask YanLan later to see what he could bring up about Su HaiTan if you need."
"I might need that! Thank you," she said in advance as he shook his head.
"No worries, it’s nothing. It’s my thank for taking care of my wound," he raised his hands that were neatly wrapped with bandage, "YanLan will also follow you tomorrow as you go to the acting site. You don’t mind that, do you?"
"No, I understand that it would be better to go with him. Besides, he’s a fun person, I don’t mind his company."
"fun," repeated Li ZiChen as his lips seemed to be pressed in displeasure. "I hope you don’t have too much fun with him."
She chuckled, "Owh come on. Good night Zi Chen."
Li ZiChen watched as she brought the medicine box back to her room. His eyes gentle as he said, "Good night AiLin."
Meanwhile far from their apartment there was a white car that drove fast from the Imperial Hospital. Sitting on the chair of the back seat was Su HaiTan whose face was wrapped in bandages. His eyes were purple as Li ZiChen had given him a black eye while a part of his jaw was fractured by a mere three punches thrown by Li ZiChen.
Even the doctors thought that a professional boxer had somehow came to tussle with Su HaiTan after seeing the injury.
Beside him was Elder Hua whose face was ashen, "I should have known to put that little dog to his death when he’s younger. He was an eyesore ever since my first meeting with him. How dare he hurt your precious face so badly?!"
"Calm down grandmother," Su HaiTan smiled while placing one hand on his left jaw, "Why would you expect him to know manner after such a long time? Besides this wounds are worth it."
"Worth it?" Elder Hua repeated with a frown furrowing her white eyebrows. The old woman reiterated, "Your jaw is fractured, your eyes is blackened one more hit and he would have caused an impared sight."
"But now we know that AiLin is everything to Li ZiChen," said Su HaiTan who had smiled while looking at the night sky outside the window. The stars that dimmed seemed to be scared of his presence as he liked shiny things. Throughout his life he had never failed taking all the beautiful items that had taken his interest. This time it’s AiLin.
"Do you want AiLin?" Elder Hua inquired as Su HaiTan turned to her, face wide with smile, his eyes dark with malice.
"I do, grandmother can you really give AiLin to me?"
