Chapter 179: The Elderly Woman

By the time XanXi had came back, he was surprised to see how Vicky was crying and how AiLin was slightly teary eyed. But she remained smiling as the rest of the dinner continued. While eating and chatting, AiLin excused herself to the bathroom when suddenly she saw Jiang NianNian who seemed to be walking out of a room without a sour face. She was holding to a cigarette despite the restaurant clearly telling no smoking inside the building. AiLin smiled and walked past by Jiang NianNian who noticed her presence rather belatedly. Upon realizing who had stepped in front of her, Jiang NianNian’s face paled but she quickly snapped her eyes into a glare and blocked AiLin’s path.

"You’re here again!" Jiang NianNian raised her voice, "What do you plan to do again?"

A strong fragrance of alcohol waft in front of her nose and she realized that Jiang NianNian was dead drunk. It was also the reason why she had been smoking here and how all the staff seemed to be watching her from afar, holding their breaths as they didn’t want her to smoke but didn’t dare to stop her. AiLin stared into Jiang NianNian’s eyes that seemed to recognize her not as the Hua AiLin but the weak Jiang AiLin.

"Why?" She asked her, the corners of her lips twisting upward into a grin that further vexed Jiang NianNian. "Do you fear that I will come here to ruin your life like you did to mine?"

Jiang NianNian scoffed as she stepped her red heels forward, "I ruined your life? Let’s make this clear AiLin. The person who had ruined her life is yourself. Honestly I wasn’t too surprised finding out that you had killed someone the night father and mother had kicked you out of the house. This is because deep down I am sure that someone like you who had killed her own baby would have no problem in killing another life."

AiLin’s eyes immediately turned red. She raised her hands upward and pushed Jiang NianNian to the wall, her hands grappling around the witch who had spoken so easily about her abortion as though it was her wish. She didn’t want to lose her baby! Despite knowing the danger that comes with giving birth in such a young age, she didn’t want to lose the baby that shared her blood, a small innocent child who is her own blood and flesh.

Yet what did the Jiang Family did to her? Forced her to abortion because they were scared of having their reputation ruined!

Was it not enough to simply kick her out of the family house? To take away everything that she had worked hard for?

To side with this girl who had came out of nowhere and accept her immediately simply because they were related by blood?

"How dare you," through her gritted teeth, AiLin slammed Jiang NianNian’s body as if it was a doll to the nearby wall. The powerful slam caused Jiang NianNian’s head to swerve and her eyes to sunk from the shock. She was drunk but the pain that dully hit her back immediately brought her to sober. "You! Out of all people to utter that?"

AiLin slammed Jiang NianNian’s body again to the wall. Unlike her, Jiang NianNian lived in luxury ever since she returned to the Jiang Family. She doesn’t like to sweat during exercise and lived in such a privilege that she never had to worry about her safety. It was also why she was unfamiliar with pain and violence and why she was so easy to cower when she felt pain.

She wanted to scream from help, her eyes turning to the bystander staff who had only came alone with a bottle of alcohol. She couldn’t muster a voice from her throat that was pressed hard by AiLin’s fingers but since the staff had seen the violence, the rest of the people would definitely come to help her... or so thought Jiang NianNian as she watched the staff who fearfully stared at AiLin, wanting to stop her at first but after looking at the person who was in trouble being Jiang NianNian, the staff walked away in quietness, catching glances to the CCTV as if relieved that she wouldn’t be caught in it.

Jiang NianNian’s eyes were filled with confusion, after all, she was in trouble yet the staff seemed to put not concern for her safety.

AiLin chuckled and whispered beside Jiang NianNian’s ears, "Surprised?" She bent her neck slightly forward and pressed her lips that was trying so hard not to grin too widely. She looked back into Jiang NianNian’s eyes and relish in the fear that shook Jiang NianNian’s soul, "Do you really think that people will help you when you’re in trouble? Why do they have to? Because you look so pitiful and pathetic in need of help? Well, here is the deal Jiang NianNian. No one really care whether you are in danger or not. At first they might feel compelled to help but after thinking that there’s no benefit in helping someone and that will only cause them further burden, they will easily step away, yeah like all the bystanders that had once turn a blind eye when I beg them for help."

The trembling lips of Jiang NianNian made AiLin to question why someone so easily scared and so weak was someone she feared so much during high school? Was it because this woman had more control over everyone in the school? Or was it all in her head? Perhaps all this time, Jiang NianNian is a simply sneaky and frightened young woman but it was the fear that had made her someone so much bigger and scarier than herself.

Then was her real enemy someone so weak and pathetic?

"Y- You really are.. Jiang Ailin."

Ailin didn’t plan to drop her identity now but she had reacted negatively upon hearing her angelic baby’s death being brought up again by the one responsible for the death. It was Jiang NianNian who had rushed to Jiang Family, pretending to be innocent and caring about her pregnant belly while saying that everyone in the school had began to mutter gossips that she was pregnant, causing the Jiang Family to snap in fear and forced the abortion on her, paying the doctor a huge sum of money to keep him quiet.

"Does it matter? Will you fear me more now that you know the Jiang AiLin you wish is dead is still alive?" AiLin smiled when she saw Jiang NianNian’s jaw falling slack and how small her pupils had shrunk from all the shock and then she lowered her face, "How does it feel begging for help when your life is in danger yet no one wants to dip their hands into saving you, Jiang NianNian? Don’t you wonder yourself how many people who would rush to help you when you’re nothing more than a NianNian? Not a daughter of a rich family, not a friend who is rich and famous, but just a simple NianNian. I wonder how many people will help you once all those status of yours are stripped away."

"AiLin..." Jiang NianNian fiercely twisted her face. Despite fearing AiLin’s anger, she seemed angrier to see that the woman who should have always been beneath her now daring to talk to her back. She bared her teeth, smiling in sarcasm, "Do you think simply because you changed your identity you could run away from your past? You’re nothing but a woman who killed her own child and another innocent life. That mark will always haunt you and I’ll make sure that you would never have a life where you can run away from those sins. Haha.. hahahhahahhAHHAHAH!"

AiLin sighed and released Jiang NianNian from her hand. As she walked away, she heard Jiang NianNian shouting, "You’re going to pay for ruining my parties AiLin! Jiang Family is still powerful while you are nothing but a bitch who sold her body to someone like Li ZiChen for your revenge! That’s what you are— a pathetic dirty slut who’s been used by many people!"

AiLin turned a deaf ear to all the shouting, walking toward the door back to the dining room where Vicky and XanXi was supposed to be but once she had opened the door, she was surprised to see a familiar young man’s face, the face of the young man who was once a close friend to Jiang NianNian.

It was Su HaiTan, the beloved young master of Beijing. He was dressed neatly in a tracksuit that gave him a more youthful look while he spoke with a delightful smile to an elderly woman who was dressed in a traditional Chinese dress. Her neck was covered with clusters of gold chain and necklace there were even more jade bracelet that filled her wrinkly right arm.

Though the woman’s face was so unfamiliar, AiLin felt as if she knew the woman almost instantly by just a glance.

Perhaps it’s because of the elderly woman’s similarity that looked uncannily similar to her birth mother, Hua Valentine.

While she was still trying to grasp her surroundings, Su HaiTan noticed her the moment her face entered the room, his eyes wide and a delightful smile spread from the middle of his lips to the corners. He stood up, pushing himself from the round table and greeted her with the loudest voice while she felt her heart sinking in realizing that she might have stepped into a dangerous room without paying any attention.

"AiLin! You’re also here?!"
