Mrs Fox Heinous Revenge: Can You Love A Villainess like Me? -
Chapter 168: Family Gathering
Chapter 168: Family Gathering
A very normal passive and aggressive comment! AiLin was used to seeing this behaviors from people around her so she wasn’t actually surprised to see someone like this woman who would come to her to undermine her value and maximise on all her flaws. She was instead curious of how this would play out so she sat around with a soft smile, pretending to be dumb and oblivious to the remarks made to her. She tilted her head faintly, "Thank you for saying that I’m beautiful. Zi Chen does have a great eyes to look and appreciate beautiful things. Though sometimes there are still spec of dirts that would annoy him since he hates seeing anything disorganized or dirty."
The woman’s smile faltered as she frowned, "Are you saying that I’m a dirt?"
"Did I say that?" She frowned, looking completely confused while staring at the older woman in front of her. She shook her head, "No, I would never. Look at yourself, you’re pretty aren’t you? For your age in the fifties, I have to say you look quite young."
"How— How could you?!" The woman snapped, "I’m on my thirties!"
"Oh.. I’m sorry," AiLin pursed her lips, looking defeated. "That could never happen if I’m more careful. I’m really sorry," she spoke amiably as if she was truly make a harmless mistake. With this, even the women in front of her who were so ready to fight her step back and thought that she was really making a mistake that she wasn’t doing on purpose. They pursed their lips and looked at each other, confused and questioning if they were making a mistake.
Taking the confusion to her advantage, Ailin cut off, "My name is AiLin, may I know yours?"
"I’m Zi Chen’s third aunt."
Aunt. Though they said "aunt" AiLin had heard the family structure of Li ZiChen’s family. In particular, she heard about his father who was the only son of the family and how his grandfather and grandmother had also died in an accident which made his great grandfather and great grandmother to be very protective of the death of their only son.
To put it simply, they’re the sons and daughters of Li ZiChen’s great grandfather’s siblings.
And to put it more simply, they can’t even be count as Li ZiChen’s real aunt and uncles, barely knowing or holding a hold over Li ZiChen’s life.
She wanted to scoff at the proud woman’s words and not wanting to waste her memory in remembering their name, she named them based on their order number.
The proudest woman who had called her up is the "Third Aunt" the other is silver one and two. She called them silver because they’re too distant of a family member to even be count an aunt or uncle.
Third Aunt spoke to her, "You seem to come from Hua Family. So you must be aware of how your grandmother had been treating my nephew, don’t you?"
AiLin smiled.
What was this fool talking?
Does she want to make it clear to everyone in the room that she had a grandmother who had tried to kill her now future husband? So she could raise the animosity that had been buried?
These people... she shrugged her shoulders inwardly, and wouldn’t have bothered to take care of it but since this is Li ZiChen’s family, she had to do what needs to be done.
With an innocent smile like a Lilly flower, she answered softly, "I am, not sure.. my grandmother despises all the female line of the family. I’ve never seen her either ever since..."
"Ever since what?" The Third aunt was annoyed by her words that seemed slow and too innocent as if she’s too innocent it would look awkward, as if she was bullying her when the truth is she was really bullying AiLin who was new to the family.
"She tried to kill my mother," she whispered and her words sounded spoken with so much heartache and sadness that everyone around could feel that the Third aunt was bullying on AiLin as much as she could, pouncing on her because she’s alone and li ZiChen was far from her.
Another woman had came and chided, "CaiTai. Haven’t we talked about being nice to the new daughter in law of the family?"
"What are you, don’t speak with that tone to me Dan. If it’s not for the fact I’m doing this first, you’ll do the same."
The two aunts glared at each other and Ailin watched it peacefully as if she wasn’t the one being picked on this entire time as she didn’t feel that their behavior was anything frightening compared to the time when she was bullied during high school. Though if she had to comment was how embarrassing they were for trying to pressure her like a high school girls when their ages were a perfect double of it.
The third aunt humphed before staring at AiLin, "I’m not convinced. You must have done some voodoo to Zi Chen. The fact is, your grandmother had tried to hurt him and now you’re here to make sure you can finish her job right?"
"No," AiLin shook her head innocently, "I don’t like my grandmother either and as you have said, Zi Chen is extremely smart. I doubt he would take me as his chosen one if he knew that I am up to something bad that would harm the family."
The third aunt gritted her teeth, "You have ways with your mouth girl but that’s not how it goes in this family. Everyone who is younger should always respect the elders. So when I tell you to go to the kitchen and make me tea, you would go instantly."
"It’s only tea," AiLin shrugged, "Do you like Jasmine, Camomile, or perhaps the vanilla one?"
Jaw wide open, the third aunt seemed speechless by her cocky yet innocent behavior. The third aunt had only spoke to show her authority but AiLin took it seriously, even saying that she would make any kind of teas that she want. This made her only seem witty without being rude or necessarily trying to drive a rift between the family members despite being instigated into a fight. The third aunt stared at her with a hard gaze when someone came over and took the situation to her own hands, "My, my, my CaiTai, I know you’re worried about Zi Chen because you took care of him since he was born but come on let’s not frighten the sweet lady he brought home okay? There might be issues with the Hua Family, but none of us had ever had a strong evidence that Elder Hua was behind it."
Third aunt spat to the ground angrily, "What do you mean no evidence?! There was evidence, it’s just that old witch had made sure to erase it!"
"Still to be hard on the young lady because she’s a family member of Elder Hua is..."
"I’m worried for my nephew!" She scoffed when looking at AiLin’s eyes that were large and appeared innocent. Faltering after looking at AiLin’s eyes she cleared her throat and snapped her head to the left side, "Fine. You’ll all just regret it after you have suffered! I’m keeping an eye on you AiLin!"
The third aunt stomped her red heels across the floor and made her way from the living room to the ancestral hall. AiLin watched as how she coughed before covering her mouth with a handkerchief, swatting away the two aunts who seemed to be following behind her as if they were attached by the hip. AiLin then turned at the lady who had helped her who had a gentle smile on her lips.
"Being an in law is pretty unnerving isn’t it?" She sat down beside AiLin, her hair curled short that it exposed her frail neck. She smiled again when their eyes met and AiLin noticed the mole under her eyes. It was quite similar to the one that Third Aunt had on her face but unlike the third aunt’s mole that seemed to be drawn by an eyeliner, the lady in front of her had a real mole. "I understand you since I was also as worried as you were when I first stepped into this household with my now husband."
"Indeed it is unnerving, I was a little nervous but I feel relieved after seeing everyone is so kind to me." To this, the woman was surprised especially after she had just been bullied out in the open.
But AiLin didn’t really care that the Third Aunt was rude to her, in fact she didn’t care if the woman had spoken even more violent words to her. The funny thing was that the Third Aunt seems to be physically unable to say any profanities from her own mouth, only able to say things to pressure others by using passive aggressive advances. She wouldn’t even count Third Aunt’s words as bullying as the woman seemed fully convinced that she was a spy of her grandmother who had tried to kill Li ZiChen, a true thing to be worried about even if the action she took did briefly annoyed her.
AiLin recalled again to Li ZiChen’s words of how that there are those family members who wish that they could take over the Li Family. So the third aunt being passive aggressive doesn’t matter to her. What matters is if Third Aunt also wishes to take control of the company by using underhanded methods. Therefore unless they prove to be a complete threat to Li ZiChen, AiLin remain quiet and endure the pressure as if they were a gust of air brushing against her cheeks.
