Chapter 167: House of a Warm Family

AiLin was happy but also shy. She couldn’t word out how happy she was that Zi Chen’s mother was as kind as him, so tender and loving. She pressed her fingers together, trying to hide her smile before it grows too wide as it would make herself look too creepy for eyes to follow. She then turned toward the house and muttered, "This is really the most beautiful house I have ever seen."

"Really? I’m glad that you think so, my husband and I took a while to design this house," said Mrs Li as she looked around the courtyard, "It’s quite far from the city because we had to get a land large enough to accommodate the design but it’s not too far to drive here, is it?"

"No it wasn’t," she answered and felt the tightening around her hands from Mrs Li.

"Then be sure to come here often, if Zi Chen ever makes you feel upset, I’m here to listen to you, don’t worry I will be on your side instead of his!"

AiLin chuckled ands she shyly replied, "You’re really such a great person, Mrs. Li, thank you so much for accepting me."

"I should be the one to tell you thank you for accepting Zi Chen as he is," she turned behind to look at her son and softly sighed, "Since young he’s quite different from others. He’s too mature, he never complaints, and as a baby he never cried even if he was to fall from a tall tree late at night. Everyone around me praised him for his maturity, saying how lucky I am to be a mother of such a sensible and mature child, how I should not be worried if I have such a perfect son like him."

AiLin nodded, listening in carefully as she had heard from Zi Chen that his mother worries his personality that was far too restricted, worrying that they were the one who had caused this on him, to be more mature than his own age which calme at the cost of his childhood. But ZiChen had assured her he wasn’t truly restricted and had never felt forced.

"A mature child can be worrying but with such a great environment, I’ll say that his maturity came from his admiration after seeing his parents who were so good to each other and how loving they were."

Mrs Li looked at her with a slightly widened eyes and then smiled, "Yes, but it was my first time ever having a child, I was unsure. Especially since like you, I had grown up in abusive household. I was always so worried that there is a blood in me that was as heinous as my parents. I was always worried, always so afraid, if one day Zi Chen would come to me and tell me that I was the cause of his sufferings and miseries, I probably would have broke down terribly. So I was always trying to encourage him to be more selfish, until one day he was selfish."

AiLin turned as the change in Mrs. Li’s tone seemed very different, like a bad bad omen.

"Zi Chen once had a tutor. One day he suddenly attacked the said tutor and I thought this was his way of showing that he could be selfish, but it was a terrible kind of selfishness by hurting others. I panicked and I feared that this was all my fault for forcing him into being a mature child. Many people around me began to tell me that I had been so wrong in raising him, that my methods were the one to cause him to suddenly become violent. Some other therapists who called they are the best therapists in Beijing even told me that if this goes on, Zi Chen would become someone so horrible and someone who wouldn’t care about other’s feelings and cannot sympathize, turning him apathetic, and worse of all, perhaps he would develop antisocial behaviors."

"But that tutor," Ailin frowned, she knew the same tutor had been assaulting Zi Chen, something that she had heard from him directly.

Mrs Li was apparently surprised she knew but didn’t detailed out and nodded, "We knew about it after the incident. He.. had a long phase where he couldn’t touch anyone, and if someone had touched his neck or hugged his waist from the back without his knowings, he would unknowingly jump to his feet, break down to cold sweat, or hit the other person in question then shiver for hours on ends like someone who had been poured ice cold water during a snowy season."

AiLin could imagine what he had gone through and the whiplash of the incident of his assault. Seeing how young it was when it happened and how mature he was for his age, he knew it was something filthy that was done to him by his tutor, that grating filthiness would remain on the skin of all the victims who had been assaulted, causing them to not only hate the perpetrators but also themselves who had been sullied and stained from their innocents. It was an indescribably disgusting feeling for your body to be taken control by someone else, that someone would use your body for their own satisfaction, while leaving you dirty in the end.

"He was healed not long after but he still has similar backlashes of that incident. No one could hug him or touch his neck from the back until now. He can touch women but he would get a little too alerted when a woman try to push their ways to his space," Mrs Li explained, "That was why for me to hear that he had allowed a woman to his life, I was beyond ecstatic but also worried, I don’t want anyone to hurt my son but I don’t want my son to cause a harm to the woman he loves either. However seeing you two earlier under that persimmon tree, I have a feeling that you both have chosen each other and I’m glad to find you as his partner."

Words can’t tell how much AiLin was touched by the woman’s words. She gulped and fiddled with her hands, shyly nodding her head in response, "I can assure you that Zi Chen had never once hurt me. He had been very patient.. it’s something I was surprised because no one was ever so patient to me before. He never blamed me for doing things wrong, he encouraged me to pick up on my desires that I have left out. I am the one who is worried that I am not enough for him."

"Oh you," Mrs Li shook her head, "No, you’re not. You’re everything that we could have wished for. Zi Chen always find the right person and I can tell he had chosen you because he knew how you are deep down."

AiLin pursed her lips, her smile widening as warmth bubbled into her heart. After the courtyard, they arrived to the living room. Several people had already taken a seat around the place, drinking tea while chatting but all came to a stop when they entered. They first looked at Mrs. Li apprehensively then gladly at Zi Chen before turning to her lastly with a look of narrowed gazes.

Ailin knew instantly that they must be the uncles and aunts of Li ZiChen.

Mrs. Li let her take a seat and muttered how she would now go to find her husband who must have been engrossed to his works unknowingly again. She bid her goodbye to Mrs Li and found that Li ZiChen had already been ambushed by his family even though his expression looked sour as they had stopped him from reaching to AiLin any quicker. He was going to push them physically which alerted her and she shook her head, whispering, "Just talk to them, I’m not that fragile, you know."

Li ZiChen frowned and then sighed in resignation as he was forced to entertain his uncles who were all eager to get on his good side, some to either control him or to butter him up and became blessed with his grace. They had done this since he was young. Some trying to sway his opinion and others trying to beg for his pity though he had learned from his father that none of it was ever true if he was able to read clearly to their expressions.

"A new face," someone rang up beside her, holding a tea as she stood in front of AiLin who was seated. The woman frowned as AiLin was trying to study her face, knowing her manners, she stood up and took the tea before greeting the woman with a smile.

"Nice to meet you," she greeted and the woman finally showed a proud smile, accompanied by the other two women each beside her left and right side.

"You do look quite the pretty one," said the woman who had called up to her, "As expected no one in Li Family had ever failed when it comes to choosing looks. Even though they might have a flaw in choosing the woman’s personality."
