Chapter 164: Possibly Hurt Me

AiLin stopped what she was doing and just stared at Li ZiChen.

Questions flooded into her mind.

’How long do you think I have loved you for?’

An odd question and an odd sentence. As she thought she and Li ZiChen had really met before in her past. She didn’t know when and how, perhaps she couldn’t even remembered it now that she had found out from Dr. Mei that her memories were missing. So that would mean she had forgotten about Li ZiChen and how they met before.

For some reason this caused her heart to ache. Like something stabbing her heart and she couldn’t gather whether it’s guilt or conscience. She only thought of how saddening was it for Li ZiChen to love someone like her, so unavailable, so ugly, and now so broken.

She pursed her lips, hesitating her questions but asked regardless, "How did we meet?" She had just gathered her entire courage to ask those words but in the end found herself staring at Li ZiChen who had gone back deep to sleep. Her heart was racing like thunder across her chest, her throat dry and her lips stung even worse as she had been biting on it tightly.

She sighed, ruffling her hair. There was no use in asking Li ZiChen while he’s asleep. She would gather more courage and ask him when he’s awake, she thought to herself. Yes. When he’s awake. She laid back on the bed, her eyes wide as she stared at the ceiling as she gathered all the memories she had during her middle school years and high school.

She remembered it quite well actually, well to her own surprise that was wrong.

But how could she possibly forgot ever meeting someone like Li ZiChen? He’s someone who can turns head, someone who would be etched to your memories once you have seen him for a long time. Like a piece of gem that had glittered so brightly across your eyes that even though you cant afford it, you’ll find yourself dreaming and thinking about it again when someone asked you of the most beautiful gem in the world.

He was that type of person, someone whose presence can’t be dampened even if you try desperately to do so.

She tossed around in the bed, wondering what it was that had made Li ZiChen to love her as she doesn’t think it was her look that had caused him to like her. So was it her action?

She sighed softly as thinking had proven nothing of help and began to snuggle to her pillows, falling asleep instead. When she woke up again, Li ZiChen had moved from the bed and she dressed up quickly, rushing toward her room only to see him who was standing topless in the kitchen. The fragrant scent of coffee covered the kitchen to the living room as he brewed the coffee meticulously. Then he lifted his head as if noting her presence though she had made no noise.

Her cheeks reddened as she saw the tabletop, recalling all the things they had done the other night. Did he clean up all on his own?

She nervously walked toward the kitchen, not knowing what to say and what was right to utter. As she fiddled with her fingers, nervously waiting for him to speak, he offered her the coffee and gently picked up the rice bowl in front of her. He then spoke in an even tone as if nothing had happened, "My parents have arrived back in their villa and they want to see you. Do you mind going this weekend with me to see them?"

AiLin blinked, surprised, and have nothing to say other than nodding her head, "Of course," after all from outsider’s view they’re a couple and perhaps this was an image he wanted to keep to his family to keep himself from bothersome relationship matches. "I have heard about them, how amazing they are."

Li ZiChen smiled wide, "They are, my mother is a famous singer who had made her name in the country and overseas, my father had made our family company to prosper in ways that our ancestors could only dream of," as he sat down he drank his coffee, "My grandparents are nice people too, though I think you would only be seeing my parents and a few of my father’s cousins. I don’t like my uncles and aunts too much but they know that they shouldn’t mess with you."

AiLin grinned, "How bad is your uncles and aunts? Couldn’t be more worse than Mrs and Mr Jiang, right?"

"In a way perhaps they are the same," he answered to her joke, surprising her. He then placed a slice of neatly folded fried egg on top of her rice as she took it to eat. "My uncles and aunts are quite the desperate and greedy bunch. All they want is to have their clutches on the company. It’s a headache honestly especially since my grandfather is stepping down completely from the office and now my father is being pressured by the family to do his upmost while finding all faults they could ever search for."

"Oh," AiLin pursed her lips, "But your father has done well, and even amazing at that, so how could they find faults in him?"

"He doesn’t need to make faults," Li ZiChen said pointedly, "All he has to do is live his life like normals and they would be the one to plant the mistakes. That grappled to me and JingYi. If one of us were found to make a single flaw, my father would be the one to suffer the blow."

"That’s concerning," she frowned, "What’s their names? Should I keep a tab on them? If your mistakes will be written off as your father’s mistakes, then mine would be count as yours."

She didn’t want to come to his family and ruin his reputation, not when he had built it from scratch and made sure to do his best so his family wouldn’t be affected by the terrible and ill wills people would hold against them. She couldn’t help much to Li ZiChen but the least she could do was make sure she won’t be a stone that cause him to stumble to his fall.

"Don’t worry about them," he whispered, placing his hand gently on top of her palms, "What matters most is to make yourself comfortable in the house. Don’t worry about anything since I’ll be the one to take care of it."

Though his words reassure her, AiLin was still dreading the idea of meeting his parents, especially if they know how many flaws she has or the fact she couldn’t be loved by her own family. She then turned to her phone, receiving a call from her sister, Vicky.

Meanwhile in the other side of Beijing, Mei Hua smashed her phone to the mirror, causing the shards to fall in front of her feet. She stared at it, anger filled her as she saw her own reflection that twist from wrath and she gritted her teeth hard.

Her phone was already shattered but it was still blinking the last message that was sent from Li JingYi’s account.

It was a brief message but one that was too concise and cold.

[Li JingYi: I hope you could remember this to your head really well, Miss Mei. If you try to pull what you have done, the next step I will take is to see you in court. The only reason I won’t do this is because your mother is a great psychiatrist and she begged us not to put you behind the bars.]

Mei Hua’s breathings were rough as she went to stomp on the same phone when the door to her room was burst open. Dr. Mei had rushed inside the room hearing the loud commotion but upon seeing her own daughter in rage while the phone blink and shows the familiar name of "Li JingYi", the woman frowned.

"I never thought that I was ever lenient to you, Mei Hua. All I ask is for you to mend your behavior and to stop being so obsessed with Mr. Li. He has made sure to let you know that he isn’t intrested in you." Dr. Mei pressed her forehead as her husband walked beside her, helping her shoulders so she wouldn’t go faint headed because of their daughter.

"Mei Hua, it seems that you still haven’t reflected on your own mistake," said her father, "Don’t you understand what you have done had almost caused JingYi to lose his life? They were our friend’s son! You disappointed me and your mother immensely yet you dont seem to feel the slightest guilt about it."

"It wasn’t my fault!" Mei Hua snapped at her parents whose faces had gone ashy from hearing her insistence on saying that she hadn’t done anything wrong. "It was that bitch! That broken bitch! Why did she have to steal ZiChen from me!? Look at how ugly, how old, and how—"

SLAP

Dr. Mei had slapped her cheeks, causing for blood to spill from her cheeks. Anger crossed the usually calm doctor as she yelled aloud, "No. I would never allow my own daughter to become someone who would cause other’s pain and nightmares. NO! If you do not want to see your own mistake then I have no choice but to do it myself."

Mei Hua’s eyes shook as she saw her mother opening the wardrobe and beginning to put all her things into a suitcase in a rush.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU CRAZY OLD HAG?!"

Dr. Mei ignored her daughter’s words and slammed the suitcase close, "You’re never stepping into my house ever again. I don’t have a daughter like you Mei Hua. I have always taught that I have taken care of you so well but I was so wrong and you have made me so disappointed. I don’t want to have a daughter who couldn’t tell what’s wrong and what’s right. Leave the house tonight."
