Chapter 156: We Meet Again

AiLin’s black hair scattered around his face, her body saddled on top of him as she had fallen right into his body. On the other hand, the young delinquent had his eyes as wide as the sun as he stared at the fairy that had rushed toward him and pushed him to the ground. He was far too shocked to react, only frozen in place as he stared at her large black eyes and those pink lips that were just a space away from his lips.

Their breaths brushed against each other’s lashes, their warmth exchanged on each other’s fingertips that were interlocked from the fall.

AiLin was too startled with what had happened, finding herself staring at the young man’s face though it was weird.

Why can’t she see his face? It was a blur. She was so certain he must have looked handsome, his eyes bore a certain warmth that oddly only shine towards her when she knew he would usually look at others with a cold glare.

Why was she sure of this when she can’t see his face?

"Done taking advantage of me?" The young delinquent asked her.

Snapping her eyes wide, she swatted backward, her body stinging as if she had just fell into a pile of nails. When their eyes met again, AiLin heard the boy’s laughter filling her ears while she stood there, staring at his face as if the time had stopped as she admired his laughter and how beautiful it looked.

The young delinquent then stood from the spot, reaching out his hand for her to take, "Let’s get your wounds addressed first."

"Wounds? I’m not wounded— AH!" She yelped when she felt his finger that had pressed to a part of her skin that had been scratched. He had grinned as he pulled her back to her feet and walked her toward the nurse room.

AiLin didn’t know why but she willingly walked behind him, calm as she felt her wrists tug so gently by his fingers. The young delinquent was always known as a troublemaker but truthfully he had never created any trouble other than for himself. Sure he smoke, he drove underage, and he seemed to be extremely closed off to the people around him. But he never raised his hands on others, he never behaved aggressively toward her either even though he dislike her nagging about his smoking behavior.

This made her convinced that this delinquent could change for good.

As he brought her to the nurse office, they realized soon that the nurse had left for lunch break. The young delinquent helped her sit on one of the beds and walked toward the glass cupboard.

"You seem familiar with this place," she commented and the young delinquent shrugged his shoulders.

"I often sneak in to sleep here so I know where most of the things are sorted at," he then walked back with a bottle of medicine that he dabbed with a cotton. He then carefully addressed her wounds only to frown when he saw the bruise on the top of her knees that was covered with her skirt. He furrowed his eyebrows, recalling the time when he had found her crying outside her own house, locked and beaten up. He pursed his lips, "Are you alright?"

She looked down on him who had knelt on the ground as he addressed her wound and tilted her head in a clear confusion, "A small fall like that won’t be enough to hurt me."

"No, I mean," he drawled after a while, "If you have anywhere else that feels hurt. I’ll help you address any of your wounds. I’ll also listen to your problems and help you out."

AiLin wondered why the young delinquent was so gentle all of a sudden but she also questioned when he hadn’t been gentle to her as now looking back, she realized that he was always gentler than others around her.

"I’ll be alright, what about you?" She asked him, "Is there a reason why you keep smoking? I heard from the teachers that before this, you weren’t such a delinquent."

As if he expected her question, the young delinquent gave her a meaningful smile, "I just needed to rebel."

"Rebel?"

He sighed and closed the medicine box beside him, "My parents they are really good to me, everyone around me are also really good to me but I never feel at peace despite being surrounded by kindness. There were other people who caused me to feel so filthy and I," he drawled for a while, "I just think that now since I’m already filthy, there’s no reason to not try the things that are also considered filthy by others."

AiLin tilted her head after hearing him, "I don’t understand it..."

He chuckled, not sounding offended as he rested his palms on the crown of her head, "It’s a complicated feelings but I promised myself that it won’t be for long. I have a younger brother, I know I can’t be a bad example to him."

"So you feel stuffy?" Pointed AiLin to him. From what it sounds to her, he sounded more exhausted than anything. As if he was pressured to be someone he isn’t and now he wanted to rebel to feel alive.

"Stuffy?" The young man briefly paused as if thinking about her words carefully in his head. Then he came with an unsure tone, "Maybe?"

The two were still a third year middle school student who still hadn’t known much about life. They weren’t sure about their own emotions and acted impulsively, it was easier to guess that the two deep down wanted to feel at peace and life a normal life like any other children of their age.

"But I don’t think cigarettes are filthy, they’re just dangerous for your health," she added, "If you want to do something filthy then I don’t think smoking is good."

He raised his eyebrows, "So you know what is filthy?"

"No!" She answered confidently, "But if you want to rebel I have a great idea!"

Though the delinquent was apprehensive of her idea, he was eventually swayed by her words. The same day, the two decided to hoodwink the delinquent’s driver who seemed to be waiting for him outside school by skipping class and escaping from school earlier than they were supposed to. The two young children weren’t poor by any sense. One was not loved by her family but she had enough pocket money to live three days without coming back home. Meanwhile, the young delinquent wasn’t someone who could try to worry about money as his credit card could buy the largest mansion in the richest street of the town with extras on the side.

The two weren’t concerned about money. They simply escaped the school and followed AiLin’s lead toward the bus station. She had carefully read the map on the station before riding the bus and though the bus driver gave them a quizzical look as to why the two left the school early, he didn’t ask as he the coming lunar new year celebration was around the corner and most students were allowed to leave school earlier the week before.

They both chose the seat at the end of the bus, staring at the window that was opened slightly while sitting beside each other, their shoulders brushed.

"Do you know that in the past that house was lived by a beautiful lady who eventually passed away and haunt the house?" AiLin started as she pointed to a house that the buss drove past by.

The young delinquent scoffed, "Ghosts? They aren’t real."

"They are real!" AiLin insisted, "I saw a ghost before so I can assure you they’re real."

Instead of fright in her eyes, AiLin looked happy as she spoke about ghosts which made the young delinquent to look at her with a slight frown, "Aren’t you scared of ghosts?"

"No," she answered mutely as she rested her chin on her arms which she propped against the window of the bus. Her head was slightly out of the window, her black hair scattering against the wind as they both eyed the empty street that drove them away from the adults of their lives.

"Humans are scarier than ghosts," the girl said and as her hair slipped from her shoulders, the young delinquent’s eyes widened as he found the finger marks that were bluish red around her neck, like an old scar that could never leave her skin.

As he was about to touch her skin in alarm, she turned to him, looking bubbly despite the numerous wounds that were hidden under her shirt and skirt.

She pointed her finger forward, "There! That’s our destination. The beach!"

The bus stopped to the nearest bus stop which was right beside a wide plan of white sands. The sky was bright in blue, the sun high up and the water as clear as they could peer into it and find the numerous seashells hidden beneath the washed up sands.

The young delinquent looked at the beautiful beach, unaware that their school wasn’t too far away from the beach. A sudden sense of relief greeted him as he looked at the beach as if he had just taken a breath of fresh air. Everything felt immensely beautiful as if the monochrome life he had been leading was finally colored again by AiLin’s simple gesture.

She then tugged his hand, pulling him toward the beach, "Let’s not stand around here. Look over there! We can make sand castles, collect the seashells, and run around the sands."

He felt his hands tugged again by her and then his heartstrings that were pulled upon seeing the bright smile that adorned AiLin’s face, though she lead a life more frightening than his, her smile was so blinding that he could feel something welling up from the bottom of his heart.
