Chapter 147: One Step Closer
Chapter 147: One Step Closer
With Mu Ke and Li JingYi’s eager attitude, AiLin couldn’t find it in herself to reject the offer. She began to answer after a thoughtful pause, "I’ll try."
"Yeah!" JingYi clapped his hands happily and began to jump around the place like a little puppy.
AiLin chuckled seeing the younger man being happier than herself in a decision that would benefit her more than him. Though she was what Mu Ke, the novelist, wanted, Li JingYi could have chosen someone else in her stead if she kept rejecting his offers. The fact that he doesn’t, explain that deep down his eagerness in having her act was because he simply wanted her to go after her dream.
Mu Ke was as happy as Li JingYi as they both clapped their hands together. His grey eyes then subtly moved toward where he felt AiLin was and curiously she was the one to start asking questions, "You told me that your friend was the one who had gave you the idea of the novel. Do you know how he came up with the storyline?"
Mu Ke who was glad to be asked questions about his novel answered clearly, "It seemed that he had seen someone who was similar as our main character. She had gone through a difficult life and each steps she took had always turned for the worse. My friend wanted her to be happy and hoped that this book could one day fall to her hands and for her to use it as a solace."
AiLin knew she wasn’t the "girl" in the story or the one whom Mu Ke’s friend want to help. Regardless she could feel herself in the girl’s position and felt somehow comforted by the idea that there was someone else in her position and how both of them had tried so hard to break their old life and reach a happier future.
She whispered, "I hope that book arrives to her hands."
"It did!" Mu Ke said excitedly. Though his milky eyes were too hazy to give out any sort of expression, it was almost glittery when he spoke about this. He marveled, "I heard from him that the girl really liked the book. It was part of the reason why I decided to agree in making this book into a movie. I hope that she would be able to watch it."
"I see," whispered AiLin and she melted her lips into a warm smile. "That sounds wonderful."
Suddenly as she was talking to Mu Ke, she caught a glare from the corner of her eyes. Subtly moving her face to the side, she noticed a girl who was covered in a black hoody and a running pants. Her face was covered with hat and a black face mask. The rest of the guests who had came to the book signing were mostly dressed in colorful dresses to show their appreciation to the book and to look presentable to the novelist who they were fond of. Yet this girl was covered in all black, her face was also oddly covered to the point that it must have been hard to look forward and find her own path while walking.
AiLin looked at the girl’s hands that were holding to a large vase filled with white flowers.
In a closer look, it was lilies. The flowers used for most funerals.
Frowning, she turned her eyes to look at Li JingYi who was talking to the director and writers, telling them to quickly prepare all the needed papers for her contract. Her eyes narrowed and she looked back at the girl who turned out to be stealing glances at Li JingYi from the side, her curious eyes weren’t filled with mere curiosity or admiration, it was rather a deep hateful glare.
She felt YanLan’s hands on her shoulders the next moment and he whispered to her, "I suspect that’s the stalker."
Knowing that it seems YanLan had also noticed the girl’s presence she nodded, "It would be best to apprehend her now. Let’s be careful so she doesn’t run away."
"I’ll take care of it but what makes me more worried is that vase," YanLan’s eyes narrowed, "Yes. That’s vase is oddly too big. The company does have a lot of metal detectors but I have a bad feeling of what could be hidden inside it."
"Like what?" AiLin was also worried. "Knife? Gun? Bomb?" She became worried as YanLan himself wasn’t sure of what could be inside. He made eye contact with Tsuki who was silently standing behind them, hearing everything and looking as concerned as the rest.
Tsuki then patted YanLan’s shoulders, "Let’s pretend that we don’t notice it yet. That stalker has been coming over twice or thrice following JingYi to the building, she must have used that chance to find an escape plan and we have to make sure to cut that path down."
Agreeing to Tsuki’s idea, YanLan nodded.
"How about this," AiLin said after a brief hum. She then called the two adult men to lean beside her and whisper out her plan. At first Tsuki was unconvinced but after hearing a while, his smile widened into a grin and he nodded mischievously.
"Great idea!"
YanLan chuckled as he walked beside Tsuki as the two returned to their original stance, pretending to have not notice the stalker in question. As they stood near each other, YanLan whispered, "I really wondered what kind of person would be suitable for Zi Chen. But now I can see someone who would match his personality so well."
Tsuki laughed, "You know what I think? I’’m pretty sure Miss AiLin has the Boss carefully wrapped around her pinky. Not only does Miss AiLin match the Boss. He’s unknowingly controlled by her."
"Love is wonderful isn’t it?" Chuckled YanLan in agreement. Seeing the stalker that was holding the heavy vase walking closer to the signing table, YanLan’s earlier bubbly personality turned into a sharp one as his brown eyes shifted into a stern gaze as he eyed the stalker carefully. "Well then. Let’s be careful."
AiLin watched from behind as Mu Ke signed the books of his fans. He seemed sincerely happy by every praises given to him and was genuine when he thanked all his fans. His smile was much more delighted than ever which made her feel happy. She was quite worried of how he had been protecting her image back in Highschool when everyone could have bullied him for it. He does come from a rich family but he wasn’t one of those children who had came from political families which could have made him an easy target of bullying back then.
The girl who had been helping Mu Ke slowly inched toward AiLin, her long ponytail hair slipped from her soldier as she tilt her body toward her, "I also watched your audition tape! It was amazing!"
"Thank you," Ailin answered sincerely, "I didn’t think it would be so well received."
"Of course it would! It was amazing, I can’t even say anything else other than amazing to show you how much I liked how you brought out all those emotions in one small scene!" The girl then recalled she hadn’t introduced herself and reached out her hand eagerly, "My name is Mu HanYi. Yes, I’m Mu Ke’s younger sister!"
"I see!" AiLin said with interest as she return the girl’s handshake. "I didn’t know that Mu Ke would have a sister." That would explain Mu Ke’s gentleness toward girls during high school as he would always think of his own younger sister when looking at the girls in trouble.
"Oh that’s true, hmm," Mu HanYi suddenly seemed complicated as she drew her eyebrows in a furrow while AiLin wondered if the girl had gotten a sudden stomachache. The girl continued, "I don’t think there’s anyone who doesn’t know about this," while rubbing her head.
"About?" Ailin was genuinely confused as Mu HanYi seemed taken aback that AiLin didn’t know about their relationship.
"Huh? You don’t know how Mu Ke and I aren’t actually blood related?"
AiLin blinked while shaking her head.
Interested and baffled, Mu HanYi giggled, "It’s not a secret for us but Mu Ke was adopted by my parents when he was still a baby. You know, I used to think that he wrote novels with his name as a way to help his birth parents to find him. At first, I hated him writing novels because of this but eventually I realized that he didn’t do this for them, he simply wanted everyone to know that Mu Family was the one who had allowed him to have the best life. When my parents hear about this, they cried!" She chuckled happily, "Oops, I might be telling you too much informations. But you know, you can’t keep quiet about your siblings’ success because it feels like a part of your had also succeeded! That’s what I’m feeling now."
"Mu Ke was adopted..." why does that feel oddly important in her head? AiLin softly pressed her forehead, wondering if she had forgotten another important informations.
"Yes, He’s been trying to find his family but during high school he stopped. Although it might sound selfish, I’m glad that he had stopped searching for them. Such family who abandoned a baby right after he was born because he was blind and imperfect is abhorrent!" Mu HanYi huffed, her love for her older brother was well known as she was the one who would type all her brother’s story into words, turning her eyes and fingers as an instrument to help Mu Ke. They were known to be so close that even My HanYi’s boyfriend always thought Mu Ke as his own older brother, treating him as close as siblings.
"Abandoned... as a baby.. blind..." AiLin’s eyes suddenly widened as she stared to Mu Ke’s back.
Back in high school she did remember Mu Ke asking her if she would know of someone in the school... someone important who he was searching for. When she asked why, he told her family reasons. He never dove deep into it but it seems the person he was searching for was actually his real brother from his birth family.
And that brother is...
HangZhou.
That fucker who had just told his men to threaten her into dropping all her case from OuYang!
